Hi, I think it is more than 50w. 50w at least for the fan and the energy that got wasted in the transformer. a very simple way to prove it; try touching the transformer when it is being used. does it feel hot? if its hot then its proof then electric energy is being used to produce heat energy as we all learnt in pri sch science. how much energy is being wasted i do not know, but i do think it has got to do with the efficiency level of the transformer. so remember to turn off the power supply to the transformer if you are not using it, as energy is constantly being used.

there is wastage whenever transformer is used, but getting a higher wattage output transformer, there is not much extra wastage, in fact a higher wattage transformer is supposed to be more efficient but you will have to pay more for the transformer.

you can buy transformers from amazon too.

Certain products "spike" when they are switched on causing the wattage to exceed 2 or 3 times more than the stated wattage." this was reply from a site selling transformer. this could be the reason for your problem. initially i was also very tempted to get appliances from usa, but after some research decided not too as its too much trouble and wastage involved. whenever you are not using the transformer, remember to unplug it as it will still be consuming energy. guys also remember that Most travel size voltage converters are not designed for continuous use. Unplug them from the outlet when not in use. for purifier i would recommend a heavy duty transformer, since it will be on for long period of time.

next got hdb to do cement screeding for the whole house.was torn between getting our own contractor to do it as heard a lot of negative feedback of HDB workmanship. eventually decided on hdb as it FOC vs 3k+. but i make sure i was present when the hdb contractor was doing it. as i was in my new flat waiting for the hdb guys to come, 2 of the workers came first, not sure where they are from but they speak little english. they ignored me and jus went about eating their breakfast and changing into their work clothes, and then as they start to prepare to start work they started giving me instructions to prepare too as they thought i was a worker too. haha. then the chinese supervisor came and we all had a good laugh. this is chinese contrator, a really nice chap. bought he and the workers lunch and drinks and had a good chat with him. realised the he is a sub contractor who gets his work from the main contractor who in turn got the contract from hdb. so he tells him his margin is very low. he has to complete his work in a day is not he will lose money as he needs to pay the workers daily.
