  1. Given that your home is decorated largely in black and white, there are 2 ways of approaching this - either carry on with this black and white theme, or consider injecting something different. Personally I'd be inclined to go with the latter, so I'll deal with that first.

    Something Different

One option would be to add some wood/natural colours into your home, so as to make it a little less harsh/urban. This can come in the form of light wood panels on the wall, which would be visually less cluttered than pictures (e.g. see my latest post Modern Eclectic Living), but yet still remain visually interesting with the wood grains.

Alternatively, how about a large pop-art print, or perhaps 6 prints, hung in frames, in a grid formation. Try stores like Kinokuniya (the arts books' section), The Wright Gift (Ion) for such prints. Prints like those of Roy Lichtenstein or Mondrian are impactful, yet modern and non-fussy. Or for a more personal touch, how about family photos hung in a random formation, like that in my recent post Modern Eclectic Living.

    Black and White

If you'd like to continue with the black and white theme, how about wallpaper (see this) that is both visually interesting, yet still in your theme's colours.

Alternatively, black and white photos of your family are also rather classy.

Or if you're quite audacious, consider painting the wall a charcoal grey, and hang pictures/photos in white frames, such that they stand out against the dark wall. That being said, I think this option only works best if you have light floors, otherwise it becomes a little too overwhelming.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info.... What is 6 prints u mentioned?

Black and white photos is nice... but i dun have much of it... most of them are in colour :(

Do u think I can put a black and white hanging picture on it?? I saw a London Bus hanging pic in ikea, size is slighly smaller than my wall... will it be nice if i just hang that up?

And now i got another piece of wall about 3m in bedroom where i headboard is... Actually wanted to have wallpaper over it... but went to see today, the person say wallpaper need a month time... i abandon the idea...

Thinking of buying wall decal and paste over it... Just wonder if u have other better idea that can share w me...

    Thanks in advance...

  2. Hi gakuseisean, ur idea are awksome... **** nice and creative ...

I have completed my 4 rm flat reno, but there is a piece of wall at dinner area which is w/o any display...

Just a plain piece about 5ft in length painted in white... Can give me some suggestion what to do? I been cracking my brain but cant really have a nice image... My house is mostly in white and some black... Hope u can help me with some nice idea...

  3. you can custom build a slim shoe cabinet with a special compartment to provide access to the handle if your bomb shelter door is near your main door.

    But that'll cost a little.

the shoe cabinet should be something like this type of design:

    http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/good-questions/good-questions-deodorizing-shoe-cabinets-028738

If it's located inside of your house, you can try to make it into a "display" cabinet.

Those are the common solutions I had came across to beautify the bomb shelter door.

But can we change the handle??

  4. Can do on wall but will have joints loh..

Do u know where to get the sheet? I just need it for a piece of wall about 8 ft by 4 ft...

And i want to have few color and cut the sheet to my size... where can i get it?

Do u know use what to paste it on the wall?? Adhesive?

  5. ehhh shawn, what is acrylic wall panel? or acrylic sheet? If you are talking about acrylic sheet ( in 2mm,3mm etc...) u can get those on most of the acrylic supplier. Greenbook! :yamseng:

Can acrylic sheet use to paste on wall for decor?? I want to decor a piece of wall... I saw in T blog someone use acrylic to decor... think is acrylic box... if not i dunno what... Can arcylic sheet do use for wall decor?

  6. if you are only stacking them from bottom to top without a grap like what i did for my customer then its much easy. but the effect wont be that nice la. since its DIY means budget, then just stack up each other. :paint:

Hi douglas, why do u say it is easier wo a grap?? What do u mean by wo a grap? Does that mean no stick to wall?

    I dun quite understand...

Btw do u know where to get those colourful acrylic box to decor wall?? I saw in a T blog, acrylic box was use to cover bomb shelter door... and very nice...

  7. Dear el,

delay is not the issue. not making effort to inform customer is.

i definitely do not have any miss call from el number or any other unknown numbers as i will usually call back. let's say if your guy did call, twice as she stated, with no answer, shouldn't they try to continue to call to make sure your customer is informed? of course she explaint that they do not want to disturb customer. letting your customer waiting in vain for the sofa is acceptable? yes, sms, don't tell me on-one thought of such a technology. if i sounds frustrated, it is not becos of the delay, it is the fact that you did not make sure your customer is informed, AND, that your team tried to give very FLIMSY explanation, and continue to do so.

i do not wish to continue this discussion or any other explanation. all i need is a good sofa!

So did EL deliver on 24/9?

  8. Hi people,

Really new to the flat thingy and the reno thingy. Worst of all both me and my wife are the "dunno how to fight for better service" type aka "Robert". Ha..ha..

So for the weekend that past had visited the above mentioned ID firm (cos they advertise in the paper). Anybody heard of this ID firm "U home"? Any feedback on their services?

Would really appreciate people whom had engage their services before share their experiences with us? This would really help us make up our mind on which ID to engage.

    Thanks and regards

My house is on the verge on completion... doing touch up... very please w it...

A few things u need to take note for ID sourcing...

Find those ID firm w/o GST... 7 percent of 20 or 30k is alot...

Always look for review in renotalk before signing....

Ask the ID to list down any hidden cost... (though alot will say no...) those who tell u more might be more sincere...

Take ur time to find... dun rush... one mistake u will have ****... my sister make the mistake....

U can post ur quotion here for ppl to review if u dun mind...

    Gd luck and happy sourcing...

  9. Yup leather...

Length should be less than 2m, maybe around 1.7-1.8m? Possible for a 3-seater?

But at same time, seat height should be around 43cm.

    Haha, tough one.

Or, any idea if can get wooden sofa riser anywhere? Safe to use?

1.8m can max 2 seat... 43 cm shd have... try hommage... the boss is frdly and shd be able to help...

    riser i not sure...

  10. Hi folks,

I've been looking around for a suitable sofa set for my hall that is not that big.

The seat height cannot be too low due to the old folks at home. Recommended was about 43 cm. And seat cannot be too deep also.

But it seems those that can fulfill that seat height are rather bulky and deep seated. Length usually around 2 metres.

Given the size, it seems the hall can only fit a 3 seater.

I am wondering what are my options, especially if the seats of smaller sets can be made higher?

How long u want the length to be?? Leather?? I just bought a fabric sofa w length 2.5m and the height is adjustable..

I believe the length can be customize too...
