  1. Well done Publiclife! U have created a niche (and interesting) thread. I'm a fan. U could consider coming out a book about HDB floorplans and their story behind the design. The Good The Bad and The Fugly... For the "slice of pizza" floor plan, theres a round block between Chinese Garden and Jurong East. Can be seen while taking MRT. Suspect thats the one. Anyway have fun! Cheers!
  2. No worries Jon. The brick wall feature is commonly found in magazines n other blogs. We adapt from others too! One thing to take note though, make sure the person doing is skilled and experienced. To be honest we're not really satisfied with ours. So watch out!
  3. Our bombshelter is fully concealed now! Before After
  4. Thanks Jon. We're keeping our fingers crossed too!
  5. Big hello to u too neighbour! We definitely will put coasters everywhere cos dun think any surface is able to withstand high heat..
  6. Our feature wall in the living room is done! We did this to conceal one of the openings of the bomb shelter (we have 2 openings! ) Before After Also for us to leave our keys and other display items here.
  7. Ceiling fan is up! Brick wall is painted once. WTB wants to paint a few more layers but i think it will look the same even after more painting. What do you think? Before After
  8. Is your mirror from IKEA? we intend to buy one of this too! Simple and beautiful
  9. Its tough deciding which KITCHEN COUNTER TOP to choose when we both like Quartz stone so much. And quartz are usually more expensive than other solid colored top. We shortlisted Caesarstone and Silestone but narrowed down to Caesearstone because of its design (which matches our dinning table). Shelly the sales staff who attended to us was really friendly and helpful. But because the price was kinda steep (about 1k diff to granite) we put them to KIV and went on to search for other cheaper and good top. (Maybe next time ... ) Our contractor recommended us LG top and according to a good friend of ours who used this LG top for 3yrs now, there is no obvious decolouration, whatsoever... And it comes with a 10 years warranty! So we ended up choosing this! Hopefully it will be durable because we forsee a busy kitchen next time!
  10. Focal Little Bird 2.1 for living room area Hi I'm looking at this sound system too. Have you tested them out? Issit good? Where is the store?
  11. my WIW Thats a nice WIW. Wouldn't your eyes feel painful looking at such a RED shelve?
  12. We thought we should give credit to this air-con service provider we engaged for our new house. In this case, we signed up with ALL BEST rather than Gain City which is very popular for air-con. And we thought we made the right decision. The workers who came were very professional and experienced. They know immediately what we want (which is to make the trunking as less visible as possible of course) and they proposed several good ideas which we were thankful (because our ideas are not really workable..) They set up in a way that we can easily request our contractor to box up the trunking (above) if we want to. But we chose not to because we are personally fine with it. And adding on to the already low-lying beam is not gona help much.
  13. Darker laminated flooring are easier to maintain (according to their sales) but becos our theme is white so we have to choose lighter colors (but not too light like the one you're having.. scared of dirt trap). Not sure about darker floor tiles cos the one at my parent's house is stained with chemical wash and its pretty obvious!!
  14. We just came back from COMEX and its a tedious journey indeed. We never like to go to such show unless there is something we wana get. And this time, we went there hoping to get TV for our new house at a bargain. We ended up with a 40"LED Samsung TV + Blue ray player + HDMI cable at $999. Not sure if this is the best deal but is good enough for us. We did some research at Harvey Norman before going to COMEX because we were quite blur about whats the market price for TVs now. Our plan is only to buy a Samsung LED TV, not 3D, not Smart TV, not really other brands (unless its alot cheaper cos we always take Samsung as the leader of TVs), free blue-ray player (so that we don't have to buy separately) and budget in mind would be <$1000. LG had a similar deal at the show; 40" Smart 3D TV and other freebies including camera at $999. We thought all the freebies are pretty irrelevant and we skipped LG. To all who is going down tomorrow or in future shows, one thing to note is never submit to pressure. Those "hourly special" are not really that cheap. Always do some market price homework. And do factor in the cost of pulling and dragging your big TV around the bad crowd. All these might not add up to your savings!
  15. Hi Jon Checked with the contractor and the supplier of these brick tiles is actually Hafary. They do have a great range of tiles for you to choose from. Hope this helps.
  16. Here are some initial drawings for our carpentry (which are half way through now...) Those 3D drawings are provided by the contractor (was pleasantly surprised to see 3D drawings) We have DRY and WET kitchen here. Dry area includes the fridge and a wine chiller. Wet area includes all others. Kitchen door is put in between these 2 area. Master toliet vanity shelve hand written by the contractor himself on the spot(below). This is our initial plan for our bed. But considering the Fengshui aspect (which is not good to sleep facing the door), we changed our plan (drawn by myself) We pushed the bed all the way in.... Feel free to provide any thoughts about the carpentry work. ie. anything in particular to take note? cheers
  17. Here is our chosen one: And the results are absolutely satisfactory!
  18. Another entry I wana make tonight is the choice and outcome of our FLOOR LAMINATE. Here are the initial shortlisted: WTB likes this (below) but we thought the design was old and commonly used. We initially wanted to go with this one. But after taking a far away shot (below), we thought it look kinda "dirty". So we changed our mind. The thing we learnt about floor laminate is that they "pop" easily when in contact with water for a long time, so we have to be extra careful with cleaning. (something to really take note of considering that we've never live in a house with laminate flooring before) And the next thing to keep in mind is dirt are easily trapped in between the laminates over time. The dirt lines will look even more obvious if you've chosen light colored ones. So.. taking all the above considerations, we made our choice!
  19. So here it is... Another layer of backing to even out the surface for proper laying of the bricks. And this is the final one: U probably don't see much diff with the previous one but we thought... why not do it again since we are not happy with the results?!
  20. This will be a BRICK WALL entry tonight. Those who have followed the forum and home decor magazines are no strangers to the brick wall. And we think it makes an attractive feature wall to our living room. There was a "slump" in the lower middle portion of the wall if you notice. Contractor says its due to the uneven backing. We thought brick wall should look solid and we got the contractor to rectify.
  21. Line TV Console Aiming to get this TV console. Saw this while walking around Park Mall. Comes in 90, 120 and 180cm length. One of the sleekest and more function console around. Much nicer than Air's IMHO.
  22. Downlight not really up, but the holes are there. Concealed optical fibre uPVC conduit, stretching from TV wall to foyer area.
