  1. More Updates!

Perhaps the only thing I find more glaring in terms of the carpentry work was the joint lines of the laminates. My dad used to work in the carpentry line and said this is normal. But I went around checking out my cousin and friend's house, the joint lines are not that obvious.. Maybe they used brown coloured laminates so it isn't obvious. Unfortunately for my case, white and grey can't hide that brown joint :(

But I did visit the completed flats of my ID and have seen the joint lines before I signed. It's a clean brown line that is not noticeable from far and doubt people will scrutinise my carpentry work anyway. Showed the pic to my friend and she said it just looks like a design.

Here's a close up of the joint line I am referring to. May be worthy to highlight to your ID if you can't accept it, so they will find solutions for that, perhaps by using a more expensive laminate that can fold over the corner / use a similar colour laminate to cover the line, instead of cutting up the laminate and joining them together at the edges.

  2. Updates!

Okay I've seen my house in real life for a few times now. Everything looks pretty okay with minor defects here and there (mostly in the internal of the carpentry work).

Here's more pictures - kitchen with backsplash up.

  3. Hello Jiawen, your house looks great. Do you mind sharing me your id contact details and the breakdown of the quotation? Tried to pm you but your inbox is full :)

    Thank you!

    Hi Forever,

    I've PM-ed you the contact.

Sorry won't be sharing the breakdown of the quotation to be fair to my ID. You can refer to post #5 for my detailed carpentry works and the approximate cost.

    Cheers!

  4. Hi Jiawen. I love your idea of the mirror concept @ bomb shelter. Can't wait to see your updates on mbr. Btw is your flat standard or premium?

Thanks! The mirror made the entrance area looks bigger than it is. I'm happy with how it turned out too :)

For MBR i only did 2 bedside tables. The rest will depend on my choice of bedframe and deco above it. Will show pics when those are ready.

It's a standard flat, but I opted in for the optional component scheme, so it came with HDB doors and tiles.

  5. You are very brave. U use glossy laminate for almost the whole house. :good::good:

But it looks very nice... Please show us more

Thanks! I love the glossy white too, it made my off white wall colour look cream though. haha.

Will show more pics when there's more updates. Seems like everything is pretty similar to the photos my ID sent me at the moment.

Perhaps kitchen first as backsplash is up!

  6. Some updates on furnishing. furniture hunting is very fun!!

Some of the sofas that we shortlisted while looking around.. we wanted something more mid-century with wooden or thin legs. love the turquoise one but it was sold out at Like That One. The hair pin leg sofa is from Second Charm but a customised piece so we were not able to have a 'test sit'..

finally we chose our sofa from Comfort Furniture as we like the ergonomics and the shape. We also customisied the fabric color. should be here by end july.

bought these laundry baskets from taobao

and selected Limed-wood for our blinds in living room - that's the top one. good thing it is waterproof so would be easier to clean.

    More on carpentry....

our common toilet vanity cabinet. the black handles are the same laminate material as TV console. we like kompac but it seems more expensive so our ID proposed these woody laminates for a similar effect.

Hi there! Can share the tb link for the laundry basket? thanks :)

    Hi Tarzanboy,

Nop my ID doesn't charge GST :)

I got my downlight at $30 per pce and one year warrenty..

Will PM u my ID details..

  8. I am also deciding... Sigh the ugly pipes is a turn off... I am getting the citygas man to come down for a survey next week after I get my keys... Super excited! 😁

Oh I didn't know they provide service to survey the houses.. this is useful knowledge for other homeowners!

For the ugly pipes, I guess they can be "concealed" and blend to the background by painting them the same colour as the wall. At least the colour will not stick out sorely.. Plus it saves us the hassle of ordering tanked gas :)

  9. Congrats nbr!!! Very nicely done!!~~ ur reno is very smoothly done even in ur absence, which is very good. Muz giv credit to ur id n mom :)

hehehe now I'm waiting for ur house tour invites :P

    hehe thanks!

after I clean up, wipe down abit and checked for defects I will let u know ;)

    sometime next week k?

  10. Phew. Okay that's all the photos I have for now.

Think I'm missing pictures for our study table and the toilet vanity and that will pretty much conclude all the carpentry work for our dream home renovation journey.

I have not seen the carpentry in real life yet but there's a few concerns I have from the latest pics.

Crossing fingers, and most likely, it is just camera angles. If they r indeed concerns I will highlight them next week when I see them!

The next stage will be mostly on buying sofa, bedframe, dining table, coffee table and all the necessary decoration to make our dream home cosy yet minimalist!

  11. More updates!

Using mobile again. Not sure if the pics will show up. But all carpentry have been completed aside from my toilets vanity cabinet doors.

Let me try to post the photos.. EDIT: it works. yay!

  12. Hey babe,

I see. The savings are substantial compared to electrical water heaters? Just wondering if it takes long time to heat up water and if you have to switch it off all the time, like eletrical heaters.

Am considering this for my place as i have no experience with gas heaters at all. Thanks!

Hey there, it's actually my first time using gas heater as well.. did most of my research in RT and talked to the city gas sales pple.. have not started using so unable to share much =x

So thanks darkwingz for stepping in! haha.

I will actually still off the city gas heater when not used to save electricity.. Since mister and I are both working and likely shower either early in the morning and at night..
