  1. Yup, definitely renovating as the place itself is not up to our taste...

So here's a list of things to do for the new place and some issues that need to be addressed:

    1. Space, space, and more space!

    - Notice that there isn't any store room? Additionally, the flat is pretty small and between my sis and I, we do have quite a lot of stuff (some hoarding tendencies which I will admit to). Hence smart space planning is absolutely essential!

    - I need a big wardrobe, because I have a lot of clothes :S

    - Kitchen needs to have sufficient working space since sis likes to cook, while I like to bake!

    2. Toilet & Shower

    - There is only one bathroom, unlike regular 3-room flats where the master bedroom gets its own ensuite bathroom

    - Having 2 females in the house to share one bathroom is potentially disastrous, so I am very very keen on separating the toilet, shower and vanity area so that there will be no strife if ever one person is taking a particularly long shower while another needs to answer nature's call urgently

    3. What's that wooden platform doing?

    - Previous owners didn't own a couch - cause of the cats

    - I would like a couch, but the wooden platform is in the way!

    4. Kitchen:

    - Hate the existing layout, definitely need to revamp the whole thing!

I'm gonna share with you some pictures which gave me some initial ideas about what I/we want for our place:

    Booth seat:

My sis and I love the idea of a booth as we are both booth groupies (when we go to restaurants to makan, we always head towards any empty booths), and since we are dealing with limited space, this idea was also very practical!

    Vanity outside shower area:

I got this photo from a PageOne book, and I really love this idea!

However, we hope to get a suspended vanity which looks more like this:

My sis has very little requirements actually, since she left most of the decision to me, but she had ONE request, and that her bedroom has lilac walls:

As for my room, I like the idea of everything against the wall, hence these layouts kind of appeal to me:

Welcome to RT and good luck! I did a vanity beside the shower area also with a wall like your image, and its proven to make much sense. Though im abit skeptical about the open shelving due to accumulating of dust and hard to clear deep end corners.

  2. You are a teacher! No wonder you have such a big bookcase in your living room.. My friend wanted to buy me a book case and I had to drop obvious hints that I got no books at home.. Haha! I read so much at work already.. Don't really want to see books at home. :)

June is a lecturer also? lol My books are actually my personal collection of fiction and comics la. I read for leisure. The real serious topic reading is by Mrs Merry.

But now with the kindles lying ard at home, the books are fast becoming relics.

  4. Hello.

Our ceiling is painted in Nippon Pure White. And the walls are painted with Nippon Sail White.

The door frames, door and metal gates are all painted in Nippon Pure White; Bodelac.

And the guys came to do touch-ups for at least 3 times as the renovation progress and even after completion.

You can use the same type of paint instead of Bodelac if you do a sealant as a base coat before you coat it with the wall paint. We used this treatment for our electrical circuit door (provided by HDB); so that it flushes with the wall color.

So u see.. for important homely details it's best u ask Mrs merry lol.

  5. mrmerry, have you installed your Yamaha YSP-2200? how's it? I might not be getting 5.1 system after all haha.. Might be getting soundbar instead :P

Also, how much did you pay for yours?

Yoz. Sorry don't see your msg till Mrs merry pointed out !Paisheh

No la haven buy yet. I haven even bought my bedside tables yet! School reopen liao , busy with teaching and my own part time being Lao student where got time to buy that.

But actually I think the longer I drag the lower the price so win. Haha

Yah la. Actually the Sony tv speakers is doing me just well already though I do still gian ...

  6. Ohh, can use the same type of paint which is used on the wall? I was told and always thou bomb shelter door need to be painted in Bodelac type of paint. haha! my reno was done early this year and we moved in since then. But i m slowly making some 'changes' to our home now and then. Always wanted to repaint the bombshetler but was told that repainting need extra cost and to save cost and time, we decided to leave it first. Now, i been thinking if we should just paint it ourselves. Althou we have moved in months, but our home still looks so 'empty'.

I like your place... like the clean and homely look . haha...

As i dont fancy feature wall when we were doing our reno, we decided to not have feature wall and just bot a good console. Now, whenever I am watching TV, find e wall too plain and i see wires flying behind the TV. sad! hahaha.. sorry to complain at your blog.. haha :)

  7. hmm well i think its nippon warm white, same as my wall color. My ceiling on the other hand is a cold white. So the light bouncing off it would be cool while light off the walls would be warm to get a mix.

If you planning to make it less extrusive, i suggest u paint it the same color as your main wall color. Hows your reno ?

  8. Owning a house is at least 10-20year affair. U will have time n u will wanna reno over time to make it into the look n feel u want.

U bought a em, that means u value space much and more importantly, the feel that you are looking to get at your new place.

Never compromise on that final goal!

  9. @mishy

haha dint u go to tt what world? seems like u ordered alot of plants. And yes.. definately definately need some greens in the house!

    @Kelhy

Yup! painted it white to make sure it matched the milk white of the whole house.

  10. Looks beautiful! Love the wood floors.. the kitchen island.. and i know this sounds weird.. but the washer dryer area looks really nice! hahahaha

I agree with mishmish - the washer dryer area caught my eye too hee hee

Hahah.. Thanks MishMish and Zihui! :D - Mrs Merry
