Contractor You must have the time to supervise their work and progress. Coordination has to be done by yourself as well. Cost is definitely cheaper than going with an ID. ID Propose you with designs. Coordination and supervision of work will done by themselves. Cost is about 20% mark up from the costs that they got from their respective contractors. Unless you have the time, and also already have a design in mind, then you can go ahead with contractors. If not, then I would suggest to go with an ID. Some money just can't be saved actually, but it really depends on yourself on what you are really looking for. Hope this helps.

Haulage Of Sand And Debris Charges S$1600?
luckycoin replied to sooriuni's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Wa ... Ask your ID to go fly kite la ... Out to kill ... Which ID firm quoted you this? -
I feel that the painting of whole house is a little bit overcharge. Perhaps you can try to nego with your contractor and bring it down to 1300, which is the market price. The rest of the items look quite reasonable IMO.

All I can say is ... Beware of hidden costs ...

Hi, It would be best if you could shortlist a few and invite them for onsite measurement for a more accurate quote. Compare the quotations you received and make your choice from there. Prices and quotations apart, workmanship and quality speaks a large part in your renovation too. You can try contacting Susan of Urban Design located at Joo Chiat. Not pushy type and responsible, and most importantly, the price is reasonable. We had a good renovating experience with this ID. As I did not get any permission from her to share her contact openly, you may want to do a search via google or yahoo and look for Urban Design's contact, call them up and look for Susan.

Fully agree with alan26. Gotta get your measurement 1st, as well as to decide what type of materials that you want for your Kitchen table-top. The rate that I got for solid sruface table-top was S$70 per foot run, which I think its 1 of the best rate if we compare against what alan26 had provided. Cabinet wise, I'm not sure if this rate is good, but I was quoted S$1,450 for 14 ft, so per foot run is around S$ 103. Hope this helps. =)

Suspender, Seems like you're suspecting that these people, who are just trying to help by introducing good and reliable ID / contractor, are actually ID / contractor themselves? haha ... Jhwl, My 2 cents worth of recommendation would be Susan Loy of Urban Design. This lady is helpful and very customer-driven, rather than sales-driven. Not pushy type, and always listen to customer's needs and make sensible, good recommendation. Pricing wise, I would say that it's reasonable. Do a search on Urban Design's website and look for their numbers, then call them and ask for Susan Loy, if you're interested. I will not be able to provide her contact to you, as I did not get her permission to do so. For a start, maybe you can shortlist a list of, say 5 IDs, get the quotations from them and then compare. However, cheap things come a great deal of sacrifice (Eg: Quality / Worksmanship) being compromise. Also, do be extra careful and look through the quotation thoroughly before putting your signature on the dotted line. All the best to your renovation ...

Btw, will you mind sharing with us the ID Firm / contractor that had done such a thing on you? This is so that others can avoid engaging such an unethical ID Firm / contractor. Thanks a bunch mate ... -

Hello, Check on the T&C behind or below the contract / quotation that you've signed. If the piece of paper did not mention that "Deposits placed are non-refundable", then maybe you will have a case. If it is stated clearly, then you may not have it, becox I would assume that you signed the contract under normal circumstances (eg: under no undue influence, not drunk, and whatsoever). Last question, you mentioned that the quote ramped beyond your budget. Did they revise the quote. If they have revised it, you're not oblige to accept the new quote, and rely on the old quote that you had signed initially. My 2 cents worth. Good luck ... =) -
Hello Fellow Forumers, We are deciding whether to go for partition or solid wall. Measurement is about 7 by 9 ft. Anyone out there who had done partition or solid wall before, can you guys please give us an idea of how much its gonna cost? Thanks!!
