  1. Your family needs some new friends!
  2. My aunt is a heavy duty cook and packs her the Hitachi full. It's been working well for years.
  3. Hi folks, my renovation is ongoing and I have the chance to install an aircon in the living room before they do te falce ceiling etc. The previous owner swears the unit is cool enough and when it gets hot a fan will suffice, but I've got quite a high body temperature, got lots of gadgets and will be adding a projector. Aircon ledge can fit one more compresson, so I can just install a single unit. To do or not to do?
  4. Sharp! Love the space and the door handles. My last sharp fridge lasted for ages, so I bought a new one. Whatever you do, please try to go for Japanese, and European brands with Samsung being the exception. Try to avoid the american brands. I have bad experience with American fridges and so do my friends and relatives. It's a very general statement, but it holds true in my circle of friends.
  5. ha! i can play the bass and guitar, but suck at guitar hero, so i don't think it's the equipment being in sync Having said that, I can only recall playing guitar hero on Plasma and CRT TVs and they seemed fine. Can't comment on how it performs with LCD TVs .... I play my nintendo Wii with LCD and it seems in sync, but haven't tried guitar hero
  6. Hey all, I bought a Fujioh hob and hood yesterday and am quite pleased with the purchase. only thing is that I decided to go with the two burner hob instead of the three, because it's smaller and who uses three hobs anyway? Now I'm thinking that there might be occasions where i'll need three burners. I've only used three ones in my life when I was boiling something while cooking pasta and making the sauce at the same time, but other than that i've always used only two. Any input? We're getting a new worktop anyway, so if i get the bigger three burner at 880mm widthe the workers can do the changes. But the two burner is smaller and will give slightly more counterspace to work with in a smallish kitchen.
  7. Hmmm.... I know it might seem funny since I started a thread about LED TVs, but I still think Plasma's handle action and sports better. So if you're playing game consoles a third of the time with a lot of motion, plasma might still be the right choice. In the stores, they're always playing demo DVDs, which look great on every display, but when you watch actual DVDs, the picture on PLasmas seem sightly better to me. Nicer colours, brighter images and darker blacks. BUT, once they get bigger than 50", I somehow prefer the LEDs. Could just be me, so test yourself.... Then again, just to confuse you more, this guy is really happy with his LED TV http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sam...html?tag=txt;uo
  8. I think this article can explain much better than I can http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Benefits-of-...&id=1668599 How 100Hz originally worked A standard PAL television will refresh the picture 50 times per second or at a frequency of 50Hz. The Frames Per Second (FPS) are the quantity of frames needed to create the illusion of motion. Our eyes are often aware of this frequency depending on the speed of the image, the intensity of darkness, and the intensity of brightness accordingly you will on occasion notice the picture flicker on a 50Hz Television. Moreover the bigger the screen is the more apparent the flicker is. At 100 FPS (100Hz) TV operates at twice the Frames Per Second by creating a duplicate of every frame and inserting it after the previous one. On a 50 FPS (50Hz) Cathode Ray Television (CRT) because the picture is created by an charged particle scan there is a visible flicker that can be seen by the human eye. As a result of doubling the scan frequency to 100FPS and inserting a copy frame this problem is not apparent as far as the human eye is concerned. The result of this is to appreciably reduce the flicker. The benefit of 100Hz on Plasma and LCD TV's Plasma and LCD televisions don't have flickering because they don't generate the picture with an electron scan. However LCD and Plasma TVs still gain from 100 Herts because advanced digital circuitry creates an further frame or middle image. The Television does this by creating an further frame by means of complicated interpolation, as well as motion compensation calculations to calculate what the addition fields and frames look like, instead of inserting a copy frame. (e.g. the first and second frames are different). Nevertheless even at 100Hz the picture still does not produce a completely smooth picture especially with fast motion images. Several television manufactures attempt to reduce this further by using digital picture processing. Typically there is still a little blurring on quick moving images although the advantages are clearer and better-defined surfaces, smoother movement, and sharper pictures than is possible from 50 Frames Per Second LCD TVs and PlasmaTVs. For example if a football moves ten pixels from left to right between frames one, two and three, the 100Hz television will digitally make two added frames between one and two, along with two and three, in which the ball will move five pixels. This results in five frames in which the football moves a total of ten pixels i.e. the initial frames one, two and three plus the digitally created frames inserted between one and two, and in between two and three. The effect of this is that the eye sees an image that moves more smoothly than previously. The advantage is that 100Hz televisions have a clear benefit of ending the majority ghosting effects now and then seen in LCD TVs. The ghosting effect caused by the subsequent image being displayed before the preceding one has faded away. Most top manufacturers have got 100Hz Plasma and LCD televisions including JVC, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips,Hitachi and Pioneer. Further advantages with 200Hz A range of 200 hertz televisions have been produced by Sony which digitally inserts three additional frames in between the original 50Hz frames. Thus rapidly moving scenes are seen with a smoother, more fluid and sharper picture than 50Hz or even 100 hertz televisions.
  9. Hi, I'm looking myself and decided to go with something more expensive, but made in Germany. Low stock, so I had to hunt for it, but mnaged to find it and am going to buy it tomorrow. Some more got 0% installment, so quite happy. On your budget, i'd go for the Brandt FE611XS1. made in France, but it's 15 Amp, so you might have to get an electrician to do some work. http://www.rinaelectrical.com.sg/product_t...randt&bId=3
  10. Hi there, I thought I'd start a new thread on LED TVs, eventhough they are technically LCD TVs using LED lighting technology. There seems to be some confusion in the market and salesmen at the big electronic shops are marketing it as a different kettle of fish. Even Korean electronics giant, Samsung, is marketing these TVs as LED TVs and not LCD TVs. There are two broad categories of LED TVs. Back-lit and Edge-lit. Simply-speaking, Back-lit TVs can deliver blacker black colours by selectively turning off desired areas of the screen whereas edge-lit LED TVs can be built slimmer, because the diodes are on the side of the TV. Having said that, edge-lit LED TVs are already a lot better than current (conventional CCFL) LCD TVs and a comparison at any store will probably convince most to take the leap and upgrade. Just be mindful to check refresh rates and the number of HDMI inputs the model you're interested in has. Hope this was helpful and please share any news on this techology. oh yeah...and happy shopping
  11. Man, I'm so glad I found out about this. Will talk to my ID about the ceiling plan tomorrow, but I suspect that if I want to stay in budget, we have to continue as planned. Anyway, if they do the trunking nicely, you don't really notice it.
  12. He made his buying decision based on false information supplied by a sales rep from the shop. He could have done more research prio to buying, but he probably wouldn't have bought had the salesman not lied about the latex top.
  13. This mde me laugh and is the most sensible post on this thread!
  14. Dude... I've been living in the same flat for 15years. I only just recently got married and renovation works started yesterday. I went from broke - working in an MNC to doing very well (but stressed) as a salesman, to stable but no career as a musician and now am doing well with a career at another MNC. The only thing that has changed? My thoughts, my outlook and my actions. Not the arrangement of my furniture. I don't mean to be offensive, but honestly, you should empower yourself more. If you need to change things around, your thoughts have to be correct and then you have to put them into action.... not check if the mattress is at the right angle. You have more power over your life than you think.
  15. I used to work in retail. If a customer comes into the shop and makes enough noise, my boss usually wanted him out instead of ruining further business. With the transaction code on the credit card receipt they should be able to do an immediate refund. If you don't go back yourself, it will really take much longer for the card company and the bank to process.
  16. Like zhiz says, at the price there probably isn't any latex. I only started shopping for mattresses recently and am no expert, but at that price you usually only get the springs, foam and quilt. Maybe he'll try to save himself, by saying there's some latex in the foam? Think the sales guy tried to pull a fast one o you. I would like to add though, that if you liked the mattress and it felt good, why not just leave it be?
  17. Hi, can fellow renotakers recommend cheap, but fashionable blinds / curtain retailers to me please? Thanks!
  18. wow.... that's 9 hours of shipping?! I wish I had the legs for that. Love to compare products? Did you end up buying? I've been to a few of the "cheaper" furniture retailers before checking out IFC. My take on furniture is that you can find the same design in different prices, but workmanship and materials are almost always relative to the price tag. I'm a pretty big guy so I can tell if a sofa, bedframe or mattress is up to par. When I went to IFC i told myself I would walk back and check out all the other outlets. In the end, I found exactly what I liked there and knew from the previous weekends of window-shopping that the likelihood of me finding something as comfortable at much cheaper was unlikely...
  19. Differet strokes for different folks, I guess, But it doesn't seem fun to "settle"? I can understand the attraction of a package deal, but only if you like the stuff. If you think "it's just ok", why settle? Just shop around a bit and maybe a bit more money you will find the things you really like. Anyway, I'm kind of envious that there are homeowners out there who like the stuff in the packaged deals, I know my life would be easier if i did. and I wouldn't need to spend hours trying out different products.... but that's me. I need to know when I buy that I really like the product and have compared it to other products of different price categories. Different strokes, for different folks..
  20. Since Rafa has taken over, the score is 7wins 3draws 4 losses in favour of United. Form is temporary, class is permanent Let's wait till the match at OT. Owen to score against his former team...
  21. YNWA = You'll Never Win Anything! . . . . . . . .
  22. Hey man, don't bother going shopping with an ID or contractor you haven't decided to engage yet. I got 5 different quotes and settled on the ID we felt most comfortable with (unfortunately she was the most expensive ;-) ) But she wasn't too far off the rest and we really clicked with her. Anyway, check out this page: http://www.homestudiodesignassociates.com/...les/Page739.htm I didn't get them to do my reno, but it's just interesting that there packaged out there where they "kau tiem" (am only half chinese so selling should be wrong) everything and even give you a mitsubishi system 3. Have a look at this quote. It seems pretty comprehensive. Just add on what else you need, send it off to the IDs you feel comfortable with and aren't sharks. 23. Hi guys n gals, thanks for the feedback on the sofa. Usually I hang out on football forums, where a different view usually leads o flaming and unreasonable criticism etc, so it's nice to be able to discuss in a civilized manner. My idea of a great sofa or couch basically stems from my 6-7 year old Lorenzo. My sister and I hunted sofas for weeks back then and the moment we sat down on our current sofa we knew we had found "it". 3+2+1 cost us 2.8k, but we couldn't say no. Till today we get comments from visitors that it's the most comfortable sofa they've ever sat on. Dunno how many friends have fallen asleep on it... Anyway....I went hunting for a sofa last weekend with my wife and to my disappointment Lorenzo doesn't rock nearly as much as they used to. We checked out Cellini and of course I had to try the Calypso after seeing it repeatedly here, but it just didn't pass my comfort test. Have to admit it is an eye-catcher though. Sure would get some nice remarks when visitors are over. About the Cellini packages - they are tempting, but in the end I realized you will get good stuff, but it's not your ideal stuff. As in, the mattress is good, but you actually wanted the slumberland or king koil. the bed frame is nice, but you actually like the teak wood one you saw in the other shop much more...etc etc.. to each their own I suppose. they have god service though and I'd recommend that shop to any new home-owners
