Hi Defelio, Welcome to RT! Really nice 3Ds you have there! We have the same TV!! Mine is 46" and wall-mounted on the TV console feature - was just wondering if there's going to be a problem if I don't use the stand/soundbar that comes with it?? I've seen some people mount it with the stand and it looks awful. Also lusted over the Noguchi coffee table but ended up with something really cookie-cutter instead. Practicality won over as I hate the sight of clutter and want somewhere I can place all the various remote controls. Really nice pieces you've picked - can't wait to see your purchases! Also, LURVE that sofa - how unconventional! I'm currently hating my sofa atm but shall not comment further - it only irks the perfectionist in me to no end. The pods look fantastic! How is their performance? We got floorstanding ones so expect a lot of clutter and not much eye-candy~ Btw, I love the chair in white Not so practical (oops grubby hands) but it looks GREAT! - Ely

No worries, Lady R. What's done is done. Sigh, should have done more homework maybe? Dunno. It's an ugly straight one too! Ugh. We don't cook that much either...>< Because of the placement, we couldn't choose a chimmney hood and was actually going to do without a hood at all, then decided to have one just in case. It's mounted behind glass so didn't have a choice in picking an island hood. Was such a reluctant purchase. - Ely

Got a pretty good deal for the curtains/blinds - my floor length day/night curtains in the living room (about 5m) is only $700 with installation. Wallpaper is $525 per featured wall. Rice cooker is a joke at $21! Only a few essential kitchen items left, then I'm off to DIY - going to do my own art for the bedrooms/framed pictures, and embellishments to current furnishings. Will probably also call friends78' contact for the storeroom shelves. Glass delivered for my swing doors are now transculent-frosted - which means exhibitionistic bathrooms like May Dreams! Except mine also includes the common bathroom! AHHHH! Now have to find some laminates of some sort, or glass art (which is pricey, I checked DNA's website). -Ely

Ooh, you've started your blog Welcome! Looking forward to your updates -Ely

Yep, that is why we went with the cheapest at HN even though I didn't like the look of it. Because it was all around that $2k mark even at Hoe Kee! So, I assumed the prices were all the same. D.A.R.N, you should have shared the hood purchase earlier!! So much savings My hob is about $500, so total damage is almost $2.7k!! SIGH. My bill from HN alone is $13k+ (hob, hood, washer, dryer, 2 TVs, oven, fridge, vacuum cleaner, wine chiller - apart from the 46" tv, the hood is the most expensive) - very heart pain -Ely

Easy to see how it's my favourite place eh? Gorgeous sunset, a glass of Rose, John Coltrane playing, Bondi at my feet, Maxey on my lap, my husband's arm around me, scented candle votives - mmMMmm. Now THAT'S what I call home If only we can get the unneutered Cocker upstairs to stop barking everytime I'm out there >< - Ely

We were told at HN that all island hoods were the same price. We picked the cheapest actually~ And it's not a nice curved glass one -Ely

LOVE your kitchen, and ALL that storage space! A hoarder's fantasy! I got an island hood too, but not as pretty as yours. Mine is a Bosch that was $2k+ *cringe* Had no choice between island/chimmney hoods so am really hating that purchase. Seems like it was too expensive, I would have gotten yours instead Congrats on moving in! I feel like I'm the last - Ely

Now for something light-hearted after all that money talk My Big Buffa Boy! Very rarely do you see his mouth open, he hardly ever speaks, and when he does, it comes out like some strangled chicken high-pitched mew. So in all seriousness, probably not the most sensitive picture as cats don't pant like dogs do - it probably means he was overheated or over-stressed when the pic was taken (Mom took him out to a family gathering to show him off~). - Ely

Same for us - our apartment is 25yrs old in original condition so everything needs to be done. Our reno is quickly adding up to meet yours though! However, we have only 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms - added a kitchen, hacked planter boxes/false walls, retiled everything except for grinding/polishing/re-colouring parquet for bedrooms, wallpapering feature walls in bedrooms, lots of carpentry (9 doors of wardrobes and cabinets for both dry/wet kitchens/bathroom's vanity tops, linen sink), replacement of all windows/grills/doors/balcony sliding, roof extension, painting and ceiling works. Don't be so discouraged though I honestly know how you feel. It feels like a never-ending abyss into which we're plunging It just keeps adding up, and it's very stressful (been falling sick, not sleeping well, and money problems are never easy for a relationship). Breathe through it, JCase, and hopefully when we get the home we want, we'd feel we've done the right thing by being so ambitious - Ely

Actually the basic Grohe like Talis and Focus sets that are on sale are on par with the stainless steel/chrome ones we got from Poh Joo after adding everything up. We couldn't do with the Grohe rainshower as the one we were eyeing was a whooping 3k! Managed to get a similiar-sized one at PJ for $450. Those entry sets would have done very well with our common bathroom, but we saw it too late and felt like slapping ourselves for being so impulsive and for not doing our homework thoroughly. Only realised how close the prices were when we came home and calculated everything - everything seemed so much cheaper when you buy them "a la carte" at the various sanitary stores (and we got from several). I know what you mean about the auto-mode packing/unpacking. It used to be like that for me when I was a nomad student in Australia - I changed suburbs every 6 months just for a different "feel" - loved the cafe culture and quirky shops, loved being smack in the city in a warehouse loft, loved being completely suburban in a residential estate, loved living by a beautiful beach, loved being by the river etc. I digress For a nice tour of Hansgrohe/Miele/Grohe/De Dietrich stuff, head to Interior Affairs at Tai Seng. Gorgeous inspiring showroom that is fairly large. Even if you're not buying, you get a better sense of what you'd like. Everything showcased works, so try the ovens, taps, everything! It was a fun place for us. Think of it as a very expensive, exclusive Ikea - Ely

Ooh landed! Nice upgrade! First time for us to be living in an apartment! It's sort of strange when I'd have to tone down the music or get annoyed with the neighbour's dog's barking. I'm simply very used to the sound of traffic and not much else. Parents will be undergoing some A&A so we can still swap some ideas and suggestions! Good luck in finding *that* home, and do post pics! I just simply can't imagine going through this yearly. By the time I've added in the final touches and *really* settled in, I find myself doing the circuit of house-hunting again? /slit wrist Such a daunting thought but you sound so excited it's hard not to get infected! - Ely

No worries, Adidaem, I do enjoy the discussion but your consideration is very thoughtful Hope you find some nice floor-traps! I didn't even bother to Deh - I fear I have great limitations in that area. Couldn't Deh the granite top worker despite all efforts~ And now, more re-hacking and redoing of carpentry and electrical work as some miscalculations were made. At least our curtains/blinds guy came through - installed the tracks really nicely today, and bubble-wrapped them with such consideration. We may now have to delay our moving in - SIGH. Very disappointing. If memory serves me, I think I projected an end-April moving date? Everything just whirls pass me and I no longer can remember. The Husband is getting really irritated, and thinks it's our easy going attitude that has gotten us into this fix. We could have been more demanding, more pressurising, etc, he laments. It's our third application to the MCST to get our permit renewed and it's getting awfully embarassing. TVs to be mounted on Thursday, acid wash on Friday, HTS to be installed Monday. Despite us not being superstitious, parents secretly checked the date 14 May to see if it's favourable, and apparently it is, so we're going to go through the motions like turning on the stove etc on Saturday regardless (which would be DAY 81 btw). How long do "normal" renovations take? Surely not as long? -Ely

Wow, JCase. Sounds like quite a bit to me with no hacking or flooring. I agree - our budget expanded because we kept making decisions based on a permanent perspective - we don't want to redo anything during our occupation, just to live in it for 10yrs then move somewhere else. So we need a decor and space that would appeal and serve our needs for 10yrs. Quite a long haul if you ask me. -Ely

Nice colourful 3Ds, love the cheery look you're going after, and the relaxing modern-resort feel in the Master bedroom. I know how you feel about choosing laminates, and I'm guessing yours is much tougher since you're playing with colours and textures. You literally feel your head hurting and you wonder why choosing something simple, like different shades of white paint, can be so life-challenging! Tiles, for me, were honestly much harder since I didn't have a 3D to follow - it was actually the other way around, the 3Ds had to accommodate my choices, and none were depicted I only saw what it looked like in real life after it was all tiled. Thankfully, not too disastrous. Keep the asprin handy - Ely

Hi Adidam, Thanks! Great to hear from you - do start your blog as I'm certain many of us still lurking despite having finished our renovations are still curious about others' homes. No one can resist before/after pics! Wow, more than a 100k? What luxuries have you splurged on! Can't wait to see YOUR purchases Perhaps, you'd even de-throne me! -Ely

Hi Patsy, thanks for dropping by Things were bought rather impulsively, and it's going to be a miracle if they all work well together. Well, we'll see Regardless, I think I'll still love it as it's a place we can truly call our own. Will definitely need to make some alterations for the final layout but not planning to change of the purchases I now regret (sorta...). Wow, another move in a year? Where would you be now? How do you deal with a reno process every year? This one alone is killing me - or do you just get better and better at it? Trying a different look this time? Keep us dated, I'm sure we'd all appreciate reading an experienced t-blog. No learning from mistakes like most of us are. - Ely

I think it's what's leading to my demise! The 3Ds rendered were completely redundant, save for laminate choices, as they were all so wrongly scaled and inaccurate. Definitely easier to follow 3Ds to ensure you get what you planned, especially for space-planning. I'm simply following whatever's in my head. Even my floorplan is largely inaccurate! Made some misjudgements regarding foyer cabinet's height, size of sofa and living room configuration, and did not expect the TV console in the bedroom to be so thick. It simply swivels so I can work out next to a mirrored-cabinet - right form ftw! Also good to see yourself throwing punches and looking fit. (Haven't worked out in a looooooong time, always too tired or sick nowadays to convince myself to do one. Might have to force myself to kick start it again if I want to squeeze into my first fitting this month~ Bleh.) Show us your 3Ds when you get them k? - Ely
