  1. the whole 1st floor of my house is using cement flooring. any good tips from anybody with polished cement flooring?i need to smooth it out. i would appreciate it if anybody can tell me how i should go about getting my floor smooth and lacquered. most importantly is the quotation. thks a million :D

    Congrats for choosing concrete floor.

You basically have 4 options to seal your floor, I'll put it layman.

1 is to seal with quicseal 104, polished finishing.

2 is to seal with quicseal 107, matt finishing.

3 is to seal with epoxy, whatever desired colour and finshing.

4 is to seal and stain with desired colour.

Do a quick search on each of these to weigh their pros and cons.

Personally, I would choose epoxy(transparent matt) for industrial and high traffic conditions.

Experienced contractor would lay concrete and let it dry for at least 7 days, buff and apply epoxy on cleaned concrete.

If below 7 days, water may condense between floor and epoxy, which will allow epoxy to peel like your face mask.

Or quicseal 104 for your preferred smooth polished surface.

Ask your contractor for the price differences for all of the above too.

    Have fun!

  2. hey duckie

thanks for the lead. Can I kaypoh and ask why you had chosen this kind over the the more popular choice of stove and built-in-cabinet oven? Is the ariston stove ok for wok cookng?

    thanks so much!

    I'm into industrial style.

Haven't tried the cooker, but at it's price, it looks excellent.

  3. Hi saw this kind of free standing oven/stove (stove on top, oven below) in the ariston catalogue, but find that it's not popular nor commonly found here. Does anyone use this? Any reviews?

Always see this in kitchen designs from australia or the west, and wonder why not here?

And where can I find them, please?

    thanks

Hi, good to see a someone who share the same taste.

Ariston has 2 models available in Mayer.

Elba has more selections available in Best Denki.

Rina Electrical has more expensive ones, located at Shaw Centre.

Turbo has alot, available almost everywhere, but I find that it looks cheapo.

So now, I've chosen Ariston ($1299) from Mayer, should be ordering sometime next week or so.

    Good luck in finding yours.

  4. Am thinking of doing cement screeding for the whole flat's flooring (incl kitchen and bathroom).

can those who have done cement screed floor share if it's slippery when wet (esp toilet)? I don't want my parents to slip and fall.

Having cement screeding will also do away with grout lines on the floor (which I hate!) Spray painting is an option, but it's not cheap.

    Cement screed is not slippery.

However, the waterproofing epoxy is slippery.

Just talked to my contractor, he says he'll source for an epoxy that is matt and non-slippery.

    Will keep you informed.

  5. Now I see mainly European brands carry free standing cooker. Maybe you can try Rina Electrical? They have brands like Gaggenau, Miele, De Detrich and so on. They have a showroom.

    Excellent recommendation.

I seriously thought that Ariston was my only choice.

    Thanks a million!

  6. Till today, I only found 1 brand carrying free standing cooker, which is Ariston priced at $1300(Mayer).

Price is reasonable, but would prefer to have more choices.

I've seen Indesit, Brandt and many others online, but to no avail in Singapore.

Anyone has any ideas where I can find more?

    Thank you!

  7. Excellent choice of flooring, lynnzlq.

Cracks has its beauty as well, but the only risk is prolonged seepage, which I believe can be fixed by diy kits.

I'm going to do cement screed as well.

    I love the industrial look.

Can I PM you if I need advice when I start working on mine?

  8. Hey guys,

I'm also thinking to do concrete screed flooring for my entire house (living, kitchen and 2 bedrooms). I think there's more houses with these types of floorings being featured in magazines like Square Rooms... Let me check and see..

Home & Decor January issue has samples, but not Square Rooms this month don't have any.

I've checked with contractors, there's mainly 2 types of finishing, "glossy" and stained.

It's also cheaper than any tiles, and does not need any skirting.

  9. Hi, I would like to knock down a HDB bed room's wall to make the living room bigger.

    a) I understand that I need to apply through HDB, but what are the chances?

    b) Will it affect the valuation if I decide to sell in future?

    c) Is it possible to rebuilt the wall conforming to HDB standards? If yes, how much roughly?

    Thank you!

  10. Some call it poured concrete, some call it concrete screed.

    a) So what's the difference?

I'm hoping to achieve a smooth and matt look.

    b) What are the important tips for a successful concrete flooring.

    c) What is the sealant/finishing that is required to waterproof the floor?

    d) What are the pros and cons of concrete flooring?

I'm buying a 3 room flat and would like to do concrete flooring for the living room and bed rooms.

    I need your advice.

    Thank you!

Here is an example of what I'm looking for.
