It had been so long since my last post and sorry to keep all of you waiting. We were so busy lately both in work and also preparing for our new home First of all, I would like to show some pics on the state of our renovation before CNY where all the wet work had completed. This is the entrance and the living room with the new main door's frame was installed. The TV console area and also our new window and grille (covered with newspaper as prepared for painting). Next would be our kitchen which is still our all-time favourite. This is our master bedroom. Our ID suggested to us not to plaster the wall as the original texture looks somehow special and outstanding, and he is confident that it gonna looks great after painting. We were convinced and really excited about the outcome Next would be our tiny but "cool" toilet. You might be surprise that how could this be done for a HDB flat as all the piping were concealed I would say this is what we are paying for together with all the tiny details and their superb workmanship There was nothing to show on the common room (or our study room) yet as it was just an empty room. However, our ID had proposed some interesting ideas to us. Besides, you might be wondering the orange pipes from the pics are for what? Actually those pipes are connecting to the electrical switches, creating some industrial feel

Thanks The Nifty sofa was $1690, dining table was $450, and the stool was $220, all before discount. There was a discount of 30% for all the items during our purchased. However, I'm not sure whether they still have any promotion now.

Hope all of you enjoyed your weekend. People who going through house renovation normally would spend their weekend in furniture shops or shopping for home appliances, etc. For us, we went to shopped for furnitures, looking for sofa and dining table. What about you? Few months ago, we went to Matz Form @ Jalan Besar, and we were interested in one of their sofa call "Sushi". However, it was too early to purchase at that time and it was very pricey too. So we just went to see see for fun, trying to get some idea which will suit us best in terms of design and also comfortness. Sushi from Matz Form http://www.matzform.com//about From JotterGoods http://www.starliving.com.sg/gallery/jottergoods.html From BoConcept http://www.boconcept.com/zh-sg/ After all, we still prefer fabrics with striking colour because of our simple living room design. Therefore, we settled with the Ziin Collection from Lush @ Jalan Besar (same outlet as Matz Form and More Less) We bought the 2-seater Nifty Sofa with Lime Green colour, something like the picture shown below. I think the contrast between our cement floor and the sofa will be really nice. We will see it soon. Besides, we also bought the Kaylee table as our dining table, and two stools from the same collection. http://www.ziinlife.sg Currently they are having 30% discount storewide until 28th of January. Act fast if you are looking for furnitures with similar design as I think it is really value for money.

Back to our renovation, below is the mosaic that I've mentioned earlier where the whole stretch was placed near the main door entrance, just slightly in front of the TV console. This is my wife's favourite that she had keep insisted from the very beginning, the brick tiles! The brick tiles were surrounded by the same cement that used on our living room's floor. It looks superb to us! This is our kitchen flooring with tiles. Very nice pic from wifey.

Finally the 925 Kevo had arrived, together with other items that we purchased through Amazon. Surprisingly, it was less than 2 weeks since our purchase. There were total 3 shipments where two of them were from UPS and another one from i-parcel. That's the 925 Kevo. Unfortunately, we got no time to play with it until it was mounted. Besides, we also bought Hansgrohe items from Amazon, such as the rain shower, hand shower head, kitchen faucet, basin tap, and a mixer. All these items were wrapped and partitioned nicely. My wife only g0t to read some negative reviews for buying Hangsrohe item from Amazon, after all our purchases. Most people said that the quality wasn't good as most of the materials used were plastic. However, I don't understand as will it be different if buying from other place since it is the same part from the manufacturer. Anyone could advise? Indeed, we really found most of the items that could be replace were in plastic. Just hope everything will function well after mounted. *finger crossed* Anyway the price is still attractive for buying from Amazon, compare to insani or iceprice, needless to say from local supplier which gonna cost much more.

Nowadays people normally use digital lock that comes with thumb print, password or RFID card function. However, it was kinda expensive to buy from the local dealer, so one of our friend recommended us to buy it from Qoo10 or TaoBao for the Samsung digital lock. It was really difficult to settle for a door lock as there were too many of them. Just before we made our mind for Samsung Ezon SHS-6010, our friend introduced us something new from Kwikset. The model is call 925 Kevo. Anyone heard of this before? The Samsung Ezon SHS-6010, where the design was sleek and simple. However for the 925 Kevo from Kwikset, it looks really cool!! Front: Back: How does the Kevo lock function? Number of methods are available. The ultimate way was to open the lock with your phone even though you are not holding it, interesting? When you stand right in front of the door you just need to touch on the top part of Kevo and it will start to scan and detect the eKey on your phone via Bluetooth. However, it could only compatible with Apple iPhone by now and will be coming soon for Android and Blackberry10 users. Not using an iPhone? Don't worry, the lock comes with a hob that works the same way. And lastly, you could also open the lock in the conventional way with the key provided. In addition, you could send the eKey to anyone, anywhere and anytime, when you are not around. There are 3 colours available: Learn more about Kevo here: http://www.kwikset.com/Kevo/Default.aspx We bought the 925 Kevo from Amazon with the price of US$219. I think the price is quite standard as found it also in the US Apple store selling at the same price. Our Kevo is still on the way and really can't wait to play with it.

Upon receiving the house key after Second Appointment with HDB, our renovation officially begins. It started with demolition work by hacking the floor, hacking the wall separating the living room and kitchen, and also removing all the cabinets. Some pictures after the hacking done From the entrance: Living room and Kitchen: Common room: MBR: Surprisingly it took only 3 days to hack and remove everything, as we did not expect to be so fast

Couple of weeks later, finally meet up with our ID again. This time, he was ready with the 3D drawing about the design that we have discussed earlier. Living room: Dining area: Kitchen and Laudry area: Toilet: OMG!! These were all we wanted and dreamed for our first home. Hopefully it is not for illustration purpose only, like most of the ads do

We did really consider that before. However, the additional small basin will spoil the whole concept of the house as we are trying to hide all the piping. Hopefully it won't be too pain without a basin in MBR bathroom.

I would like to share some details of the sketches he prepared. For the living room, we were dilemma on what material we shall use for flooring. Shall it be tiles? Or marble? Or laminate? Roy suddenly came out the idea of using cement which my wife all the while wish to have, but do not know this could be done. For me, I could hardly imagine how is it going to looks like, but my main responsibility is to take care of the budget. So it shouldn't be a problem if I couldn't visualized it by now. Most of the cafes now have this kind of cement flooring, I guess is the trend now. Ever since then, I will ask my wife whether our living room will looks like this when visited a cafe with cement flooring. Lol! Besides, our TV console will be hanging on the wall and Roy suggested us to use mosaic on the bottom of the TV console. Could imagine the contrast between the cement and the mosaic. For the kitchen, we will hack the wall separating the living room and the kitchen, and lengthen our living room with building a small wall. You could see that there will be brick tiles on the cooking area (insisted by my wife earlier). Further down the kitchen will be another small wall with higher height separating the washing machine and rubbish chute. On the other side of our kitchen wall, there will be some hanging cabinets. The interesting part was Roy suggested us to shift the basin from the common toilet to outside, seating beside the cabinets. This was again due to the tiny toilets we have. Together with this, he suggested us even not to have basin in our Master Room's toilet. My wife really couldn't accept this as it will be really inconvenience when you just wanna wash your hand after toilet. After a lot of persuasion by him, we gave in and accepted his idea. He win dy by saying unless you would like to have a basin used on the aircraft. For our common room, there will be a wardrobe cum bookshelves which is in open concept. As you can see, there will be a whole piece of table hanging on the wall which similar to the reference picture that we had shown to him. Since there is no basin in our toilet, so this is how it going to looks like. There will be a glass separating the WC and the shower area. The best part is there will be some shallow part for us to put our toiletries. Since our master room just allow the space for a wardrobe and a bed, therefore, there is really nothing much to show.

After few weeks from our last discussion showing Roy the reference pictures, we finally had another appointment with him. He had spent the past few weeks digesting our ideas and designs, and came out with some rough sketches for us. This is where the interesting part begins as my wife is a fussy person who very particular with the details as she used to be a web designer. He patiently explained to us all the details and the reason behind all his ideas and designs, and also taking into account what we would like to have. Besides, he knew what was necessary and what was not, advised us based on his past experiences. This proved to us that we've found the correct person to do our renovation.

After the Second Appointment with HDB, we officially took over the unit. We were shocked to see how the condition looks like. At that point of time, we were really afraid that Roy might not want to renovate for us anymore. Living room: Kitchen: Master room: Common room: Toilet: Could you imagine how dirty and messy it was? We really got no eyes to see. As I mentioned in my introduction, we couldn't be any luckier. Roy accepted the challenge to help us transform this old original 3-room to our dream house (still on the way).

During our first few appointments with Roy, we shown him some reference pictures on how we wished our home to be like. The design and concept we were looking were really simple, minimalism, and mainly light colours to make sure our house doesn't looks small (since already so tiny). During our discussion, my wife insisted that no matter how his design going to be, there must be brick tiles in the kitchen. For our common room which also our study room, we would like to have something below where the table is hanging without any legs. However, it looks like all the design and concept shown in the pictures will never happen in an old HDB flat. You might thought that we were dreaming, aren't we? Is he able to impressed us? Stay tuned.
