  1. How my 2 switches look like. They are beside the light switch to my kitchen. View of the feature wall from the switch
  2. They are controlled by 2 switches that are side by side next to each other. One for the feature wall. One for the cove lights. Usually I will switch on both, but if need be, I can also choose to just switch on one. 2 drivers are in use but because they are from the same batch of lights, one remote can control both sets of lights.
  3. Yes, I believed they seen the leak and water damage from the ceiling of my neighbour downstairs. I went down to see also. Yah, I think total solution is good, but very inconvenient with having to pack and shift out for 2 weeks and the dust and dirt of hacking....will have to ensure they cover up and do the works properly..and have to spend another 2K on the hotel stay for the period..sianz
  4. Hi killgumby, have PMed you..gd luck in ur search for the white door knob!
  5. It's just toilet leakage..somehow the water-proofing was not done properly or something...not exactly sure what caused the leak, but the ceiling of the unit below me was quite bad and apparently had to be due to water leakage from the bathroom. They did not offer any compensation even though that is my only bathroom/toilet in the house and as it's impossible to live in a house without a toilet. I will have to book a hotel room to shift my family out for the period of works. They proposed a "quick" solution of laying a layer of Epoxy over the bathroom tiles which will only have downtime of 3 days for me rather than 2 weeks..I'm not very confident of that lasting in the long term due to the quality of some of the works they did for me...so am asking for more assurance of an extended warranty..because at the end of the day..the damage to my bathroom is still there..just that it is "covered-up" and when the covering layer fails..the problem which they caused will re-surface again. I don't think it's that serious to warrant demerit points so long as they rectify at the end of the day? Well...let's see what they come back with for me..
  6. haha I did not get that in the end as my wife prefers a vacuum cleaner where she feels will be more thorough as you can control exactly where u wanna clean
  7. yes! u made a gd guess! apparently toilet leaking.. and I don't have a lot of confidence in them fixing it..I'm afraid they will mess up the house further when hacking and redoing the toilet floor...especially my laminate flooring...the quality of some of the workers is quite bad...after complain on the poor quality...have to wait..then come down rectify and not up to standard...i have to call and complain again and then wait again.. hopefully they will live up to their promises..shall wait and see..
  8. Thought my chapter on house renovation should be coming to an end pending rectifications....but looks like major reworks may have to be done...may have to shift out of the house for 2 weeks....sianz..
  9. Thanks, have PMed you the contacts. Yes, LED rocks!
  10. You can check out Hommage Tradings at Tai Thong Crescent. http://www.hommage-trading.com/ They were selling at $799 when I last checked a few months ago. The one in my photo was actually from one of the shops at International Furniture Centre at Sungei Kadut. It was more expensive there at about $1K+.
  11. I didn't buy this so not too sure but I think it is ard 100plus?
  12. Pro: it matches my house theme and I like the color. Con: was told that it could be more difficult to maintain than white and water marks more obvious. Acceptable to me personally though. D note the this is the perspective from someone with an all white theme ;p My thinking is that if a spot in my house is dirty, I would prefer to be able to see it easily and avoid or clean it rather than have the impression that it is clean when it is not. It is important ou like the color theme and design then you will enjoy living and maintaining it.
  13. Hi melvinlkl have pmed you. There are 3 components to the RGB LED lighting. The led strip, the power adaptor and the led driver. I was informed that the led strip itself will last quite long as the LEDs generate very little heat. It's the led driver that will be more prone to failure. It,s just a matter of replacing the driver connected to the strip if it spoils. The LED driver is also the one that connects to the remote control. It is abt 30 bucks for a new driver n remote. The led strips come with 3M double side tape one one side, so it is just a matter of removing the strp n re pasting a new strip if the led strip really spoils.
  14. Nope...no time to search for these yet....do let me know if you managed to find in Singapore haha my hse is still "number-plateless"....
  15. Don't have direct sun...only indirect morning sun..hmm...have to explore further..
  16. I have no idea! haha just saw e pics on the internet..not time to research into it yet..
  17. haha yah quite different....will take my time to source..quite tempted by the solar powered ones...coz no need to eat into power source..
  18. Thanks for the tip...will keep a lookout on possibilities..this is wat a google search got me for inspiration oh I found that got LED solar number plates... charge by sunlight in the day.. glow at night!
  19. My wife has concerns as well initially as she thought it may look "Ah Beng" but I told her if we don't like the lights, we can always switch if off ;p In the end, this ended up as one of the distinguishing feature of the living room that visitors always heap praise on...and we had lotsa fun changing colours for different mood each day (maybe coz we are still new to the reno). It's useful for celebrations/party at the house too. hmm...what you are referring to are probably the LED downlights / light bulb. Don't have to consider all these for RGB LED strips. There's really no spacing concern as the spacing between each LED is already catered for in the strip (you can't change it). They do sell strips that have LEDs that are spaced further or closer apart, but this impacts more on how bright the LED strip is. As you can dim the RGB strip with your remote control, it makes sense to go for the brightest one e.g. the 5050 RBG LED strip. Each strip comes in 5m length per reel so you need to cut or join them accordingly depending on the length you need. They come with 3M double side tape at the back so you just need to paste it down in the cove light area and let it run along the perimeter accordingly. So long as there's no object between the LED strip and the area where the light should be casted on e.g. the ceiling, there shouldn't be any shadow casted. You should probably run through your idea with your ID or electrician as based on their experience maybe they will identify any possible blind spots that you did not cater for and more importantly to help you with the planning of possible power point location for the LED strips. Good luck in your sourcing! Let me know if you have any more queries..
  20. Thanks, why won't your other half agree? coz all white difficult to maintain? For the LED strips, it's just a personal preference as the waterproof ones are covered by a transparent rubber casing. Probably if you wipe the areas next time with a wet cloth, you can just wipe the strips together as it is without fear of damage, but maybe the non-waterproof types can withstand as well even if the LEDs are all exposed. I got an electrical contractor as recommended by my ID so as to facilitate the smooth progress of the work since they are familiar with working with one another. I sourced for the LED strips myself for speed and budget. As the LED lights was an idea I had in the middle of the reno (I changed my mind on the feature wall during the 1st carpentry meeting with the carpenter when we are discussing the detail of the carpentry works), my ID advised that it may be faster if I source for the LED strips myself and can just pass them over to the electrician. Which is how I ended up with the RGB LED strips ;p My reno started in late Nov and I wanted to shift in before CNY in Jan so I tried to help out as much as possible given that that was also a busy period for my Id, sub-contractors etc. The electrician the rest of the works like power points, internet cabling, telephone lines, downlights, ceiling lights etc in the house. They also helped me to connect up the LED power to a power switch as well which allows me to on-off the LED lights in my feature wall through a light switch on the wall. I think it's important to locate the switch in a convenient spot as I intend to use the lights quite frequently as mood lighting to create different ambience in the house. Will PM you the pricing.
  21. I like the idea! Need power source for led though...
