  1. Sorry, would also like to ask for advice. If a renovation firm has closed down, can you still sue them for 1) defects, and not upholding the 2 year warranty? 2) defamation? For 2), I know the answer is a yes whether the firm is around. At most its a personal 1-1 letter. Anyone has a lawyer to recommend? Thanks
  2. Hi all, Could the bros and sis who have used this contractor kindly email me at chokkang.loke@alumni.nus.edu.sg? Will need to gather some further feedback on this contractor, especially in the past 2 years (since her works were known to have issues over the past 2 years). My previous renovation works are in a mess. She didn't manage to get her ex sub-contractors to solve the carpentry defects and now she has gotten me into further issues. Will appreciate any assistance rendered. Thank you all.
  3. Yeah, their prices are really cheap compared to the others. Anyway, i removed my comments because there is no point now. The company has closed down. So I will just have to settle the repairs myself from my own pocket. She is still a nice lady anyway.
  4. Hi all, Just would like to warn against using Home Sweet Home Renovation Works. When the renovation for my place commenced last Feb, it was already a pain and hassle as my parents had to act as the "contractor" as she was not too responsible in advising the workers. Furthermore, there were many times that she went missing and also many issues with the other contractors that she engaged. Less than a yr from my renovation, the doors for the cupboards that she did for me are bent, and after checking with other carpenters, it is due to the material that was used. Tried calling her, messaging her but to no avail. Any advice? The only advice that I got is to submit a case to CASE and then since it is mentioned that renovation works will be covered for a period of time, will try to proceed to Small Claims to see what can be done. Sigh, please don't try to save a bit of money over ur renovations and engage such poor contractors. She gave the best price but definitely the worst after-sales (after the contract was penned) service.

  7. Hi, I have replied you. Hope you can get a great deal, like myself from them..
  8. Oops and sorry for the long replies. Used to writing detailed reports so thought I should write my experiences clearly too. =)
  9. No problems. I just would like to have a disclaimer that I am not flaming the firm. they are still a very experienced and responsible firm in which they are willing to come down anytime to fix the problems. It is just the problems at times that can tire one out. But my colleagues also told me, which I do agree. There is no renovation works that is tireless on both the firm and the home-owners. It is the end results that matter most. And I believe that in the end, despite all the hassle, they can deliver the final results. Think that is important too. And Terrian, really sorry to cause you to be flown kite. My problems resulted in your time being wasted. But with that, it also shows their determination and urgency to solve all problems faced. They are willing to sacrifice getting new business (despite me paying the renovation costs already). As they did mention before, they will do their best to ensure that all goes well for their clients, so when they accept any clients, they become their priorities. So really hope that you will be willing to give them a chance, as well as other forumers. Please read on to understand why I say so. In terms of experience, yeah, she is mainly a contractor that can do everything about renovation. In terms of being an ID, it is just a bonus, cause with the experience she has, she can advice as as ID (without the stupid hidden costs). Do not worry about the prices that you can get from her. Believe it will be one of the cheapest (because there is little commission earned from subcontracctors and getting stuff) and most reasonable, and yet you get quality work (looking at the end products). So Terrian, for the renovation works you require, believe she can do it well. The rewiring is to be done by an experienced electrician, "Ah Liang" who can advise adequately on what is suitable and how best to do it. The only issue, hard to contact him initially. Too much business on his hands. Once u get, its perfect. For tiling, you can't find more experienced tilers. Slow and steady and I mean, very steady. All measurements down to the lines in each tile is layed properly and nicely. First time I see a tiler do things up to such utmost details (designs in tiles lined so properly). For false ceiling, if the boss of the subcontractor turns up himself to ensure all is well, its really good. Initially has problems too but once L*** scolded them and I demanding that they send more experienced workers, the boss came down to do the works himself and it was very properly and quickly done. (Why can't they just do that at first and all will be happy). For plastering (best required if you using cove lighting so that walls look nicer), again if the boss of the subcontractor turns up, its perfect. My initial experience with them was 1 word, "HORRIBLE". But after I made a fuss and L*** scolded them, he immediately apologised and rectified the problems. For the carpentry, the carpenter tends to be "too smart" and measurements will be taken by him by "eyeballing" so at times, his over-confidence will kill him, which is what happened in my case. But through L***, she got them to rectify the problems properly and clearly. Now waiting for the new carpentry works to be completed to comment further. Anyone has any questions, can feel free to email me straight at ranger97s33@yahoo.com. I will gladly take up any questions. I feel bad that an experienced renovation firm might lose business through my comments, but as mentioned, I am just sharing my experience, the good and the bad. So if anyone has any questions, just email me straight. Now I can be a "subcontractor" lol from all my renovation experiences... If anyone wanna know where to get cheap and good LED lights, feel free to contact me too... Got a real cheap source from the least expected shop =)
  10. Yeah. There is some issues with contactability. Sometimes it will be difficult to get her. But generally once she starts the project, sure can get her. One plus point is that no matter what time, if got issues, she will definitely rush down to rectify. There was once during my reno that she rushed down at 10+ at night (as I was unable to meet her earlier and upon reaching home, found that certain matters were in a mess). If you are looking at her for hacking, tiling.. she has excellent workers... For plastering, she subcontracts and her subcontractor is quite good (but some workers suck big time at times, do finish and left immediately without cleaning up, and kept complaining about this and that, even leaving early cause say family got problems so he no mood work). For false ceiling, similar issues. Subcontractor is good, but one worker did things so slow initially that my schedule was affected by him. But the subcontractor boss came down to rectify after I insisted on changing the worker (all talk no action by him). For carpentry works, I cannot comment cause in the midst of rectifying the issues. But least, one thing I can say is L*** is a very customer-oriented person once she takes up the project. But she seems to be always BUSY or certain matters will crop up for her and her family which I can still "close one eye" as long as things proceed well enough. So for terrain, I will recommend try give her a chance. Not sure if she has to fly ur aeroplane simply because of my case yesterday. Call her and ask her for a reason. Her prices are very reasonable too. You will also hv to consider what u want. Feel free msg me if u want any clarification. Another ID i can recommend is from Urban Designs. They are quite professional as my colleague is doing under them. I initially wanted to find them despite they charging close to $5k higher, but due to GST charges (and I was only 2 days late. If I signed 2 days earlier no GST), I didn't sign with them.
  11. So far, yesterday spoke to the person from Home Sweet Home as well as the carpenter. The carpenter insisted that he did it according to instructions agreed upon between Home Sweet Home and my side. So I would like to recommend forumers in future, its best to really obtain an agreement sketch / measurements sheet / 3D pictures at least. Else it will just be "his word against Others' words". Now, awaiting for the person from Home Sweet Home to come down. Hopefully this time, she won't be late. Cause previous meetings 80% of the meetings she will be late.
  12. Not sure how you all will view this. Initially it has been a roller-coaster ride for me. Sometimes the contractor can be contactable, sometimes not. Pros: 1) Experienced 2) Not calculative 3) Good and experienced tilers / hackers / electricians / plumbers Cons: 1) Bad sub-contractors to do plastering / false ceilings / carpentry 2) Non-responsive at times 3) What is agreed and mentioned, not done at times. Not sure if it's my parents that hear wrongly or just bad communication on the firm's part. Will update accordingly to see how my problems / worries can be resolved now.. Parents are getting unhappy with the renovation works due to all the cons mentioned above and I am stuck in between. Thought I found a perfect renovation firm after seeing responses posted by a "Bronze Member", so unlikely that the comments are posted by the firm themselves. But very disappointed now and definitely draining. Can anyone tell me what I can do? I am kinda lost now. carpentry work is up but poor.. can I even reject the goods?
  13. Hi,

Can you send me the contact info of the contractor who provided you the quotation that you posted on renotalk forum? thanks!
