  1. The discounted things are, I think. E.g. I bought 2 oven gloves for $1.80 each. Another time, Ikea sold kitchen rubber gloves for just 60 cents a pair. For the most of the rest, I think you pay for the nice contemporary European design (not so for the material).
  2. Thanks for visiting. Pays to do research for prices and such. Good luck.
  3. That's $7.90, right? I was very tempted to get that too 'cos they were light, flat packed and easy to carry and I was shopping alone with my toddler. But, hubby preferred something more structured.
  4. Thanks! Good luck and happy renovating! Reno. very addictive...see here, reno. finished already still hanging around kaypohing.
  5. I retained mine...part of the 1980s architecture..
  6. Oh, so that's why there's that glass block thingy beside the stove.
  7. Wow, good for you! The original price is $145...I considered myself very lucky to stumble into a Tupperware moving out sale and got it for $90. Last piece...after me, the distributor had a lot of enquiries from other customers but no more! It's really nice and easy to use.
  8. Which did you get, Xinyi reiko? The one that hangs on the wall? Hubby prefers this plastic one that keeps its shape. Hi Oonik grl, are u getting one for yourself? My kids love to dispense the rice. Was really lucky to get it at a discount.
  9. Congratulations and good luck! The reno's behind you...
  10. Like the peekaboo glass panel at the kitchen. Lets in light. Did you consider doing half-height glass panel?
  11. Latest purchases Tupperware stuff : Bread server container on 12.5kg rice dispenser with 2 litre pitcher and 2 litre water bottle at the side. 2 plastic laundry bins with flap lids from Ikea for light coloured and dark coloured clothes. Handles for easy carrying.
  12. Great location and really like the way you did up your place ... nice in a "gu-niang" sort of way.
  13. Guys from system aluminium works came and changed all window catches. Said he combed 6 hardware stores before he finally found suitable sized window catches. Sometimes it's nice to have someone in the know to do the legwork.
  14. Have a really good time before your life revolves around your kids!
  15. Lovely white room, reminds of of that time I worked in Melbourne - my room was completely white too. Hubby doesn't like all white - says it's like hospital effect.
  16. Oooh. Melbourne's nice. The great ocean road's really beautiful. South Africa's nice too. My parents went there a couple of years back and they liked it a lot. When are you going? Depends on the season and time of the year.
  17. OIC. Different people work differently, I guess. I know most carpenters prefer to work with the actual equipment: hob, oven, etc.
  18. I signed a similar clause with my contractor - $1800 per month after the contract handover date (2 months, just in case) for rental. But, the contractor finished within 1 month, as promised. Thought I was really quite kiasi and am pleasantly surprised that Bubblepearl signed a similar clause. Another suggestion regarding the washer base: generally the standard size of washer is 60cm by 60cm or 24 in by 24 in. If your washer dimension is special, why don't you go the best denki or courts to get the dimensions and rectify the base based on the dimensions. Don't actually have to wait for the actual washer to be there. Just have to take note that the outlet pipe for front load washer is high about 30-40 cm from the base while the outlet pipe for top load is only about 1 or 2 inch from the base. Good luck and best wishes!
  19. Exchanged the threader for the right size and threaded the catch. Then, we found out that the screw was too long. So, we shortened the screw and screwed it on. Then, we found that we can only put one screw 'cos the holes were not exactly aligned. Finally, we threw in the towel and called the window contractor for a Saturday appointment. When told of our window catch woes, the contractor promised to try to look for a suitable catch for our 21 year old windows. Sigh... No problem for the sliding door catches...easily found in most hardware store and easily installed by hubby in less than 5 minutes. I got one more without the keyhole from another shop along Jalan Besar for just $5.
  20. Oh dear...I thought neutral colours like grey and black go with anything? ...maybe I've no colour sense!
  21. Congratulations, Storeberry ! Where are you going for your honeymoon? Just odds and ends left for me...also trying to get used to new schedule.
  22. Can the deliveries be postphoned? Please take care, see if you can take a break for a day and do something different like sports... I was also on a really short fuse when co-ordinating my reno, purchases and deliveries, tenancy and kids; hubby commented that I was becoming very rude and loud like village bumpkin from a certain country... In times like this, I pray...
  23. Sigh...not so easy to thread the holes...bought the wrong size threader from shop far away; hardly made a dent...now we've to go back and change the threader and the screws. Think maybe it's better to pay the window contractor $40 for labour and $5 for the catch in the first place...
