  1. Just curious, how long after you stayed at a place will you think of redoing the reno again?

I know in my parents days the number is like 20-30 years when things really break down but nowdays the things that we have dont seem to last like my parents days

So how long before people usually redo their reno?

  2. Has anyone had experience replacing their gas water heater with an electric one?

I am on my 2nd Gas Heater after 2 years...1st spolt after like 3 years..2nd one after 2 years...is getting tempermental....performance is flakey..i might save on electricity but i seem to be wasting a lot of water waiting for it to heat up and the water doesnt stay hot..it goes cold then hot then cold...might be the water pressure cause I am on the 11th floor and i draw from the roof tanks...and my MBR toilet and common toilet is seperated by my balcony

Thinking of replacing it with a electic heater but problem is my piping is run for the gas heater...can i jsut replace it iwht a water heater so the water heater can still serve both toilets or must have one heater for each toilet if i go electric

Has any one had experience with this? Any recommendation of contractor or water heater I can consider

  4. Anyone has completed their running of the cable by OpenNet contractor?

My house after reno, the trunking from the door to the living all hidden behind my cornice, will OpenNet be able to run it using the trunking or are they gonna run a new trunking outside the trunking?

Also anyone knows if I want to run an additional point and pay for it will they do it for me?

  5. Im using Steven from IdealHouse. So far, he has been rather responsive to our request and is on time or earlier for our appointments....

Workmanship wise - I wouldnt say its perfect, there are some hits and misses. You gained some, you lose some! But overall, its quite satisfactory.

I would say he has integrity! I have 2 incidents to share:

    (1) The cabinet door above my hod & hood was shorter by 1 inch and when i informed him, he replied that he is aware of the error and he have already requested for new doors and will have them replaced the next day. That was 11 plus at night. He could have leave it as it is and if i never noticed it, he could have save the hassle of changing them...

    (2) We have installed a tempered clear glass door for our kitchen entrance... and there was this small part that was chipped off and was covered with the plastic roll (the plastic that is used to cushion impact and cover up gaps) by this workers. And the chip was definitely above eye level and i could have missed it! But Steven was the one who informed us and mentioned that he will replace the door for us.

Good to see Steven is still responsive and his standards have not dropped :D :D

  6. Anyone has contact to custom make sofa custom cover?

Our sofa was from Wihardja T2206-Daybed-L.jpg

The sponge they use for the cushion is not good and they just use the bare sponge then the cover. Not like the usual way where the sponge is covered with a cloth covering then the cushion cover is put over it

We are thinking of either changing the cushion or making new cushion cover . The cover they gave us is very hot if you lay on it too long and also not so good, the zip spoil easily. Also we cannot take the cover out for washing becasuse the sponge is too big a piece

We are thinking also if its possible to make instead of 1 long piece cut it up to 3 smaller cushion so it easier to maintain next time

Any one has contacts to do this?

    -Celest

  7. Just got my rooms relaid with vinyl tiles...here what they look like

    02112009030.jpg

    02112009031.jpg

Work was expected to take 3 to 4 days for 4 rooms including dismantle of old tiles and laid new one

But they took 1 day to do everything. Only thing was they did not really scrap off the old 40 year old glue. The tiler said the old glue stuck on the cement no point scrapping off, just overlaid

Was quite apprehensive about it cause worried it might not stay stuck on it. But after all work was completed it looked good. They even uses plaster the edges of the tiles near the wall so that water wont seep in below

  8. Hmm... base on some findings and discussions.. was told that the vinyl flooring was not recommended as it's not lasting as compared to laminate and tiles. Esp the older folks straight away tell me don't bother to think about vinyl flooring..

May be that is the reason many distributors and retailers don't carry this kind of product anymore?

Is it? The one who prefer the vinyl flooring were the older folks in the family. The said laminates no good, cause cannot do wet moping

You know older people when they mop its always very wet , magic clean they also dont like, cause waste money, use and throw use and throw. So not much choice if I do not want to hack

Anyway vinyl flooring should last, the exisitng ones I have are already almost 40 years old and we never really maintain them. Just that now the glue they use is no longer holding the tiles, so I had to find someone to change them

  9. hey kajua, cool ! timber lookalike rubber tiles. Got pics ?

You mean many contractors declined to do vinyl/rubber tiling? Anyway, mind sharing whats the cost psf ? can pm me if its not convenient.

Yeah not many contractors do vinyl flooring. I been searching for one who was willing to do it since 2007. I asked my ID to source for me, I ask my office estate guy to source for me and they could not find any. I even email some of the distributors and retailers all never respond

Got no pics of the tiles cause I only saw the sample and just choose. Work starts soon if all goes well. I can take a pic and post it here when its done

But there was quite a selection. There were homogenous tiles look alike, timber floor look a like, the rounded ones

  10. hey people, on the subject of rubber tiles, has anyone came across rubber studded tiles ? Mainly used commercially (my office lift), are they ok for kitchen ? Will water seep through between the lines ?

Just found a contractor willing to do vinyl/rubber tiles for my 3 rooms for me

One of the samples he showed me was this type of design. But we choose the timber floor look type of tiles instead

  11. My KDK A11YS been running for a year. Was just wondering , do we need to get people to check it regularly?

Who can we call to check ? Any ideas?

Also anyone else using the A11YS? Does your fan make a sound when its running and there is wind from outside blowing in?

Mine is in the living room, sometimes when the wind is a bit stronger from the balcony, i notice the fan makes a sound. If i turn it off, I can see that the fan is slightly tilted. If we manually moveit back to balanced, the sound goes away. Is this normal?
