  1. anyone keen ..... http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...t=0#entry501630
  2. tat is scary as should we be travelling, we wont know the outcome if this blue altis is around our car when it went up in flames, not to mention too when they come by to start cleaning up and painting....
  3. how true, i jus whacked a stack of BD from Amazon including Harry Potter's latest BD release at a pre-order price of only USD15.....and Singapore is selling ~S$50 - CRAP!! i havent gone to a cinema for years....and the only setback is my movie viewing is always behind the general public so when popular movies are screening at cinemas and everyone around is talking about it, can only keep quiet and drool
  4. bro, Dolby TrueHD is not a marketing gimmick, what I wanted to elaborate to you is as follows: there are movies that are encoded in Dolby TrueHD with 7discrete channels and since you have only 5 speakers, the back two channels would be mixed into your surrounds.....all you loose is some details and will not get to experience what the producer of the film intended the viewer to experience thus, to benefit from Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA for concerts or movies in 7.1 format, the above applies. anyway if you are planning to watch DVD's most times, none of the above mention will apply
  5. bro, to benefit completely from Dolby True HD you need a total of 7speakers and 1subwoofer.....so in the event that you have only 5speakers and 1subwoofer already puts you at a disadvantage... so what i am driving at here is for such a HTiB setup, these feature should not be your top priority, its merely there as a marketing hype
  6. morel make good drivers, not sure about their home speaker range though but they are somewhat similar to dynaudio, using oversized voice coils. my wife has morel's in her car and they sing very well....i have dynaudio at home, love em they are power hungry though.....
  7. well tell him to keep the setup if the price is more then $500 (everything)...the owner should not depreciate the equipment based on purchase price as prices have changed drastically even if we ignore the increments of value. in the resale market, doubt anyone would even bother to pay S$500 for the setup. alternatively, implement your setup in phases. buy speaker, AVR and bluray first and use normal LCD or Plasma. when budget next becomes available, buy PJ, etc....of course, this sequence can be tweaked to your needs. hope u understand what i am saying....
  8. bro, no prob to assist you, me not in sgp, so nothing much to distract me for now.... i should ask you whats your budget for a pj, do you wan it new or do not mind a used set? Optoma HD20 is a good value buy as recommended but your budget matters too...so got to balance between good value versus affordability.
  9. bro, the models you shortlisted are actually not home theatre calibrated models but this does not mean they **** be used for visual entertainment. shall spare the details on the actual difference between these models as it may bore you out. Infocus IN35 - not short throw means you need longer distance to get a certain diagonal screen size. native is 4:3 means when you watch 16:9 movies, you get black bars top n bottom by default. only in 4:3 mode do you not get the bars but faces n objects would look odd for movies. supports 720P though Infocus X16 native 4:3 and 480P only. Infocus X21 native 4:3 and 720P only. All got no HDMI inputs....so do consider, these while are very affordable, are very basic models which if you are planning to own a Blu-ray player, would yield you no real benefits. You maybe better off with a 2nd hand 720P/16:9 with HDMI PJ.
  10. i hate to dissapoint you but i think the price quoted for the setup is not of good value...throw in another >S$500 for the bulb, you are looking at >S$2100. from the description, the setup is already old, approximately 5yrs +/-.... with this same budget, you may get a new AVR that supports the latest audio formats, entry level sat/sub spk and a blu-ray player. u may continue to re-use the existing wirings in the false ceiling if you do not mind hope this helps....
  11. thank you for your compliments..... my setup actually has changed somewhat.....when my work travel schedule dies down next month, i will put up a new pix for your viewing..... a screen can come cheap but those are basic screens with no real gains in contrast, blacks, etc....diff screen type can assist in giving you some additional gains depending on what you are lacking it can be as basic as couple of hundred for a 70odd inch onwards to many thousands - leave it to the discerning eye again. i would recommend a fix mount screen if possible as the pull down screen would end up with ripples (curls) over time. i got myself a carada direct from US - hand carried back in one of my trips to the US at extremely good value. to buy anything overseas, for me to consider giving up the warranty would be dictated by the cost savings, if i can achieve at least 50% of the cost, then i think it is a worthwhile gamble, so my bluray player etc were all purchased overseas and handcarried back - forgoing the local warranty but hey, its big savings. using fedex, etc to ship it back would also be fine but would negate savings as logistics aint cheap and GST will be charged at the end. in a month or two, i got lobang for Optoma HD86, brand new but without warranty as its not a local singapore set but very attractively prices, <S$2500.
  12. bro, my generic advice to you would be simple: $$ + Shiokness to your ears - As long as these two can complement each other, the setup would be for you. How much balance to apply to these two variable would depend on you. As $$ increases, the level of improvement decreases (diminishing returns) but then again, you may not have a discerning ear for these details, so why waste that $$. Well, if you have that $$ and have that discerning ear and always crave for the limit, go for it. All brands are almost equal in features but have different sonic characteristics...so get one that suits you.
  13. you need to also consider light control in the form of dark out curtains, etc... do you also have budget for a screen? helps to a certain extent..... if you are a heavy TV watcher, consider also the cost of bulb replacement, wont be cheap and average life is >2500hrs onwards....
  14. if one has seen the manufacturing process of LED's, one will know that there is huge process variation between the cheap commercial available type versus the higher end LED's. the cost savings comes about thru allowing minimal process controls and testing. this translates to LED's with big variation in Reliability and Quality. at this point, i do not think that commercial LED's are suitable for long term use to replace conventional lighting as yet.
  15. i have the cylinder but i doubt this is the range that you are looking at. btw you may also consider SVS speakers and their sub, that would be a nice compliment
  16. SVS can only be demo'ed at the home of SVS owners but you got to note that an SVS will not be like your typical subs which go boom boom boom, it has depth without that sort of typical boom so for the untrained ear, it may not be your cup of tea
  17. actually it should be the other way round, JAMO can be had locally while SVS is an online store based in US-OH. i heard that soon KEC would be the local distributor
  18. his would be an acoustimass system as already mentioned 5.1 with the .1 being the subwoofer for clarification, HD sound format is not about the speaker as a 5.1 setup is sufficient to support the HD sound formats but its a matter if they would like to implement the sound formats in the setups
  19. my advice would be go with your ears....buy a brand/model that fits your pockets depth and your ears else end of the day you are satisfying others not yourself
  20. if we were to ignore the pricing of BOSE, it sounds decent but if you factor in the pricing, one will realise the money could be more well spent but then again it depends on individual because some are more focused on the audio system aesthetics (this is where BOSE marketing is focused on) rather then audio quality (those with non-gold plated ears will digest this) back in US, BOSE does not command this level of price premiums at all and can be bought at major stores unlike here only in a "BOSE boutique"
  21. well, i was lookin at serving "warning letters" or such anyway i am fine with such stuff and i dont really get bothered as it doesnt affect me directly just thinkin out aloud, i jus do my part to not have clutter
  22. if wat u all claim are true, i.e. knowing which family, belongings of those clutter, calling of Town council....then what on earth is the Town council doing? Resting on their laurels and not act but to wait for a mishap (recall the Redhill incident where a child fell thru the rusty railings)....dont we have a case for escalation? sometimes the way these organisations function really amuses me.....
  23. no offence but from the way you described things, you seem to know exactly which family the clothes rack, charcoal stove and altars belong to, would you mind to share more details? from the look of things in the picture, the altars (both the altars) seem to belong to the family that was using the charcoal stove to cook.... and it seems to be different from your description.
  24. if u look back at some post back, in fact i think many, u will realise that i did mention about students lying around on Deck 4 of the MSCP, have witness that too many times, especially on P.H where girls be lying around and there will be the so called "guys" that walk around up from one staircase and down from the other.... no idea what these pple are up to.
