  1. Oh and here's my fridge!

It's MIC. but who cares. looks nice can le. Overheard salesman telling some customer not to get.. get another one ($700 more) coz made in Korea. We not so rich lo.

Where u buy this from and what brand? Looks chio :dribble:

  2. the peranakan tiles look gorgeous. but they're not my cup of tea. yup, i'm boring like that. :thumbs up: lol.

I picked the cement looking tile for my kitchen. a lil dark like the pic u posted. dunno how it will turn out =P

I think cement screed tile will turn out good for kitchen! It's practical yet not overly boring! :sport-smiley-004:

  3. Ya bought 2 only cos I have to ask my KL colleague to drive out to Ikea over the weekend. And then trouble my immediate boss to hand-carry them back. He rolled his eyes when I asked him for the favor haha

Think we can spray the lamp shade. The accordion arm is made of chrome so doubt it can be painted at all.

Depending on what you wanna match them with/ the wall colour, you can colour them in vibrant colours! I bought a mint green vintage table lamp, very nice colour! Er, but i didn't take any photo; immediately stuffed it into a big box in office where I store some newly acquired barang barang for the home :P

  4. How about Ikea? We were just thinking most kitchen accessories from there and probably some from Amazon :)

Ikea has this black rail which is not bad, but I don't like the shape of the "plate" which is fixed to the wall, makes it look a little country style. I believe this is powder coated and so will scratch/wear off over time. As for stainless steel rail, I've heard that Ikea stainless steel stuff quality is not very good, that is, they do rust.

  5. Took some photos of the tiles side by side. Below left is the blue tone rusty/metallic tile, the right one is a medium grey, cement screed like tiles with a bit of lines and hairline crack effect :sport-smiley-018:

Forgot to take sample of the bronze tone rusty/metallic tiles, am thinking it may work better for the kitchen cos it's warmer.

And these are all the 3 tiles put together, right most one is the peranakan/patchwork tile:

Which one works best for the kitchen floor? :dunno:

    Welcome all comments! :)

  6. I think the rusty tiles suit your dining set better... But I may be wrong.... Or maybe to be safe, print out the Hafary tiles in several pieces, print also your dining table and put all together. Then see if it will go well? There seems to be a possibility that it will blend beautifully too.

I won't be hacking floor tiles in dining area, it will be the original marble tile. So dining area is marble whereas kitchen will be another tile. The rusty tile seems to be more industrial looking? as it's quite dark in colour, may make the already small kitchen look smaller?

  7. Yes it is all quite confusing but at the end of the day, do what you & your family really like cos all of you are the ones staying in the house for long.

Hmmm cooking Mr E sure can cook better than me. Even his fried egg is better than mine. I haven't tried his baba dishes but I think he is better in western dishes. Oh his Bubur chacha not bad :D

Peranakan food is so yummylicious! Nom nom nom... You are so fortunate! :sport-smiley-004:

  8. Mr E shared that peranakan tiles are European-influenced and look similar to the ones at Hafary and the 20x20 ones at Unlimited/ An Huat. But there is 1 strong trait for the true blue peranakan tiles - their colors are brighter, bolder, and usually with yellow / blue / red in the designs. Flowers used in the designs include rose and tulips. There are animals used in peranakan tile design but not commonly found here. also the tiles are placed in such a way that it is a eclectic look yet not gaudy (ok, I am still trying to decipher what Mr E said on this :P

One last thing, he said also usually the 10x10 tiles are placed together with a rectangular tile that forms a border (maybe 10x30) if we want to achieve the most authentic look. so now we are trying to see if we can get these longish tiles and fit into the overall bathroom walls with the 10x10 without veering off to the world of gaudiness.

One house renovation exercise and we are learning so much new stuff!

OMG all the motifs and colours and stuff! Sounds tough to find! Your MR E is really a true blue baba yeah? Is he good in cooking? :dribble:

  9. how about top brown bottom white? LOL

I actually thought of this before! But usually people choose bottom brown top white, not sure if top brown bottom white combi will cause an overly heavy /bulky look on top?

Or maybe I can break the top cabinet into two layers? Something similar to this but bottom white --> white backsplash --> brown cabinet --> white cabinet? :dancingqueen:

  10. Or should I choose this tile for kitchen floor?

It has a very interesting rusty kinda effect and is slightly metallic. The top tile is more bronzy while the bottom one is more bluish., It will change the entire look of the kitchen, from slightly retro-ish to more industrial style, which I am afraid may not match my dining area which is right beside the kitchen.
