  1. Hi minchul thanks will go check it out later! Did you go ahead with the tiles in the end? If not what did you get instead?

Hi Mandj, I would have gone ahead with the tiles, but my husband was dead against them. He doesn't like such "pattern-y" stuff.

I wanted it just for my small foyer area to contrast with my living room tiles. Thought it would have looked really nice like here: http://homebylinn.blogspot.hk/2012/04/gangen.html and here: http://homebylinn.blogspot.hk/2012/04/thursday-snapshots.html

We did cement screed in the end.

  2. I was considering these for my floor too, and my contractor also strongly discouraged against it.

You can pop down to Carpenter and Cook at Lorong Kilat. I think they have used these as part of their flooring.

And also at Bugis Plus along the stretch with the Korean fried chicken restaurant.

These places can probably give you an aged simulation of the effect at your home since they are rather high traffic zones.

  3. Hi I had the same dilemma when I was choosing my kitchen tiles.

Eventually I went for grey tiles as I really wanted wood laminated bottom cabinets.

So I guess it depends on how much you really want wood laminated cabinets.

It also helped that I found a grey tile I really love but had no where to use it :)

Cement screed colour usually veers towards medium to lighter grey, so it may not be too dark.

  4. Hi, I've observed that Scandinavian wall prints can be as simple as just stripes and triangles, and really random ones like a scanned picture of their hands!

Maybe to incorporate both Scandi feel and your own touch, you can buy a canvas or wood block from Art friend, use masking tape to randomly create a pattern, and choose colours you and your husband both like and paint :) I've seem them use potato cut outs to create random prints as well.

I believe the above picture could work :)

Just for fun, I like the prints by seventytree on Etsy.

  5. Hey, I understand how it feels. I also tend to get stressed over creating the feel I'm after for my new home. But like how my husband always berate me, ultimately the most important is to make it feel like home. There are things that may seem out of place, but when you see it, it makes you smile and has the "that's so me" feel. Anyway, like mandj said, it's work in progress and you can shift the deco around as you settle in. I think the overall feel is there already :)

As for the paintings, you might want to consider something more casual? It seems that geometric/typography prints are very popular in the scandinavian blogs I browse. I think they might take away what you think of as resort feel? But of course you should like them before it goes up on the wall. It can double up as a fun DIY :)

  6. Hi, just a humble suggestion. You can try the paint dip style for your chairs.

The whole chair is not painted, maybe only halfway up the legs, or just the backrest.

It updates the chair instantly. You can even choose a daring colour and give your place a pop of colour.

Of course it is up to personal preference and not everyone may like it :)

Please show the curtains you have made!

  7. Well I think the most important point is, no matter who was the "right" person to do the job,as long as they have accepted the job, then they have the responsibility to commit to the agreed terms and do it well. You have also done your due diligence by giving them repeated reminders. I guess with the backsplash done, this should be the last you time you will "need" them. GOod riddance.

  8. It seems that the carpenters generalise any soft closing mechanism under Blum!

I was so happy when my contractor said he will include Blum for me...

The carpenter also insisted that he was using Blum... turned out to be a local brand.

It's like how we tend to say scotchtape...

  9. Love these tiles!

From what you see of the laid tiles first hand, do you think it will be suitable for the living area?

Did you get coloured grouting to match the tiles?

I've been at the tile shop a few times just to "bio" these tiles but they are so expensive!

  10. Hi jshome, I'm very interested in vinyl flooring as well given that it seems to mimic wood quite well and maintenance is fuss free.

But i'm a little paranoid about the safety of vinyl flooring material.Vinyl is made from petrochemicals after all.Did the supplier provide any factsheet about chemical content and outgassing percentage? Hope to find some reliable information or at least a responsible supplier as it is the only factor deterring me from vinyl, and the internet is quite misleading sometimes.

    Thanks.
