  1. ohhh bad bad vicx1234. now you got me hooked!!! can share your Q0010 link where you bought this? arrived d? funny how come its all the guys who are so bent on getting the irobot. my man has been pestering me to get one too...

baddddd badddd vicx1234... you will be the reason why i am getting one too..hahahahaha

The reason being it can cut down on the house chores and its hassle free. Hahahaha

Actually I think the vacuum robot has become one of the MUST HAVE things in the house. In our time pressed society, all the household chores can really add up especially if you don't have a maid. Investing in a good vacuum robot is really the way to go IMHO. Spend your precious time with your loved ones instead :D

I heard initially it takes a bit of time to program the robot correctly but once it is set up, it's just plug and play. More well behaved than most kids, can go back to it's home after it's done haha.

    Yap agree on that fully.

Some more house updates - it's really starting to come together eh?

We've really come a long way haven't we. Just seems like yesterday that our place was an empty shell, but put a door here, a cupboard there, some lighting and the place is instantly transformed. It's really great to see this all happen in front of our eyes, and we are glad to be sharing this journey with you fine folks. Anyway, thanks for all the support and comments thus far!

So the evorich tiles are up, the skeletals of our carpentry are also up and more recently the lights, blinds and some toilet accessories here and there. Ok here are some pics!

This is the display cum bar cabinet that we are quite excited about. The charcoal coloured center will be left open and it will house things like our coffee machine, wine bottles and well as wine glasses. We will also be able to mix and prepare some simple cocktail drinks here. As you can see, we did away with internal laminates cos (1) they are expensive and (2) we don't want to bust our budget too much. For something which eventually will have doors, I think it's something we can live with.

Here is the laminate panel and tictac door to hide our storeroom. You may ignore our topless friend there. :dribble: We clad the panels in the same laminate as the kitchen cabinets for uniformity.

Yes! Bathroom doors are up - nice frosted glass panels with a black powder coated alum frame. It is the same for the MBR toilet.

    ouai.jpg

The uncompleted living room feature wall, but you can see where this is going. Quite pleased with the look of it, though the wife did mention it would have looked nicer if it were more rugged. I think I agree. ;)

A closer look at the laminate panels for the feature wall.

Last picture for the lot, our study room blinds!!!:good: Very pleased with the look of it, and even more pleased that it covers up our orange framed windows. haha

    ud6f.jpg

The laminate walls looks really good, you sure make the right choice for it. :good:

Overall the house is slowly becoming together and sure look very nice for the smooth and even color theme

  2. Sometime last week I was researching on robot vacuum cleaners and came across this thread on hardwarezone:

    http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/home-decor-furnishings-188/lg-roboking-3692302.html

Having been impressed so much by the reviews, I immediately msged E and told her that we need to get it haha. It is available in Singapore via autovacstore for $908 or from QOO10 for $699. Just so happened that the QOO10 store was having a promo price at $599 so I immediately bought it. Free delivery summore! Will do a review of it once we start using it.

My friend's house have a vacuum robot too and been thinking of getting one too when my house is up

Heard you can just program the timing it should clean and etc, once done it will go back to the docking station which I find it very good.

  3. Ohh so it was there already when you purchased the house.

I thought it happen during renovation.

Rain i doubt will be able to clean it, think you use a broom and brush with water hose.

Else if there is upgrading or washing with those elevator, ask them to do it.

    Hope this helps

  4. This was the hacking modification we made to our flat:

    gallery_58707_247_60542.jpg

We hacked away an L-shaped part of the original wall and replaced it with glass. Then we customised a wall-mounted study table from our contractor, made to specifications. I was rather anxious about the result, because I have not really considered the practicality of this design. Would it work? We were relieved that the result was as we envisioned, and no major problems arose during the process. There were so many things that could go wrong e.g. hacking not done well, cracked walls, fragility of glass, quality of the study table etc. The hacked wall and the glass had to be perfectly aligned but we understood that it would be very difficult to do so. Naturally, there were some gaps between them, but our contractor used silicone to seal them so they still looked fine.

I liked this design, because it makes the living room space look larger. In addition, I like to be able to look at the TV when I am using the computer in the study room. It is also easy to watch the main door from the study room if you are expecting guests. As I mentioned, the tricky part is really conveying your idea to your contractor, and work closely with your contractor during the whole process.

this is a very good idea and it look nice.

  5. HAhaha

    Hi Songz,

Oh yes, can't wait *rubbing hands in anticipation. In fact, super excited now as my contractor just sent me some pictures on the installation of cabinets. Now its hard to keep my butt glued to my cubicle seat as inside I am doing indian dance all rounds :dancingqueen::dancingqueen:

Can't wait for office hours to be over and will rush down to my place to see the progress :jammin::jammin:

From the lighting pics can tell why you are so excited. Hahahaha

Hope to see more pictures of the house when you are free. Looking very nice and bright ^^

  6. By now, most of us should have grown accustomed to the idea of having a room in the house where we basically can't alter any aspect of it other than the flooring and wall colours. In our case, we are still pretty satisfied with the location of the HS in our home so its not a problem. We also don't have an issue with the HS door and don't see the need to conceal it since the raw look is one of our desired elements. In fact, we are looking at ways to include the HS door as a sub-feature of our design. ;)

Anyway, I firmly believe the only way to have the government to sit up and really listen to the ground sentiments is to hurt them at the polls, too bad it only comes around every 5 years but this is another topic for another day. :good:

    Sensitive topic.

Don chat it at here ~ wahahaha ...

  7. Nope. will not be ready for CNY. Most likely early March by the looks of it. As i only got my keys at the end of last month, I already know that completing before CNY is not possible. Furthermore, i do not want them to rush and compromise on quality/workmanship. Nevertheless, i'm satisfied with the progress so far. At least all the demolition/dismantling and mansory work are completed, and all the windows are replaced. That was my initial target and it has been met.

The outstanding items are: aircon, laminate flooring at 2 bedrooms, L-box installation, stucco wall, electrical wiring, lighting/ceiling fan installation, glass backing between kitchen top and bottom cabinets, hob/hood mounting, iquartz kitchen cabinet mounting, carpentry works, plumbing and painting.

All these will complete after CNY. And due to the 2 weeks CNY break and 2 weeks required to fabricate the carpentry works, early March is possible (barring any unforeseen delays or mistakes made by sub-contractors).

Totally agree that quality/workmanship is most important

  8. E here,

Anyway as I was going to fix the 3M Undersink filtrete system, to my horror I realised that the stupid plumbers didn't use the original parts as intended. They didn't return me the hot/cold water tubing for all three sets of Delta faucets.

Now in place, they gave me some cheapo tubing which totally can't fit my 3M tubing due to the difference in screw threads. I went to our local hardware shop and I m on quite good terms with the shopkeeper who told me that the original tubing that comes with it is quite costly and hard to find.

Although I did remember telling Ah Beng the plumber that I don't need hot/cold water, but I I didn't recall telling him to use his own and keep mine. Since we are using cold water, it doesn't matter whether both tubes are hot or cold because both can still be used regardless.

Bloody dumb retards. Now I have to go hunt high and low for the tubes that fit all because some itchy fingers cannot take instructions and use the original parts and which in turn kept all my hot/water tubings that wasn't used!

Anyway you can contact the plumber to get it back ?

To my knowledge most of these plumbers always use their own as they are used to it and take for granted they are all the same.

    Hope you can resolve it.

  9. I understand your concerns

At least this shows that you're a responsible person who thinks very carefully before committing to a huge responsibility like getting a pet, unlike so many people who buy pets on a whim, regret it and then either dump the dog or try to give it away. *blood boil*

Just 3 days ago, there was a link about an abandoned Husky over at Boon Keng. When Grace (the Husky) was found, she was dehydrated, emaciated, her body was shutting down and was just waiting to die - here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grace-the-Abandoned-Husky/765756080118466

People like that really make my blood boil.... .... How can someone just toss their companion away to await death by the rubbish collection area?

I also commend you for taking so many things into consideration instead of just giving into your desire for a dog. *thumbs up* :thumbs up:

If and when you finally decide to get a dog, i'm sure you will be a very thoughtful and responsible owner!

However, I disagree when you say that one of your concerns about not wanting to get a dog is because you don't wish to grieve again when it dies, just like how you grieved for your previous dog when you were young. That's like saying "I don't want to enter into a relationship because I don't want my heart broken" or "I don't see the point in doing up my house nicely because sooner or later, I'll be selling this place off". For me, I've never had a dog before but I can only imagine the heartpain i'll go through when Aki finally dies (thankfully, by right, this is something that I won't have to face for another decade). But my hubby has had several other dogs and he's also been through the stage where a dog of his dies. He too grieved and cried, but it hasn't deterred him from loving another dog. Instead of focusing on the pain you'll feel when it dies, you should focus on the joy, pleasure and happiness that you will bring to each other throughout its lifespan instead. :thumbs up:

Friends told me that too on the last part which maybe why i am still single ~ wahahahaha

I actually understand and agree but i am those kind of person who are 拿的起放不下, will try to improve on it as i always tell myself

Thanks for the advise, greatly appreciated.

  10. Congrats iceage!! Time passes by so quickly!

Before you know it, the 24th will be here and your reno will be more or less completed!

Sorry for the excessive use of exclamation marks but I'm so happy for you.... because after this comes the exciting part of packing, moving and the endless rounds of cleaning! hahahahahhaha :thumbs up:

wahahahaha ~ endless round of cleaning

  11. Sure! That's all part of the excitement isn't it? More to come hor bro! :P

Feel free to share when ready. We can share our experiences too! Cheers!

PS. Can PM me.. I may be able to share my detailed quotations (from multiple IDs) did up in a spreadsheet.. the prices may not be valid but the line items may be helpful :)

    Good idea ! :thumbs up:

I should list the stuff into a excel sheet and compare :deal:

However I think I will consult the FSM first before I do this as that is when the design will mostly be finalize. :notti:

  12. I always wanted a dog too but knowing myself, I worry I may not be able to give it a lot of attention which may make the dog suffer.

Not to forget while working, it will be alone in the house.

Another reason is that I am worried that I will take a lot of time grieving if my dog dies after some years like when I am young.

Think well before you get a pet

    (*Just my 2 cents worth)

  13. Just to share, did a complete overhaul of my 28-yo 3A (74 sqm) abt 1.5 yr ago in 2012 at >$45K (prices might have changed since). Included everything except retained the 2 bedrms' flooring (overlaid with laminates) & 3 original metal door frames (living & bedrms).. also hacked the original storerm (2 walls) & re-erected it (2 new walls) into the kitchen area.

However, agree with claypot that it may be difficiult to comment w/o looking at the details - scope & extent of work (e.g. how much carpentary; i have quite a fair bit) & quality of materials used (e.g. granite vs. solid surface for kitchen top)

    Thanks a lot ...

The reason of not posting the quotation yet is

    1. due to placement of some things not yet confirm and quotation are based on few different design.

    2. the housing renovation pictures and quotations are in a mess thus will wait while when I am a little more free to sort out the mess of the papers. Hahahaha ~

  14. Thank you Songz for your kind words. I went to many lighting shops but could not find a similar one. However, gotta wait for about 2 weeks for it to arrive but no regrets here. The platform area was designed to be a cosy area for both of us and we just love it!!

How's your renovation progress? Hope everything is going smoothly for you :)

My first OTP is on 6th Feb and mostly getting the key only in Early April.

Now I am lurking around the forum for contacts and ideas for the house. Hahahaha ~

Not posting on my topic recently as want to review everything all over again and not to forget the work that need to clear before CNY.

Met a few IDs previously and the pricing for doing the whole house cost abt 40+K which kind of really make me wonder if I should cut down on some renovation and etc.

Reason being Renovation + Full house furnishing will cost about 60K I think
