  1. I agree with the gas cylinder part. Our utility bill is a lot cheaper now that we pay for the gas separately.
  2. Looks like your house is coming along quite nicely. Congrats and have fun decorating!
  3. Hi Sophia. Sorry for the very late reply. Pmed you. Best wishes and happy renovating.
  4. Congratulations! I have my hands full with the boys now that it's the school holidays. Perhaps in late Jan/Feb when they've settled in their school? But, they're in different sessions so I'm likely to bring one along.
  5. Thing is not all the neighbours would be around when you go knocking on their doors. So, I wrote notes and passed to the maid/grandma. I think it's a nice gesture 'cos when my ex-neighbour renovated, my younger one was terrified of the drilling and screamed non-stop. I was quite mad 'cos had they notified us earlier I would have made provisions to be out of the flat.
  6. I engaged Self-fix. Mine was $2200, including sealer. I'm not pleased with them at the moment 'cos the paint peeled off the second time and they've been tardy with their reply.
  7. Hi, if you are not particular about wearing second hand stuff, you can get really cheap ones from other mummies at http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/cgi-bin...oard/discus.cgi. Pregnancy is only 9 months so most of the clothes are in fairly good condition...of course, you can ask to see/try before buying. I'm not particular and wished I had known about such lobang when I was pregnant...spent close to a thousand on maternity clothes .
  8. Yantzen, Store area quite big. I put all my cleaning stuff and some baby barang that I'm still trying to clear. Mine's left behind by previous owner. Made of plywood. Most would suggest that you create a store using gypsum board or carpentry. Removable, thin and cheaper.
  9. The white conices are certainly an improvement! You must be so happy.
  10. Wow, that's seems like a really good deal. Wonder if the location is good.
  11. Fishpond Ic. Unusal concept. Do post pictures of your completed Potter's room
  12. Fishpond, Think the potter's room makes the way to the living room a little narrow, cramped and dark. Agree with TPY about the poor ventilation.
  13. No HDB loan. I am not sure about the grant...you'll have to check out the website or the HDB hotline but I doubt you can get a grant. The $50k minimum sum is required for second property purchase.
  14. You can also buy a resale flat without selling the condo. No HDB loan, only bank loan. But, to utilise your CPF for the HDB flat, you need to accumulate a minimum sum of about $50k first. You can rent out the condo or sell it when you think the price is right. You can't buy direct from HDB if you own a condo. If you sell, there is waiting period (check out the website) before you can buy direct from HDB and get the HDB loan.
  15. Unrealised paper profits also good, lah. At least when you have an option to sell, you gain. When you sit on unrealised loss you feel really lousy. All that monthly sacrifice down the drain. Really heart pain.
  16. Try selling at Yahoo auctions or Mocca...better a few dollars than dust. Higher price if still under warranty.
  17. Nice thread, Mace. Was quite impressed with the little odour reducing thingy...anyone organising a spree?
  18. TPY, what time were you up? My MIL told me that recently someone threw water bombs at a group of elderly aunties always chit-chatting very loudly near the void deck (the senior citizen corner) at 6 something in the morning. Most slunk away shocked, but one auntie, soaking wet, launched into a fierce tirade... Pity the other residents in that block.
  19. Maybe the neighbour hangs the clothes outside 'cos of the sun direction? Not a fengshui person, but yah...it does look threatening if your door directly faces the end of the poles. My place, the corridor is very sunny in the morning so sometimes, I put my son's shoes on the wall ledge to dry. Once or twice, on very sunny days, I was very tempted to put the rack outside to sun the bolster/ pillows but dare not 'cos our bath towels also hang on the rack. After reading this thread, I think I will not. Hehee...besides being a ranting thread, it is also quite educational. On my floor, the older neighbours in 2 units keep potted plants ('cos sunny in the morning, so good for plants) and shoe racks along the corridor. But, they try to be clean...every morning they'll wash their part of the corridor. People on my floor generally don't hang their laundry outside. Somestimes you see rags hanging over the corridor wall outside their homes. But, that's it. Every unit on the second floor, however, sun their clothes and sometimes bedsheets in the corridor, especially in the mornings. But, I guess since everyone there does the same, it was an arrangement acceptible to everyone (just like the 2 Malay families living side by side happily putting their plants outside). I guess it helps if you are on a similar wavelength with your neighbours. BTW, I was thinking that the corner units of EM blocks are great for people who are sick of neighbours. You get the entire landing near the staircase to yourself and can put all the barang barang you want outside without incurring the wrath of your neighbours ('cos there aren't any). The only down side is that you don't have a lift on your floor.
  20. Congratulations on finishing your reno.! I think you can via with Brother Mace for the cheapest reno! !!
