  1. Oh my! The person from star living told me a year or 2 ago it was $1,400. :D I remembered you bought it from them.

The tiler told me after tiling every thing will goes in quickly  but now heard that it will be quickly up after carpentry. :o

Either way the carpentry just got confirmed yesterday  and will be up about 2-3 weeks later. Not sure after that 1-2 weeks will be sufficient for the rest of the things.

haha yea, we got it cuz it's cheap (very broke then) and fitted our theme..plus can wash.. :P

it's fast after tiling if carpentry is lined up right after..usually takes about 2 weeks to finish up..but i guess the queue is at the carpentry side now (bottle-neck)..i was quite happy with the carpentry though (i have comparisons =/)..

don't worry! once the carpentry is up, other things can be finished up within days..the other touch-ups and stuff can be slowly done after u move in de.. :)

  2. Update Continues

    Furniture Sourcing

    Star Living

The last place we went today and saw some great furnitures too. Have shortlisted these :

    1474515_10152452989469546_1432909067_n.j

This sofa was selling at over 1.4k a year ago ~ :good:

    1457758_10152452989664546_585519226_n.jp

We found this mini chair from a second hand furniture dealer located in Jurong and the owner was nice to gave us these 2 chairs for free but it will need some re-painting and re-furnishing :

    1482800_10152452990099546_789289475_n.jp

i love grafunkt too, but it's really too expensive..ay the sofa from star living was also 990 more than a year ago :P

don't worry, if Mr K says he will do it, he will.. :) once carpentry is up ready other things could be done very quickly..

  3. very nicely put together! =)

i love the dining area..we also got our mirror from ikea initially to save some money, but it started warping after a few months..had Mr K to customize another one after one year.. ;)

  4. I estimate the shipping to cost max SGD270. Do not go thru daigou, Amcon is a better option.

Risk no doubt is there but this is a Tmall seller, I reckon it would be more secure than TB though.

Given the money save, I feel it is still a well calculated risk though. Many had bought sofas from TB and Tmall, items received aint that shabby afterall. ;)

good luck then..i wouldn't dare to take the risk for such an item though.. :)

  5. Itsybits,

I'm curious about how u maintain the cleanliness of the fabric sofa if you do not get an additional cover.

I'm also wondering how can u remove the tufted buttons on the cushion?

    Thanks...

the 4 cushion covers are removable to wash..we have since washed it once..the outer cover can't be washed so we only wipe it with a cloth, but admittedly not often at all. :P

Saw the papa bear chair from TB, approx. SGD900 excluding shipping.

    3laj.jpg

i wouldn't recommend getting it from Taobao though..the risk is too high for something too expensive..moreover, the shipping fee would cost you easily a few hundred, plus daigou's 5-7% agent fee would make savings insignificant..

just for a gauge, the 2 acrylic eames dining chair I got cost about $200 for shipping alone even when the legs are not fixed yet i.e. smaller box..the papa bear chair should be impossible to dismantle..moreover, quality might be an issue..the legs in this picture is not as 'pencil' as it should be and the comfort while sitting on the chair varies by different replica too..color wise may turn out different too, as i got a similar color customized cushion for my bay window but the color turned out to be a lot more dull..

if you still want to get it (or if anyone wants to buy stuff from Taobao), choose the sellers with 'diamonds' or 'crowns'..the crowns are the highest quality sellers based on reviews accumulated..first level should be stars..

  6. Hi, can I check the size of your spinning light over the dining table, is it 32cm or 42cm? Thanks!

it should be the 32cm one..

hi, is there a specific name for your toilet's sliding door? also have any idea how much you paid for the set?

there's no specific name i suppose..they're aluminum bi-fold lovure doors..bigbull has the same but made of wood and painted white..i actually prefer the wooden one!

    Hi

mind to share the link of ur curtain from taobao? How's the quality?

the quality (of sewing) is good, but material wise it's mixed..i liked the sheer white one and the polka dots green one, but the dark one did not turned out like we expected and was slightly sheer with glitters!

we end up changing all our curtains to tracks as we did up the bay window and wanted the curtains moved nearer to the windows for more space..

anyway, i've quite a few white ikea curtain rods and wouldn't mind giving it away for free if anyone wants them! They're white metal and extendable..

will try to get back the link of the curtains and get back..

  7. Thanks! An ID firm quoted me 2.5k for the craftstone wall about 10ft long

Mr K does it too right? Hope I get a better quote from him :notti:

i think the quote sounds about right..

oh by the way..you can choose the distance between the gaps of the bricks..it can make a big difference to the feel of the wall..i personally asked for bigger spacing..i've seen some with very narrow spacing which i didn't like..

Anw i think the quote sounds about right cos my ID yesterday quoted me same price for 11ft. Just be sure not to cover it with a huge TV console or in my case i was planning to have a bookcase in front cos then wasted.

theitsybits, as said by many already: what an amazingly beautiful home you have. you have inspired many! i will soon start on my reno journey once i sort out my buying and selling nightmare lol!

thanks and good luck!! it'll all be worth it..

  8. lovely job that you had done to your place.

may i ask where did you get that bat wing chair in the living room?

    how much was it?

u mean the greenish chair with buttons? it's a replica and known as a papa bear chair..i got it from Lorgan's..can't really remember the exact price, but it was around 1.8k..

Hello! Just looked through your blog and I absolutely love your designs and ideas!
Got a question for you though. Your white brick walls, are they craft stones? and where did you get your quotes from?
I'll be getting my new flat soon and is still a newbie in renovation >.<
Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks in advance!

thanks.. :) the craft stones are very common these days, hafary (this huge chain store selling tiles) has them..

we started with visiting those home & deco fairs where there will be lots of IDs..most of which are expensive and out of 10 you talk to, perhaps half will follow-up..you can skip this step if you do not want to waste the time, although meeting more and getting more quotes does help you to have more ideas and have a better gauge of prices and norms..then I approached the contractors/IDs that other renotalk people used and had good comments for quotes..

i would say, whoever you choose, always do your due diligence - do a simple and quick google search about the company/boss name and read reviews or comments from other customers..best if they allow you to meet or talk to their other customers and you can judge from there..follow your heart and be wary of freebies and sales talk..

    good luck!

  9. Very Pretty & Cosy Indeed!

Althou a bit messy, but it is so realistic.. This is how a home should be like.. not like other showroom where is alwasy so neat!

The baywindow was a nicely build too. I like how you mix and match the colours...

can i ask you to take one area? ---> your walkway!! hahaha..

From the mirror reflection, i see that you displayed photos!! As i am now in the midst of decorating my walkway with photos too.. would like to get more ideas on how to improvise it! yea yea!

    Hello..

thanks.. :) I think realistically, it's not possible to have homes that look like showrooms..not when both of us are working!

    Some pictures of my corridor:

    10190749446_24b8751fd4_c.jpg
    10190893933_cb879d229b_c.jpg

we painted the bomb shelter door with chalkboard paint and it's filled with magnets from where we've visited..the other wall is filled with puzzles and some frames on a ledge from ikea..

  10. Hi, I saw your reno blog...i was wondering how much does it cost to do wood flooring for your whole flat? I am intending to do solid wood flooring for my whole 5 room flat, excluding kitchen and toilets.

Sad part is that i took the hdb tiles on the impulse move due to parents wanting to get the whole flat up asap. Now have to spend money to hack it and relay all to wood flooring.

hey mine isn't wood, it's homogeneous tiles at $2.60psf..the whole house with laying probably cost easily 8k for 5-room..overlay may be an option..

i wanted a wood-flooring look but ruled out wood as I've a dog at home and eventually kids with rollers will destroy the flooring..there's vinyl but it's made of plastic and there's some research saying that it releases poisonous fumes and is bad for kids..vinyl is joined by a click-system joining the pieces together, so water may seep below and cause mold..laminates can create a wood flooring look too but it's hollow and not as durable though cheap..

do find some time to read up on the pros and cons of the different options before deciding! :)

    Hi theitsybits,

Nice reno you have done up! Mind i ask where you got your dining table from?

    Thanks!

it's from Commune from Millennia walk! :)

  11. indeed its a reallie pretty house with all the bits n pieces done up to make it a cosy place to stay in.

not sure if anyone has asked, where do you get the big mirror in the living area, beside the door one? :)

thanks..the mirror is also done by Mr K.. :)

    hiya

can I check did you do any waredrobe for your MBR? :)

hey, yup we did, after knocking down the wall..the MBR wardrobe eats into the other bedroom..

    Some pictures here:

    http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/49024-love-nest-casa/page-12

It's actually right opposite my MBR toilet along the walkway into MBR..you can click on the week 5 link on my signature with my floor plan..

  12. Hi theitsybits,

Nice to see you updating after so long, have been reading your reno journey and it was a huge inspiration for us. Been reading your blog since earlier the year. Am starting my reno journey with k in a week or 2 as well.

Looking forward for my own reno journey with k too. :)

hey thanks! u're in good hands, good luck!

hihi, i chanced upon your reno t blog, and i was very impressed with your house, its sososo nice!!! i understand your contractori s Mr K, may i know how mujch roughly you spend for your renovation? i am getting my keys soon, will drop Mr K a specification for my hse too. hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!

thanks! we spent a total of 40k for renovation (excluding furniture, appliances etc)

Beautiful and looks super duper comfy! Congrats for completing the renovation journey and 'retiring' :)

    thanks! =)

  13. Here's a few more pictures before I retire from this renovation blog...

This bay window area was recently added to house my CDs and perhaps some books. It has a great view for sunsets in the evening. This was done by Mr K, and we're pretty happy with it although there were some delays and communication issues given that it's a small project and he's really busy. They did get it done nicely though.

    10097139516_52ffe3ce44_z.jpg
    10097525693_de3ccefda6_z.jpg
And with that, our dream home has materialized and we live happily ever after. :notti:
I'm thankful to have met some very nice people and been of help to many others by journalling down my whole renovation experience and sharing what I know. I'm looking forward to my next renovation someday (yes, I already have ideas!) even though it may be many years after. I love how homes are a blank canvas which you could work your creativity upon and create a space and feel which best suit your taste and lifestyle. But at the end of the day, it's the people who live together and whom you love that really matters.
    Good luck people! :thumbs up:

  14. .::. A year after moving in .::.

We've finally finished up our renovation, a few months ago actually. We have finally got our bay windows done up and changed out the cheapo ikea curtain rods with curtains from Taobao after recovering financially. I think we're pretty happy with how things are now, with no more to-do list for the home and it's time to finally do that concluding before-after post.

I realized that we didn't take many photos of the bare house and couldn't do that many before-after comparison. Perhaps everything looked very much the same with white washed walls.

These are the few I found, with picture of how the home look like now.

    10101256156_73d9fc80d9_z.jpg
The living room does seem to look smaller, but it's really comfortable now.
    10101191625_d37319eb94_z.jpg
The kitchen, where I spend a lot of time in.
    10101217213_f54dffb6cb_z.jpg
The MBR, where we spend even more time in.
    10101237743_37a7b69d1a_z.jpg
    The MBR toilet.
    10101225195_d4277e57bd_z.jpg
    And the huge common toilet.

  15. thinking of using wood tiles throughout the entire house and was told it cost more by some ID.

However, your place looks good. What color are the grouts? I like the tone of the tiles you use.

Anyway, for kitchen use, are the wood tiles too slippery? That was another concern from an old contractor.

the grouts are in wood color too, so it isn't that obvious..it may cost more due to workmanship and alignment of the tiles..

anyway, the tiles are not slippery..they're matt and not that smooth..u can visit shops like hafary or soon bee huat - they've huge showrooms with areas of these tiles that you can see and step on to feel..

Love your brick wall and design of the house! Very nice with the splashes of color here and there..

    thanks! :P

  16. Hi,

is it the cost of your tv console wall only, or the full wall extending to the dining table area? Went to look for quote and was quoted like $4-5k for the whole wall, around 7m.

it's 1.5k each so 3k for both..it's about there i suppose, mine is around 5m..

  17. Wow... That's quite out of my budget... Could be becoz laying 5 of such tiles = laying one 60x60 tiles... Hence more effort.... Thanks...

hmm yea, the workmanship is more expensive than normal 60x60 as the alignment and all takes more effort too..my neighbor did it for about 6k but without service yard and kitchen..my 4-room is 100m2..

  18. Hi itsybits, may I know how much it costed u to lay the wood tiles ? (Materials + labor)

    Thanks!

i think the total cost for my whole house was about 7-8k, including service yard but not toilets.

    Hi, can I too have K contact....Tx

    hello, it's in my signature..

  19. Hi, would you be able to share what is the cost for building this craftstone wall? I m planning to add this into my tv console wall which is about the same size as the pic, but would like to know what will the cost be like? Before I start to ask if anyone willing to do... (esp this is a small project)... You may pm me the cost. :) thanks!!

    9035301722_bcc942f129_z.jpg

    hey

one wall costs about 1.5k each..that said it would depends on the exact wall size and smaller projects usually cost more..
