  1. Bro, wat downlights u using for the LH? Looks like can alternate between warm white (yellowish light) & daylight (natural light), or is the camera/my eyes playing tricks? Haha!

The downlights i use are warm light, just that with/without flash on my phone camera, they somehow looked different on pictures.

However, u see the gigantic light in between the downlights? That one can toggle between warm/white/natural lights by switching, or remote.

  2. Thanks for the infor. But now I wonder if I order the led light with it come time and my contractor able to install

It usually takes 2-4 days for the products to be delivered to the China collection centre, and another 2 weeks for the completed orders to be shipped to Singapore, and another 2-3 more working days for the delivery to doorstep (assuming you choose economy delivery).

  3. I'm so looking forward to your renovation to be done! I'm intending to get LED downlights from Taobao too for my living room and my bedrooms. How many watts did yoe purchase?

The LED downlights I got are 3.5W warm light. My ID said they are not bright enough for my living room. However, I bought these downlights because there is a L box in my living room, and the L box's existence is to cover the water pipe that runs thru the living room. So I planned for ceiling lights in the living room too.

If u are depending on just downlights for your living room then my guess is u will need 6W and above ba.

Maybe u can go to any lighting shop to check out the brightness, and the price, to decide what watt to get.

  4. They never run thru with u the positioning of all the toilet assessories before installation? Once installed ho say liao! I oso got a few not-so-ideal installations but they consulted me before installation so only got myself to blame.. I guess pros & cons lo..

Else, looks like progressing well bro! :thumbs up:

Hmm... i did point out the GENERAL position of where i want the basin to be installed, but I did not point out the EXACT position, so the plumber used their initiative.. in the wrong way. :curse:

Oh well.... luckily they said they will install the bathroom accessories only after the cleaning, so I will definitely PINPOINT the position to them this time round.

Moral of the story: You really cannot assume that these guys know what you want, coz they are not you. Don't leave it to them to decide.

My cabinet is coming up, and I am sure that's another round of "battle" coming. :jawdrop:

  5. 2 to 3 years back, I wanted to buy a similar water-fall tap but was told it is "not PUB approved" yet, probably because it dispenses too much water. I wonder if the position is still the same.

I suppose you already have your answer to your question of whether can connect a hot/cold tap to a cold water only pipe. The answer is yes. Some plumbers connect the water supply to just one side (probably cold water) but I think it is better to use a T-joint to connect the waters supply to both sides so that whichever way you turn the tap, you can get water.

    Hi kstoh,

Just curious, who was the one who told u the tap was not PUB-approved?? Contractor/ID? Hmm... yes i think this tap wastes too much water, but when I was "shopping" in Sim Siang Choon, i saw a lot of taps, rain shower system, and even WC that do not have any tick on the water saving ratings.

I did not get any answer to my question for a period of time, and so i went to a bathroom accessories shop near to my block, and pretend to be an interested buyer. I asked the sales guy if I only have cold water, but want to use mixer tap, what could I do. He mentioned about a "convertor". The answer was good enough for me, for i then know my purchased taps could be used. I then saw the T-joint after the installation of my basin. :thumbs up:

  6. Whatever it is just beware for new house owner who is doing renovation, in my case the price double what stated in the invoice they are smart to break it down as accessories or fitting like drain stopper, bottle trap, drain pipe if your basin drain is expose. When I check with other shop in IMM, all necessary accessories & fitting is included in the package except mixer. If anyone asked just tell them you are buying yourself and what you need is to take all necessary dimension.

As a first-timer house owner going through this renovation process, I have learned quite a fair bit from the mistakes that I made. Luckily i have close friends and colleagues who have recently gone through their own renovation process, and they shared some valued information with me, otherwise it would be more disastrous. Of coz, the folks and blogs in this forum help a lot too. :good:

If there is ever going to be another reno for me, I'm sure i can do it better than now. :notti:

  7. Hi, can I know how order the items from Taobao? Did you engage someone to order and help u to ship to SG?

Can I have the link for the lights u bought?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi tazzer,

I use Peeka. To find out more on how to order thru them, you could read thru this thread: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/58354-taobao-help-needed/?hl=%20help%20%20on%20%20taobao

Alternatively, you could read thru Peeka's FAQ page, which is pretty straight forward: http://buy4u.peeka.sg/faq

Which LED light are you interested in? I could send u the link.

  8. The ID saw the LED downlights that i purchased, and commented that they could be too small to be bright enough for lighting up the living room. He also commented that those downlights that he installed for his other customers at the altar area are bigger than what I have gotten. :bleah:

Then he saw the giant ceiling light for my bedroom, and commented it may be too big and bright for the bedroom, and proposed putting the light somewhere else like the living room. :bleah:

He then commented the 6W LED warm light that I got my both toilets could be too weak to brighten up the toilets, given that I use dark-colored tiles. :bleah:

KNS, like everything I bought is of the wrong size. :curse:

Nevertheless, i do not wish to buy any more lights, so I'll proceed with whatever that I have got. The most i change all the lights if I am not satisfied with the effect after a few years. :thumbs up:

  9. A small oval-shaped basin for my common toilet, with the same big taobao tap with waterfall effect...

Water point for washing machine... they installed it this way and that effectively took away 11cm of the space for my new washing machine. Luckily the washing machine can still fit in.

Effect of the rain show system

Don't understand why must they install the basin soooo close to the door side. I have to put up some trays or items to the right side of the basin to fill up the space. I wonder where the mirror will be placed then.

The bathroom spray i bought from Sim Siang Choon, and it leaks!!! The worse part is, I did not keep the receipt given its small amount, but I did not expect SSC's stuff to be so bad. Grrr... in the end I went to NTUC to buy a replacement spray head. This is the SSC one...

  10. The plumber came and installed most of the bathroom accessories. Before the installation, the plumber told my ID that for stuff purchased online, there's a 50% chance that these items won't work. Hmm... yeah... 50%... its either [work] or [don't work] isn't it? My ID relayed the message to me and I was pretty worried about it. But so far so good....

Master Bedroom toilet.. the taobao tap looks nice on it I thought...

The rain shower system... and it works fine... *phew*

  11. Good progress! :thumbs up:

Haha, we chose the same wall tiles for our MBR toilets except that u got a mix of both the black- and lighter-based tiles. I did up everything in the lighter-based one. Ya quite like the effect.. :)

Talk about plastering, it looked flawless but I find the surface kinda soft & susceptable to accidental hits (causing tiny dents on them). Paint oso seems not to fuse very well on them. Over time, some roughness will show too (mayb becos the base walls of our old flats are after all rough like orange peel) :( Well, hope mine is an isolated case lor & urs will still remain nicer than ur skin in many years to come.. kekeke..

Wah jus4fun, on the wall tiles... i only have one phrase to describe both of us... "great minds think alike"!!

Anyway, i was told by my ID that the showering area could take on a different color scheme to make it "stand out" from the other area.

But my common toilet is too dark liao. :(
