  1. Hey sleek, nah no wet blanket, don't worry. We are just hoping for the best! Spoke to the carpenter myself today and he said he will try to rush it out within the 2 weeks. *fingers crossed* He didn't gasp and say, "Cannot lah! Siao..." So i'm quite thankful for that. We are not doing the wardrobes for all the bedrooms with him, so hopefully that alleviates his load a lil
  2. Thanks, eden! Meeting electrician and plumber this week. All will be done by this weekend Plasterboards and ceiling people will be coming next week. Wardrobe people also next week. If all goes according to schedule, we might.. *fingers crossed* might just make it in time for move-in!
  3. I guess it's important for them to respond to calls if they don't go up as often. Seems quite difficult to get them to go up every other day too. One of the sub-contractors working on my place told me that the ID trusts them therefore doesn't go up everyday.
  4. PLASTERING UPDATE I love this shot of the entrance to our 3 rooms. So white! The dining area also plastered. This nice plastered effect comes with lotsa work! They scrape and smear and scrape and smear and splash water and smear and scrape.. gosh... I lost count of how many times they worked on a single wall! But the effect is really great. It's soooo smooth the walls feel like glass. Yup. It's that smooth! View from the living room. Still waiting for debris to be cleared. Will take one more round of shots when the washing is done. Aircon fellas came yesterday and completed the trunking to the rooms. All rooms are plastered, now left plasterboards to finish up those recessed wall areas (like the blue wall in my bro's room). All our 4 bedrooms are waiting for the new plasterboards to flush the bed head wall before painting and we are done! I love this shot where the two kitchens meet. Won't see much of this shot once the glass doors are up and the pipes are all boxed up. Meeting the carpenter tomoro morning for final measurements. Plasterboards and ceiling people should be coming this week. Electrician and plumber will be doing concurrently soon I hope. By next weekend, hopefully everything will be more or less settled. 2 more weeks! Can't wait to move in!!
  5. Ooooh okay, I'll see if that's possible with our tight timeline, else will just have to live with the trunking. Thanks again! Erm, cool to some, not so cool to some others. I belong to the latter group. Haha I'm glad it's not deemed to be horrible yet, amidst white tiles all around it!
  6. WEEKEND UPDATE Was pleasantly surprised to find 2 plasterers at my place this afternoon. They were so quietly working I didn't think there was anyone in the house until I saw the padlock out of its usual place and thought something was amiss. Lucky not burglars there to kop broken tiles, sand and cement. Ha! Tiling at the main door completed. The slope for water to drain towards the right is not as obvious as I thought it'd be after tiling that part Tiling in living room complete. That solitary tile not put in cos there was a wire next to the stiffener that was felled, waiting for electrician to come and see what that wire is for. Wet kitchen tiles laid. Contrasting with the dry kitchen tiles. Carpentry is also in contrast. Hope the effect will be good! Was also pleasantly surprised at the new rubbish chute that was fixed by the tilers. The fuchsia protective sheet will definitely have to go once everything is installed nicely. Brrrr.. that pink thing will be staring at me each time I come out of the bathroom! Would've liked to post pictures of the very nice plastered walls, but the guys were working in the rooms and I didn't want to be in their way. Shall take more pics tomorrow
  7. Thanks Reiki. Population density is still high for us despite the supposed huge space I hope it can be completed on time too. 2 weeks of incessant nagging at the ID and the different trades' uncles to come. Wish me luck! Btw, I really found your tips on wire management very useful. Thanks for sharing! Will see if my electrician can do the same with such a short time to complete everything.
  8. Thanks! I hope so too... *fingers crossed*
  9. Yup, false ceiling, l-box and cove lighting. Tiling more or less completed. Now left plastering. Still waiting for them to clear the rubbish before I post more pics. Tiling for living and wet kitchen all done. Plastering for the bedrooms are almost done, left mine and the common areas.
  10. Works feel like they're at a standstill today. Only one uncle working today. Pushed my ID to arrange for more people tomorrow. I'm feeling the heat.. Less than 3 weeks and I wonder why I'm the only one feeling the urgency. Sigh.... I'm waiting for the day I have to take off my shoes at the door to come in to see the progress. Looks like it ain't happening soon.... *annoyed*
  11. FLOORING UPDATES Making some progress today with the flooring. They finished the skirting and grouting in the bedrooms and done up the grouting in the living, dining and kitchen floors. A different view from usual. This one was taken from the "huddle" area outside our 3 bedrooms. In the foreground is the dining area, the opening on the left with the pipe is the new store room. Where the debris is, is the living room and the solitary door there is my parents' room. [Yup, the 3 of us are far far away from our parents. Away from their k-drama noise... ] Yet another different view. Next to my parents' room in the middle is the study area. The one with the bigger opening is the dry kitchen which opens up to the wet kitchen in the back there. Notice anything different? The big ball of wires is removed! One of the tiler uncles couldn't stand it getting in their way so he just snip snip them alllll away! Looking forward to a more fruitful day tomoro and saturday. Not many days left. It's full steam ahead!!!
  12. Yeah.. cleaning up can be a real pain sometimes.. Hey sleek! Yeah.. it's finally done! After waiting 1 month, it's finally down!
  13. Hahaha nah.. Not intending to put. Just curious about this whole CCTV thingey
  14. Wah.. it really pays to be prepared. Else all the trunking all over the place. And the mess all over again... Brrrr.... Okay, my electrician is coming tomoro. Will ask him then. Thanks!
  15. Thanks eden! It sure looks bigger now without the stiffener!
  16. Yeah, I've heard some people needing a permit while some don't care and just install the CCTV. Wonder if put dummy CCTV will still need permit..
  17. STIFFENER UPDATE (LAST!) Okay, this is it! Last update about the stiffener. It's been sooo long that the stiffener has come to be affectionately known as the "sore thumb". A last look at the good 'ol boy who's been there since they built this block of flats over 20 years ago. And finally.... the moment we have all been waiting for..... GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE to the stiffener! View from the main door is a clear view into the house. Don't have to worry about when we come in. You can still see the re-bars sticking out from the fallen stiffener at the bottom left corner. Hope that's the last I have to deal with any more paperwork or HDB. I'm sure my HDB TO is glad to not have to hear my voice anymore. Hahaha! Looking forward, electrician is coming tomorrow to remove the mess of wires. And the tiles, with all the skirting and grouting, wil be done by this week! All the debris should be cleared by this evening.
  18. Haha sleek you're so funny.. *embarrassed* I'm really a very nice person. I usually channel all my anger on the roads only.. Ooops! Too much info.. I can't wait for tomoro when the stiffener is finally removed!
  19. Thanks enrico! Yeah.. it looks a bit big.. To protect the super brittle fibre optics?
  20. Haha you guys are so cute.. I sure hope not too man. But yes, what adidaem suggested ever crossed our minds before. Scary eh? But it's super peak period now.. Just imagine!
  21. Hahaha amazingly I think I know what you mean... I think....... I will let my electrician know and see if what he says is the same as what you suggest. Else i'll be sure to post it here Thanks!
  22. Hey eden, Yup, the ceiling was scraped off, treated with some chemicals and plastered. Not sure what the industry standard is now, but I know there are quite a few layers of waterproofing in the usual wet areas that were done on my side. So with that episode behind us, we are looking forward with the tight timeline and precision planning now. The plasterer guffawed at my 3-week timeline. Bah..... *rolls up sleeve* Mad rush but we die die have to make it. I really don't wanna sleep at the bus stop for a few weeks. Wish us luck!
  23. Thanks for the explanation, adidaem! Really appreciate it. I was in luck! Caught the uncle who did the wet works for them when I went upstairs. So with no owner nor ID to pay me lip service, I had a very candid conversation with him. He showed me where one pipe ran and it was not near the 'problem area'. They hadn't relocated the sink too. Then I went on to ask him about the waterproofing layer and the laying of tiles. He said that he was the one who did the kitchen floor himself - both times! And he told me that he did the waterproofing layer twice. Each time before laying the floor tiles. I've learnt that the length of time taken to do the upstairs unit is a great conversation opener and the contractors warm up very quickly. Asked him once more when he came down to look at my house. He reassured me again that waterproofing was done twice and they have never flooded the kitchen during the 10+ months they did renovations there. Will continue to monitor the situation but I think I can sleep a teeny bit easier now since I've heard it from the horse's mouth.
  24. Wow.... That's the nicest thing you've said in all the years I've known you!
  25. STIFFENER UPDATE So.... the last I posted about the stiffener, we were cheering and waiting for it to be disposed of. Last evening, ID called to say that HDB’s permit states that we can only hack next week. It’s just delay after delay when the handover is in 3 weeks’ time! So, called HDB TO early this morning, he says to go Branch Office cos he can't change on his end. I made that trip down. At first, the clerk (that’s what the TO calls him) says have to submit online and wait for approval. I gave him a DUH look. Excuse me, I want to hack tomorrow cos I can’t wait and you still want me to wait for approval?! [What a 'stiff'! ARGH!] I think he noticed my change of tone and face when I said,”I’m already here. Can’t we get an in-principle approval for just one pillar?!” I felt bad that he started panicking but sorry, I’m just annoyed at all these paperwork and protocol for just one stiffener. We already have approval to hack, why do I have to re-apply for an earlier date? Long story short, he was nice enough to help me in the end. He says he will approve on the spot if my ID can send the online request form immediately. So, I called my ID. Can’t get him. Called his boss (the perks of having the boss’ contact number) and it was settled in 10 mins. Don't worry. I'm a nice person. Already intended to write a nice letter to my TO's boss. Now just have to write two more nice letters. Give credit when credit is due. The people are nice, just the SOP and policies suck. Hacking SHOULD take place tomorrow if nothing else crops up. Hope everything goes well tomorrow.
