  1. Visited the newly opened Furniture Mall at Toh Guan. Lots of parking space because the place was deserted. We were just browsing around (not many shops)for 2 beds and were greeted by the senior retail consultant selling Englander mattresses. Let us test all the mattresses in the shop and girlie finally found one she really likes . Testing the beds made us feel like goldilock and the 3 bears The promotional offer ranges from $799 to $1399 for super single including bed frame and 1 reverie pillow. Free delivery and GST already included. We have 3 designs to choose from for the head board and can also choose the material and colour. The 6 legs are made of wood. The lady was very experienced. She was initially skeptical as to whether the 2 beds can fit into 1 room. We showed her the floor plan and she made measurements for the length, width and height and how much walking spaces we have round the beds. Told us how to maintain the mattresses and bed frames too. We are happy with the purchase
  2. Hahaha .. just heard from hubby that he's back. Went KL with family to visit in-law. Tomorrow he will meet electrician at our place.
  3. We let Andrew chose the tiles for the balcony because we want the tiles to be as close to our marble slates as possible. However, if a marble effect tile does not look right, then he can go ahead and choose any tiles that can match. He did mention that the tiles will be squarish, white with grey strips. We din expect it to be very big square and rather uniform strips. But since it will be a small exposed area after all the carpentry are in, I hope the difference is minimal. Our marble slates are long and rectangular while the homogeneous tiles are large square ones.
  4. Went to my place to have a peek yesterday. Hollow blocks and new wooden door frames are being erected. Saw only one chinese national there. So far, the workers took good care of my old windows and grilles . Today went down to Zenterra to inquire about installation of ceiling fans, was told that electricians will be going to my place early next week .. Cannot be leh. Our schedule shows electrical work starts when tiling ends. Presently, the whole living room is filled with sand, bags of cement and boxes of tiles. Only balcony floor is done. Tiling for kitchen and toilets have not begin. Maybe they'd start from the bedrooms Wonder whether Andrew is back from KL.
  5. The only tiling done at my place is the balcony floor. We din choose the design and size of the tiles. My 1st reaction is "why??? ..." Hope after removing the floor protection from my original marble floor, the difference between the balcony and living room is minimal. But I doubt so. Keeping my fingers crossed. Battle, I have to look out for your reno progress to estimate when the tilers will come over. The sand and tiles have been waiting here for a week liao. According to Andrew's schedule for us, our tiling works will stretch to June 16.
  6. I called Jerome yesterday. Asked about a 2 burners Rinnai hood and hob and 2 KDK ceiling fans. Because I was caught unprepared on the model no, he gave me the model and the prices for both. KDK 44" 3 blade is $170 which is cheapest so far. Might get 1 3-blade for bedroom and 1 4-blade for living room. Needs measurement from ID. Got false ceiling and L-Box lah.
  7. Aiya, my TC told me getting rid of 3 bulky items is free. If I want to throw away more items, I can negotiate with the TC foreman. Even give me his HP no. TC not so free (can't be bothered).
  8. They would have duplicated the letterbox key and collect their letters themselves unless you are able to change the lock. Take care dotty. Don't worry too much on the reno not being able to meet deadline. If you "cham siong" with the contractor to push a little, can be done one. Most time spent on wet works like tiling etc. The rest will be very fast.
  9. Haven't been to see my place since Sat. No idea what it looks like liao . I'll go over this weekend to take photos and see if I can remember the know how of posting them here . Sori
  10. Thanks dotty, I am also considering Rinnai 2 burners. Need a slim hood though. Presently using a Techno 3 burners. Can't use 2 burners at the same time. One of them will auto diminish. I think the hob is faulty. Doesn't matter, just bear with it for 5 more weeks.
  11. @Battle - I bought our lights at Lightings.com.sg. Thanks for the good tip. It's all about guts' feeling. We've been to various lighting shops but only at the above did we feel comfortable. Immediately, my girls are able to select "what they won't mind having". All lights are chosen by them. Nothing fanciful. @ May - Ya lor! I was so afraid that I would fall climbing out of the tub after showering during the hotel stay. That's why over here, though got 2 tubs, all of us use the bathroom with standing shower.
  12. I enjoyed reading your blog because of the artistic drawings, cut and paste pictures which makes things so much easier to understand Can't do anything to the pink wall tiles, like taping it over? A yellow kitchen will brighten up the day
  13. Went to check out on Lightings.com.sg at No: 16 Toh Guan Rd with my 2 girls and landed up buying all required lights except LED downlights from them. 6 pcs costs me $536.45 including GST with 1 table lamp thrown in FOC. This is a Philips concept store and prices are reasonable. Sales girl was very friendly, patient and obliging. What with my 2 girls monkeying around the shop Since Adamas is just around the corner, went in and saw Turbo stainless stain hood and hob at a package price ranging from $526. Salesperson says can lower a bit more. Is Turbo good, anyone? I hardly use oil in my cooking, so don't need a powerful hood. While at Novena Furniture Store at Shaw Plaza, salesgirl recommended a Four Star super single mattress which is 10" thick (Bottom is spring pockets and top layer is latex)selling at a promotion price of $1049. It comes with a PVC bed frame. Can choose higher or lower legs. Another 6-8" mattress with bed frame is selling at $599. Hmm.. since it is a Four Star GSS offer, I suppose other bedding store will be offering the same price. Still scouting I don't want to be force into buying branded, expensive bed sheets later because of the thickness of the mattress.
  14. It's so like Andrew! He really treat the house he is working on as his own.
  15. Thanks getzski for the tips. Will look see.
  16. Should be paid quite a bit. Shouldn't be free. If things get spoilt can claim for damages . Really, not joking one!
  17. Love that brickwall  . I'm sure it is a conversation piece. Nice, nice :good:
  18. I'd like that concept too if not having to worry about NEA keep coming over to check for mosquitoes, pruning and caring of the plants etc. Some time ago, I had a indoor fish pond at my balcony surrounded with potted plants and pebbles and climbers along the drain pipes. We even had a small patch of fake carpet grass for that "nature" effect. The maintenance was no joke and I got rid of it after 5 years. Not to mention I am no green thumb. All plants die on me. A simple, versatile and practical design is a good move Enjoy your planning!
  19. Hehehe .. there are 2 bathtubs in where I'm staying now and we haven't use it yet.
  20. Start to get a hang of things after moving in here on June 1. Yesterday went to OSK at Eunos to look see. Intentionally meet Andrew(he was with another client) there to hand him his 2nd payment. Nothing to our likings, so hubby and I went to Balestier. To have a rough guide of how the pricings are like among all the numerous shops, we targetted one very commonly found ceiling light and start to compare prices. Chan Huat had 10 shop units along Balestier and offers the cheapest if based on LP shown. The ceiling light had a LP of $78 (excl GST) and KDK 3 blade ceiling fan (44") is $175. Heard a gentleman quoting the wholesale price over the phone for the same KDK fan as $88 . He even described the specification and all. However, not impressed with the salesman's "see us no up" altitude. Kept introducing us to the old, clipped model, round ceiling lights which cost $37+ after GST. Even told us most lights brought in are not SISIR certified. No need wor! Lights & Form concept doesn't display prices and none of the salespersons loitering around came to us. Same with those lighting shops at Shaw Plaza. Prices for the same ceiling light (same design and length) ranges from $78 to $128. Didn't find anything we like
  21. Oi Battle - you from Jupiter huh?? All these electrical jargons, I catch no ball lah!! Have to get my darling girl to sign in and see what talking you Hehe, my frenz locked up her computer but when her son broke the lock to gain access for gaming, she pulled off all cables and slept on them, literally. Haha May - It sounds like "box" or "boss" to me, don't know what It had to do with speakers near the ceiling.
  22. Because the staff had used their std quote format, up the rates for certain items, input the qty required and assumed that the total will automatically adjust accordingly. In our case, due to carelessness on their part, the totalling formula was not corrected. Hence the total still reflects the std rates and not the increased rates. If the staff had calculated manually the total, she would have realised the error. With the help of Lemonades' input, we are able to calculate how much Zenterra had up the items and how much our ID supposedly gets to earn. When we showed our findings to ID, he realised that on certain aspect, he too had been hoodwinked.
  23. We only need 2 for kitchen, 1 each for toilets, 1 for WIW and 1 for balcony. The rest will be LED lights.
  24. That reminds me .. no wonder she was looking at smart TV and also ask the electrician about wiring for "box??" for surround effect, I think??? Since she's in the media industry, entertainment room will be her baby. Woa lan bo chap. Whenever she ask us whether we catered for this, that etc, we blur lah! To us, she's like speaking alien
  25. Yeah! Our sand pile is in the living room with corrugated paper over our marble floor, then ply wood, then plastic sheet. Definitely don't want seepage. Battle - You saw the lights at OSL already? Any good? Price reasonable? Andrew will be bringing us there to look see after we have settle in the serviced apt. Now, we 3 girls are operating in a hotel room while hubby stay put at my sister's place and jaga our barangs . There got only 1 super single bed for him to sleep .
