  1. been really sick the whole week & haven't fully recovered. a sick woman is a grumpy woman.

i was really upset with Lush Lush today. i ordered my tv cabinet last year & asked for it to be delivered in the 3rd week of march this year. about a week prior to the supposed delivery, i called lush up to confirm the delivery only to be informed that my item failed QC & delivery will be delayed. i asked for next delivery date & they said 2nd week of april. so i called again in the 2nd week only to be told it will be pushed back to 3rd week of april. so again i called today & was informed that delivery is expected to be in the last week of april or first week of May.

this is the first piece of furniture i ordered for my house & it's also the last piece which has yet to be delivered. i find it ridiculous because:

    1) no one called me up to inform me the delivery will be delayed

    2) delivery date kept changing

    3) the customer service personnel claimed that they will call me to inform me should shipment be delayed or when delivery is confirmed - which of course NEVER happened as i was the one who kept calling

    4) i asked to speak to higher management & was told there isn't any & that the customer service executive is the only person in charge - is this how lush is managed? if it is, i'm not surprised why their deliveries & customer service are so screwed up

my TV is still sitting on the floor for the past month, waiting for the cabinet to be sent over. lush's service standards is really absurd.

This is really horrible. Can you ask them to loan you a tv console for the time being?

  2. Yes, every pieces there is so eye drooling.. wasted it was our first outlet that we visited, so hard trying not to burn our pockets for now. Due to Renovation also have not even start.. haa that's how appealing to us it was, had to book it due to low stock count. abit kiasu hor? heh

Their stuff are nice but rather pricey I feel. I hope you didn't pay too much deposit! Can always change your mind later :)

  4. it's very exciting.. it's almost like receiving presents! today the last of my shipment came.

The 2 sofas! along with small items like the kitchen racks and some tee shirts. shipping was $400 plus. so estimate the total price of soda is less than $500 each with shipping inclusive.

havent unwrap so no pics as yet.

    =)

Wa! U bought that storage sofa? Looking forward to your pix!

  5. Oh ya didn't notice the laminate grain... Maybe will get Alan to lay it the other way? Living room is those typical 3 room narrow types so if need to elongate, then need to focus on its width.

It is very hard to find a real solid black tile so we opted for the non-slip tiles shown above. From this angle, the 'black' looks more like very dark grey but it has a bit of shimmer so hard to capture the true color.

Hmm, have you thought about how u want to lay the laminate? Say if you want to do it this way, it'll look weird cos the grain is running along its width. I don't really know how to explain, hope you get the drift :)

  6. Hey, tofu is 10x10, match with 15x15 baba tiles, and an huat tiles is another dimensions is it? So the fancy tiles will interperse among tofu tiles? Sounds like tough mathematics to me. Hurhur.

Notice the black and white tile isn't in your selection. You not using it anymore?

Eh, btw your laminate wood grain doesn't run along the length of the laminate but across the width. I find this a bit weird leh. If it's the former, the laminate can help to elongate your space also.

  7. bleucheese have you started your carpentry work? I did a bar counter that sits in between the kitchen and the hall,. Kicked up a big fuss when I saw the carpenter used silicon to level the bar counter on the uneven ground. They could have done a more neat job by taking note of the uneven ground during construction instead of using silicon (my kiwi fren who was a profesional handy man and an architect think so too). my contractor told me its a common practice in singapore to use silicon, and she has learnt a lesson from this encounter and will explain to her clients in future.

now I have to take extra care when I mop the floor...

Eh, silicon may turn mouldy especially when it's so near your floor tiles. Really must be careful when you mop.

My island has a concrete support base with white tofu tiles on its exterior. It's done up already, now pending installation of carpentry. No issue of silicon there but the black grouting joining the floor is really ugly.

  8. Oh I want to ask for abs trimming? Normally only on the door? Cos I have a space for microwave oven, no door just a hole, the side no abs trimming leh & can see the black lines very obvious. I'm using the 12mm laminate...

Erm, I have no idea. I also have 2 cavities for microwave and nespresso, but have not seen the end product. If I remember correctly, my laminate is 10mm.

  9. The concrete sink support is just the interior that remains concreted, while u can continue to use a normal laminated door to cover and diguse it. The contractor must be lazy.

Hmm, so the laminated door goes over the concrete sink support, therefore cannot see the sides of the concrete support base?

  10. I choose the pure white and thin laminate.

I did ask for the diff between 1.2mm laminate, the contractor said thick laminate will see black lines at the edge due to the thickness.

So I choose the thin one.

Hmm, I thought abs trimming will make the black lines appear less obvious. No?

  11. An update on the renovation :

Disclaimer : This is my opinion up till what I have seen so far. If there are any changes, I will update them at that point of time.

    1. The renovation is very fast, am surprised at the speed of the workers. I feel like I am holding back the workers as some of the materials have not arrived yet.

    2. The tilers that Alan has working for my place are really very good. What I have seen up till now, the workmanship of the laying of the tiles for the bathroom and the kitchen seem to be clean well aligned and seamless across. Even the windows area, I saw the tilers assistant going grinding and readjusting so many times just to fit it seamless to the window lines.

    3. Whenever I spot an issue, usually it is a design communication problem, the tiler says, "No problem, I will redo it for you" . He re did two areas to what our expectations were. I got to really thank him for that as he had done 3/4 of the stuff and he took it down and re-did the place exactly the way I wanted it. That is what I call great service and workmanship!

    4. There was some ceiling leakage problem. Some contractors just to get the work done, would not tell you and just cover up the ceiling and finish their work and go, however, the tiler called me up and ask me to take the photo and go to HDB and report it. If he had not told me about it, I would later be suffering with a ceiling leakage issue. So thanx again!! :D

There is still a lot of work to done done, but so far they have been pretty good, I will update further as we go along.

Here are couple of pictures from the last visit :

You are there often to can ask tiler to re-do for you? You are so lucky to get a good tiler...

  12. hmm dont think so? I used PERGO at my old, walkup apt and a german brand laminate for my current flat. didnt see any silicon being used. I will get them to redo if i see silicon being used. The window company guy gave in after I asked if he will come and change the silicon for me when it gets mouldy.

Mine is parquet flooring. Wonder if it's the same? I shall go back and scrutinize at the original wood skirting. The silicon part is in areas whereby carpentry were dismantled hence have to add skirting.

  13. Hi bleucheese I engaged a main contractor for my reno project except the double-glaze windows for the balcony (used one that is recommemded by a number of RenoTalk folks). You should be able to demand the contractor to rectify the tiling defects if you cant live with it?

I am happy with the overal result of my reno project and its not without issues of course . but i have learnt to be more forceful towards the end of the project and get things done up nicely . One thing I have learnt is contractors are very fond of using silicons to seal up gaps as a quick fix. I refused to accept using silicons to seal up a small gap at the corners of two other bedrooms by the laminate company, sent the worker back without fixing and came bqck few days later with a proper solution by changing a section of the laminate (took the more experienced uncle and his assistant more than two hours to fix), I also refused to accept the use of silicon by the window company to seal up the small gaps between the walls and the new windows. the more senior worker gave in and even helped me put up six curtain rods while waiting for the cement to dry.

Interesting point about silicon usage. Is it common/ normal to apply silicon at the topof skirting where it joins the wall?

  14. If u can be a contractor after this Reno! I can be a tiler! Lol I'm gg grout them myself when I'm done w the unpacking.

Oh ya, I remember you have grout that came off. Bleah.

Now u talk about this, I'm tempted to remove some of the grout myself and re-grout! Check this tutorial out.

If you managed to grout them youself, please do share how u do it with us!
