  1. sorry, I have not checked this thread for a while. To reply some of your queries...

Makanology: Oops, I am sure your reno is already over but feel free to PM me if you have any questions still!

Zionbrenda: I spent S$30k exactly for my reno. My contractor and carpenter are 2 different people but the carpenter is part of my contractor, Alan's team. If you still don't have his contact, let me know and I will PM you.

    MHB: S$30k

Drunkenchivas/BabyAudrey/Gis/Soulity/Ime/Braceskisses: Let me know if you still need his contact I will PM you.BabyAudrey, huge mirror is $150.

Berrycherry: yes it does affect the windflow, I can still feel the wind though. If you want proper windflow, there must be sufficient distance between the fan and the ceiling. Thank you for your kind comments :)

Pills: Wooden Box can be bought from ArtFriend.

  2. Hi, I am now doing up my kitchen now and I had chosen the same kind of stainless steel finish laminate as you however the carpenter advise us that there may be oil stain that will be difficult to clean off. Could you advise me base on your experience with the material and how heavy is your cooking? Also how do you maintain it, will it scratches easily? Thanks and much appreciated for any information.

i got no problem with the oil stains on the laminate. Its the same laminate as what everybody is using. The only difference is the colour.

Maybe u are refering to the cooking area backing? I used real stainless steel backing. This one need to be proper to last the years. I do cooking once a week and use very little oil. I have been living in for a year already and the laminate still looks shiny n fine.

As for your worries about the scratches.... if i take a knife/key/scissors and scratch it then of course it will scratch. I have knocked chairs against it and so far its alright. There wont really be many scratches to the laminate cupboards; there will be more to worry for your solid surface top.

  3. Hi XTR,

impress with the DIY work of yours, i sure won't have the time and idea to do this... i have the same floor plan as your flat and you have given me some idea for my kitchen. But a few questions:

    1. do you have a floor plan of the new layout? where is your dining area?

    2. what paint do you use for the toilet area? was it waterproof? i can see they are just paint, but wouldn't gets moldy after a while?

    hello hello,

    1. I dont have floor plan of new layout. my dining area is beside the main entrance.

hope you can see where it is with the 2 pics below.

    2. I used ICI weathershield. You need to tell the contractor to put primer as first layer to seal it. So far no mould. Just have an issue whereby it does become yellowish. Everyweek i will use CIF and scrub and wash. So far, I touched up and re-painted my toilet twice in a year to maintain that white. I love my white toilet wall but its hard to maintain. I will advise you to put tiles or use darker colour paints like white-grey because its less troublesome.

  4. Hi XTR, really nice house you have there! Like to check on where you bought the motor and control..whole system from?

    Thanks a lot!

hello... thanks! i bought off ebay. you do a search..motorized remote roller blinds!

Hi there, I read through all 16 pages of your t-blog at one go, really love the theme/furniture and home accessories choice. And your DIY brick wall is amazing! XD

I have not renovated house before, so not very sure how it works. If I have some ideas in mind, roughly sketch out for contractor, is that ok? Do I need to be very specific in details eg where I want lights, dimension of kitchen cabinet etc? Or would your contractor give advice as well?

Possible to PM me your contractor's contact? Tried to pm you but was not able to do so.

    Thanks so much!

Yes, u can sketch out for your contractor but it has to be really clear and detailed in case he build up some parts of the home not to your liking. The lights and dimensions will be discussed with him. He will give his input where its best to put the lights and the dimensions. I am sure all the contractors u get nowadays will surely give their input. They will want to make sure they do a job to your liking. Sorry i was away...pm me and i will pm u the details. I just deleted some msgs.

    Hi,

Starting reno soon and is also doing an grey cum white theme for the kitchen.

Are you able to capture a closed up view of the kitchen cabinet under normal daylight condition ?

Which brand of laminate did your contractor used. ? Can share the laminate code and name ? Is it glossy ot matte finished ?

    Thanks very much.

    Regards,

hi, I cant rem what laminate he used. Its really a laminate that is from a standard laminate. I met up with a few contractors and all also almost use that laminate book. I used metallic silver matte. Under normal daylight conditions, it will be give a brushed matte silver look.
