  1. When I use my power drill (also borrowed from friend to make sure mine is not the cause) and run into tight spots, my RCCB and MCB (both the one with single push switch and the one with dual push switch) will trip, turning off all my electricity. So I bought a 10mA RCD plug http://www.horme.com.sg/product.aspx?id=2217 hoping no need to keep resetting the MCB. I also changed the RCCB but problem still there. But the tripping still happens. Is there any other thing I can do?

  2. Hi, had this lost of power problem in the last week. Hope some qualified electrician can advise or point me in the right direction.

Flat: HDB 5 room, built in late 90's

Renovated, rewired and replaced all switches, MCB, ELCB 2 years ago.

In the course of last 8 days, I've had 2 lost of power, the power came back on within less than 3 seconds without me having to reset the breaker.

The appliances that were on during the time: lights (4/5 ceiling lights), fridge, computers. (split unit A/C were turned off at mains).

Today I think the power went off longer because my laptop auto shutdown (not power off) by itself. It only does this when AC power is cut off and it goes into battery mode for more than 10-15 minutes.

Neighbours don't have or didn't notice this problem.

    Really really appreciate any advise.

    Thank you.

  3. Do folding door. It's lighter and easier to maintain. You can even find those trackless-at-bottom type.

Sliding glass door, then you need soft close. Don't think overall will be cheap. And I really dislike something on the floor that traps water and dirt, and the pain (physical pain) when you step on the tracks, worse than foot reflexology.

  4. Hi,

My toilet has only 1 lighting point and I am thinking of adding an exhaust fan to it. Can I "extend" the lighting point and use it to power the exhaust?

Mounting the exhaust is not an issue as I am not removing the glass. My challenge is the nearest 13A is too far and I want to avoid drilling holes on the wall tiles for a 13A switch outside the toilet.

  5. My experience, having lived in a flat with cement flooring:

    Good:

    Looks: rustic

    Cost to do: low

    Bad:

Attracts scratches because everyone thinks "it's rustic" so they drag the chairs, tables, boxes etc on the flooring. And these scratch marks are like scratch marks on wood, can't be covered. What's worse, the scratch marks exposes the cement powder to the air.

Someone left a box with adhesive tapes underneath it. The glue on the tapes sticked to the flooring. Cleaning with alcohol rubbed off the layer of protection on the flooring and now there is a ugly patch.

  6. Yes I also heard that the Vinyl chemical issue, but afterall you see, if it's you, do you think you have faith on laminate again? :((

My experience after living in 4 places with tiles, laminates, parquet...

Tiles - OK but difficult to replace when cracked and too cold (parents old liao)

Parquet - $$$$$$$, difficult to maintain

    Laminate - :no::no::no::bow::bow::bow:

Vinyl - Seriously considering for my resale flat

Chemical wise, everything also emit chemical - from the glue in the cabinets, mercury from fluorescent and CFL to the PVC material in some carpets. Hack, even the coloring on the tiles are chemicals.

So I would take my chance with vinyl.

  7. My personal viewpoint, my photos are reserved for the small claims tribunal.

My id company is lousy. Suppose to do 1 kitchen and 2 bathrooms within a month and give an allowance to 1.5 months (Till 25 Aug 2013). The id either unable to manage his workers or cant rebothered about it. So up till today, its till an unfinished project with disputes

One of my heater got problem after installation. The master heater was ok and the common heater had problem. My ID text me saying that my heater spoilt. I ask him, are you sure. He replied that after his plumber installed, he asked his electrician to come test the electricity and no issue. So I asked him what am I suppose to do. I asked him whether he can take it down and I bring it to the shop (I didn't buy the heater from his recommended shop as its twice the price there) and then he put it up for me. My ID said that he only put one once. So I had to call my heater company to ask their peeps to come down. Ariston engineer came and was laughing his head off - ah di , your contractor stupid is it, in and out also never put properly. Put opposite. So there waste half a day of freaking leave for me.

My custom made kitchen cabinets, were of worse quality than off the shelves, with the laminate edges jagged and poorly formed. They refused to change it at first and got their carpenter down to touch up a few times. I barred my flat recently so the last two times the carpenter came down, I was present. The first time, there were no visible difference to kitchen cabinets and drawers. Their carpenter went off happily and just walk past me and say finished already before I can say anything.

The 2nd time, the carpenter brought another younger colleague down and was suppose to "change" the laminate, there was another contractor who came to varnish the doors. The varnish contractor was waiting for me whileas the carpenters came slightly late. The carpenters came in for an hour or so, broke for lunch for about 2 hours plus and returned, whileas the door varnish carpenter was an external contractor employed by them, stayed throughout the lunch time to complete his job before going to take his lunch.

The carpenters to my horror, touch up my dark brown cabinets and drawers, with kindof green stuff. So my cabinets and drawers were greenish in colour at the corners. I called my ID to tell him, and I had to wait for 2 plus hours for him to come and view.

Furthermore, their workers walk from my master bedroom toilet to the living room when their boots are covered with cement. So my broken marble flooring had cement stains from the toilet entrance to the living room. Not only stains, but my broken marble flooring was scratched and had holes in it.

Be wary if you take this company IDs. PM me if you want their company and names. 3 big companies but 2 are subsidiaries with one main. My company is one of their subsidiary. So even when people say chose big company sure no problem, its like freaking ****.

Wow, please PM me the names.

    Thanks

  8. I just got a q

Haiz.. See this thread very sad.

Initial quote was abt 60+k but it was with china tiles. Then we changed to european tiles. Already told my mum that his quote was ex compared to another one we received which is slightly below 60k but my mum wanted to use him as he was highly recommended by her friend.

Anyway, those who say 40k can settle is too optimistic la. We did ask several IDs but they said to fully overhaul a 4a resale room, minimum would need about 50+k.

I just got 3 quotes for my 5I resale (1370 sqft). Highest quote - 77K before nego, includes removal of old and install new kitchen cabinets/counter tops, toilet cabinets, tables/cabinet for bedrooms, shelves for living room, change of windows, hacking of 2 walls, erection of 2 walls, change all wiring, wall/floor tiles, labour to install lighting, sanitary wares.

Price excludes: furniture, appliances, light fittings, sanitary wares.

    Good luck nego'ing

  10. Hi all,

I am working on a project that requires the use of steel/metal/aluminium plates/brackets. These are meant to mount weights of up to 5kg on walls. Any idea where can I find small quantity and sizes?

    Thanks in advance.
