  1. wonder if my old chair could look like the one on the right after restoration. new chair pic is from Francfranc. another piece to be restored. My vision is to get it spray painted in cream color. minus the shabby chic. Any one know reasonably priced restoration carpenters? I contacted a few, but really don't know how good they are, though the price could vary quite a bit.
  2. did this mood board some time ago. for round tables, tulip tables are still my favourite, just the concern whether it will fit well here. as for these chairs, they looked better than they sit, at least, that's how I felt for the relicas... went to Comfort today too. saw this round table at Comfort but in darker wood. I think this has the cafe feel. the rectangle version, but its too big for my space. need to check again if this could be customised to a smaller size. still not sure what I should get. Any suggestions?
  3. Its hard to find a rectangle table that is within 1m. At Francfranc, I only found these 2 tables within the size that I might consider, but in natural wood color. this looks petite. unique shape: I will need to push one edge against the wall for both of these tables. though the second one is larger, effectively, it still will only be able to sit 3 persons. (but if really need, I can still pull out the tables to accomodate 4. Some how, the special shape of the second table reminded me of Atomi's leaf table: Have not visited Atomi before but I could guess that it will be way out of my budget.
  4. Nice! Wow, ur house featured in magazine.
  5. thanks Kenjo. seems like franc franc got many nice stuff I've missed out in my previous trips. must really go down again.
  6. wow, I love your deco. Its totally not overdone. It looks like the styling on design sponge.
  7. I'm left with the kitchen to be regrouted, main door to be changed n some other minor stuffs.
  8. Nice dining area. where did u get ur tulip table? Is that the standard 4feet? Can share how much? Thanks.
  9. thanks for the info. did you use the hook type or the tape type (think they have those where you tape the back of the frame against the wall)? not sure how good the plaster work of my contractor is, though it looks pretty flat and level. before I bought this place, i saw a house where the plaster fell out and the surface feels hollow, not sure what the owner did. anyway, I think I would use 3m for places where I want to do photo collage, and still do the screwing/nailing for larger/heavier photos.
  10. oh nice, great choice of wood! more unique and indeed compliment well.
  11. Thanks Kenjo. Will go Ghee Hong to take a look too.
  12. oh yes, they have some that look quite nice. will go down during the weekend to take a look.
  13. Oh I like the kopitiam style marble table too. But the dining lamp I chose will not match with this style.
  14. Here's a more accurate pic of my dining area (left image). Happened to come across atomi's pic (right image), where the layout looked pretty much like my place. Perhaps a rectangle table will really work better for this space. Oh, Atomi has such nice dining table and chairs.
  15. Oh my, this looks bad. I think hdb should install something to block the rain for your whole block with that facing. Did they suggest the roller blind thing? So you supposed to pull the blinds down whenever you go out in case it rains? sound troublesome also. And my neighbour may not like, since it blocks out light and also, his unit doesn't get the rain like I do (mine is corner while his is corridor unit).
  16. Hi, I just pop by, thanks to adidaem for referring me to this thread. The acrylic thing looks nice and clean. When contractors sugguested I install, in my mind, I was thinking of something ugly and spoiling the look of the new gate. But just to check with you, you only need to install at the lower portion? Doesn't rain splash on the higher portion too? My new solid nyatoh wood door started cracking after 1 month it was installed. The cracks appeared not only at the lower part of the door but also at the higher portion for the side nearer the open space as rain splashed onto the door, and on good weather, sunlight shined on the door (mine is a corner unit, hence worse). I think I will need to change this door to save more headache.
  17. Thanks Kenjo for the suggestions, I went to see Ikea's dining tables, some how, they seem to look better on pictures than the actual ones, especially for those that are white. Will pop by Franc Franc again, their designs seem nice, esp the chairs, but the chairs quite ex. yes, the dining area is confined to the right side. the left side is my altar. I like round tables, but worried may not be suitable for tight places.
  18. Thanks Adidaem for referring me to the thread. This is very helpful. I think I need the acrylic too. Will check out this roller blind installation too. Didn't know HDB will install. Some contractors told me can "illegally" install a panel to block the rain, but if neighbour complain, I will have to dismantle. I happen to have a problematic neighbour, on top of the problematic house.
  19. Yes, the water marks should mean that water is leaking from upstairs.
  20. Nice! I like the first shot, looks so cozy. and lovely tv console too, it looks like a lighter shade than the usual ones I see.
  21. Hi itsybits Do you know if for plastered walls of old houses, ok to use 3m? I wanted to use that cos I dunno how to drill holes into the walls, but a few people told me it will fall out as mine is old walls. cheers originalbread
  22. Oic, sounds nice. Juz spoke to my contractor, he say laminate should b more water resistant. But its scared of sunlight. Will change color or pop up with extended period of sun exposure. he recommends veneer if I want to change, but also n guarantee that it won't crack. If crack then revarnish. This is reall a problematic house. Did I mention that water marks r already forming at my kitchen ceiling?
  23. Just realise that I never did post my floor plan. Here is the original layout. I've made some changes like making the bedroom doors face each other rather than the living room, make a storeroom in between the bedrooms and also knock through the bedroom for access to bathroom. Realised that my old table is too big for the dining area (on the right side on the plan just outside the kitchen.) Got to find something within 1 meter in width. Would a round table or square or rectangle table works better here? There is a dining light on top (see wire dangling from top). Any advise?
  24. Oh I never got to find my way down to Hommage as its quite far from my place, though I heard a number of good reviews. You received your dining table yet? Looking forward to see your pics.
  25. actually only doors part come with ABS trimmings as doors more heavy usage. I think also, we can take more care of it ( I always wipe dry immediately when it gets wet) as compared to the main door if the main door gets exposed to sun and rain.
