@ Nivle, Battle : Thanks for the compliments. Paiseh We wanted our home to be as simple as possible and we had it. We wanted it to be spacious, bright and airy, and we've got it. I wanted it to be clutter free and easy to clean, and I'm still working on it

Haha .. Welcome back. Still unpacking? I have resumed my old "unkickable" habit of shifting things around .

Ooo.. if the dining table is similar, you'll love it . That simple piece of storage table is the hot favourite of ALL our visitors (including the most niao ones). Can sit 6 comfortably with 2 extra at the end side. The 2 LED spotlights can be a bit warm because the overhead is underneath a beam, which makes the "ceiling" low. That's also the reason why I can't have hanging lights. We switch them on only during makan (short time so can't feel the warmth). For long hours of gossiping, we off them and on the kitchen light instead which will be bright enough. I realised how much I loved that table when we had steamboat dinner last week and it was long and wide enough to put everything on it . Previous times, we always have to open extra table.

I would hope the termites do not just go elsewhere but are terminated, destroyed, dead :fire: Then there will be no chance of a comeback or part II

Thanks May Talking about the marble floor, I am still trying to mop away the "sticky, waxy" feeling. It felt "static", if you know what I mean. My cousin assured me that another 2 more mths of mopping with water (no detergent)will ensure a smooth floor

Wow, tiling work is really fast , what with the termites episode thrown in. How's the workmanship? Looks ok from your postings.

Don't know their name leh. One 40+ and the other is an old man. Only know they stay in Jurong. Had already told Andrew our dissatisfaction with their workmanship. Don't know why still use them .. maybe because his heart too soft or their rates are so extremely low that he can't resists. Anyway, stayed 2 mths liao and as instructed by ID, had waited for "whatever cracks to appear, any leakage due to excessive use, loose screws etc" before calling Ah B, the assistant to rectify all at one shot. So, arrangement has been made for the plumber to come over to look at my leaking kitchen basin and loosened toilet bowl cover. Don't know where the screws are to tighten the cover

I am curious because: 1. My next door neighbour's 10 yrs old corian kitchen top collapsed at 1 corner because the wood structure below rotted. They kept the cabinet directly below permanently closed cos it smelt bad and they don't have the extra money to redo the kitchen. Wonder if their delay action will attract termites subsequently as the rotten wood is due to water seepage. 2. My friend's kitchen cabinet is 23 yrs old and she complained that everyday she has to wipe away small mounds of "black powder" on the table top as well as inside the cabinet. Wonder who the culprit is.

Ahh .. learned something from you about treatment of termites. Thanky. Any idea how the termites landed up there?

TELCO DRAMA PART 2 Guess what? Looks like these 2 qiants need an internal overhaul! After 2 1/2 mths, suddenly got a call from Opennet's external billing firm asking me whether I've settled Opennet's bill of $235.40. Told her I have not received any billing from Singtel. Then she sent me 2 emails insisting that I look through Singtel's June, July and August bills to locate the $235.40 figure and scan her a copy of the invoice as well as indication of my payment. Emailed her that I have not received any billings from anyone and since Opennet insisted that I should forward any request/complaint etc to Singtel when I spoke to them in June, it's only right that I should also make payment only to Singtel (via Giro) should I receive their bill. Here comes the best part - I've checked with Singtel this afternoon and there is no record of any pending bills. VERY GOOD!! Both Opennet and Singtel did not bill me for the relocation while the external accounting firm had only Opennet's work order that a relocation has been done. There is no invoice to be found and she expected me to pay based on what??? her email??? Singtel staff mentioned that they did not receive any instruction/work done from Opennet to bill me while Opennet thought that Singtel will bill me automatically on their behalf. I'll wait for Singtel's Sept bill and see if it is included. If not, then I'll be good and call Opennet to check at their end.

I suppose TC has to locate the original source of the termite nest. If your place is infested, it might mean your neighbours, up/down and sides might also be affected

I salute you for your "ren kung" (patience) and accepting unpleasant situation with a pinch of salt. If the same happens to me, I would have exploded and started World War III with whoever is in my path 3 1/2 mths ago Bo Bian! Just let them do their worst, then rectify all at one shot

You've said it May! Nivie's workers start at 8+ leh. On the average, I think mine normally eat breakfast at 9+ and start work at 10am but can still complete reno in 6 weeks. Not bad already!

This is to correct a misconception that storeroom cannot be hacked to convert into a WIW and have 2 doorways. Hacking of my storeroom was approved the 3rd time round, only after we've specifically put it in black and white that we forgo the storeroom and wished to convert it into a WIW. Ours has 2 doorways too. If it remains a storeroom and you want 2 entrances to it, then it will not be approved. Anyway, having a storeroom is useful for bulky and unsightly items like ladder, luggage, tool box, extra chairs etc

Thank goodness! Our 3 seater sofa was safely delivered today - 1 1/2 weeks earlier than the actual deadline of Sept 1. We ordered the set from winter International on July 15 and saw many nasty reviews on non-delivery, wrong design, bad service etc only after our order. However, when they promptly delivered the 2 dining chairs and on loan sofa, we were quite optimistic about their service. Then we saw news of China having typhoon havoc in many provinces which resulted in many delays in goods being shipped out. Once again, we thought, looks like fated our shipment will be delayed too. Nevertheless, we went down to Winter over the weekend to inquire and was told that our order was not affected and eta 21/8 Tues. We should receive it by 23/8 Thu. Yesterday, we received 2 calls from Winter, 1 from the delivery guy who confirmed the date and time and the other 1 from the sales staff who took our order. She just wanted to make sure that we were informed of the delivery schedule. That is the last piece of our big items and looks like Winter Intl did eventually pulled up its socks and provide good service, at least in our case. However, their prices for similar designs are much higher than other shops. You must know the market price and bargain accordingly. We quoted Star Living's prices for the dining chairs and they agreed to match it. Otherwise, we would be paying $45 more for each chair.
-
Very matching leh, the design of your wall tiles and the dining chairs. I've bought 2 of the black ones. Loved that liquor storage cabinet!
-
Gosh! After about 6 weeks' wait, sales lady (another retailer with very bad reviews) confirmed that my sofa will reach Singapore next Tues and I should expect delivery next Fri. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that my order is ok. No wrong design, wrong material or wrong colour! So far, they have delivered my 2 dining chairs and the on-loan sofa without hiccups.

Wanted 3 stools, 1 white and 2 black ones for my dining table. Found a suitable one at Star Furniture (IMM). Stock is available (no stock at Toh Guan Br)only for 1 white and 1 black, so cash and carry them home. Realised that the black one is defective, so took it back to the shop. Waited 1 week for the shop assistant to call us for the replacement. No such luck. Called her instead and was told that if we want our stool fast, then we should self-collect it at their warehouse in Sungei Kadut . Otherwise, she cannot guarantee when we will have our stool since they don't have any truck to replenish stock. Even said "you are not in urgent need right? Can wait right? I will call you when stock is here but don't know when hor!" Ah the ... So, hubby, being Mr Nice guy arranged for self-collection at Sungei Kadut. Only then did shop assistant email her HQ that she owe us 1 replacement. Plenty of stock there and hubby bought another black one. Star furniture has sooo many outlets but if none of them carry excess stock, then what is the point of selling the items at "cash and carry"???

Is this your balcony? If so, will the rain wet the "wooden floor" (unless it is wood-like tiles)?

From what I've seen of your lamination work, I think it's about time the carpenter should retire . I sensed reluctance, frustration and anger in the works. It's like the project is too much for him to take on. On the bright side, the uneven edges can be rectified by "makeup artists". Maybe your ID would know of such carpenter and is willing to assist you on this after all works are done. Might cost you extra.
