  1. Well, I would like to renovate my 2 toilets - one master and one guest toilets. Most likely, need to change the floor tiles as there is a need to do the waterproofing on the floor. Any idea how much it will costs?? No bath required. Currently only a stand-shower - so I think I will install a stand shower basin, toilet bow and a wash basin.

  2. Hi Guys - Thanks for the info. Well, my toilet has been renovated more than 10 years ago - The contractor came to check but found no leakage from my pipes and the downstair neighbour insists that the leakage comes from my unit and he was not done any renovation for the last 20 years and planned to go ahead to do a grouting on the ceiling to prevent the seepage. Of course, not giving me time to find out where the leakage comes from. I don´t know if the seepage can comes from other pipings.. I want to solve the program but need to find out the source and time is the factor if the neigbhour is not giving me enough time to investigate the problem

  3. Is your toilet newly renovated? If so, the water proofing by your contractor could be badly done. You can make him compensate by paying for the repair. That's what we did. We need not involve neighbor as both upstair and downstair were internal to our house

Just to share on what they do. The guy coat the shower stall floor tiles in the upstairs bathroom with a transparent stuff. Then he made 5 injections of something into the ceiling of downstairs where the seepage takes place.

So far so good and all okay for the last 9 years. However, the transparent stuff they put on the floor tiles peeled of after a few months of application. Not sure if it was meant to last or it was just to keep the water away until the injected stuff from below hardened.

The most tricky part about this problem is getting the neighbors to co-pay. Usually the upstair bochap as they are not affected. In this case, you must be a good neighbour to even care about checking how to solve the problem.

  4. Hello,

Recently, I discovered a small tear in my wallpaper. Fearing that leaving it un-repaired, someone may accidentally pull it and worsen the damage.

Is there a tube-size wallpaper glue for self-repair? I checked Homefix and they have the heavy duty ones.

Appreciate if someone here can point me at the right direction.

    Cheers

Just use any paper glue is as good.

  5. Dear All,

Just wondering if anyone has encountered the problem of water seepage in toilets between 2 floors. It seems that my toilet is leaking into the lower floor of another unit. Is there anyone who can recommend a solution and who to contact to repair the water seepage. Please help.

  6. hi justin, found your comment after having the same bad experience with the furniture shop located in Akira building opposite IMM:bangwall: The service there really suck! First they serve you with sincere face and once you signed the paper, that's the end. Would disappear right away like japanese ninja. Dont bother to call their hotline because they either pick up the call after let you wait for 5 minutes or just would not pick up. I tried a few time and a girl, called Ivy there finally pickup the call and ask me to provide a lot of info like the invoice no. contact no and etc. But after that no reply at all. Call again ask the same question again said they will contact me one or two days later. What the fish, like calling for fun wait for another week still the same.,... I had waited for the furniture to arrive over a month from the day i purchased. Now coming to Chinese new year, I already giving up to call them. Thinking of go to CASE to settle the issue. If any brother or sister here got the same experience, i advise you save you time, go strict to CASE complaint. Should not allow this kind of black shop operate inSingapore and with so many outlet somemore...

    Hi Justin,

I have the similar experience with this company. The after-service is bad. There was a tear in the sofa set which they delivered and they send only someone to sew it back. The guy who came for the repair was rude and unfriendly and demanding for the balance payment after the repair as we were not sure if it lasts. Well, ..just luck...

  7. May I ask a ignorant question? I would like to know whether the oil paintings are original painted by the artist or are they re-produced?

I am not sure if you are directing the question to me. Anyway, just to confirm that the oil paintings are painted by me. You are most welcome to look at them and you can for sure see the difference. These paintings are still available for sale till 15 Dec 2009.

  8. I read your post in the other thread. Will 1 room's space be enough to store all your furniture? :o

There are warehouses in Singapore that offer storage space to domestic households for a monthly fee. Maybe you can check those out too.

1 standard room is enough to store all my furniture. Pse PM to discuss

  9. going away soon and would like to get rid of all the oil paintings in my apartment soon. Pse check my website for the range of oil paintings, Also selling off all the furnitures/

  10. I was having dinner with my wife at Turf City, we saw a Buddha Oil Painting at one of the shops.

We decided to take a look and found that we love it at first sight cause we have been trying to find one that

suits our deco and taste. However the price was on the high side as we already spen a lot on our renovation.

The painting size is 60 inch hight X 48 inch width and is asking for S$680 after discounted price. Althought the

buddha image was "VERY VERY" fine, i still find that the price was a bit on the hight side. Since we have been to

Bangkok recently and can't found any that really suits us and also been to a few gallery locally.

I am really sadden since my wife love it a lot but is beyond my budget.

"CAN ANY ONE HELP ME" with info where can i get nice buddha image with cheap price ? Any Lubang ? :(

Usually, these paintings (Buddha Face) come from Thailand. If you are going there for a holiday, it is good to look around - so many and the price is reasonable.

suggest you go to those mattress shop and try their mattress..

    Hi,

anyone tried online ordering such as sleeppost..etc.. it is quite good and price is reasonable. I have personally tried 2 times ordering mattress and bed from them. They provide quite good service and delivery date is prompt.

  12. where to buy just the frame ...

Go to Bras Baseh Complex - there are a lot of Art shops there including Popular BookShop where they sell a range of frames or artwork materials, etc...

  13. I have a TV console (given by previous owner) that is made of laminated wood. the surface is rough and has grainy lines.

as i do not like the color, can i buy paint and paint over it?

I intend to change the color to gloss white, but i am concern abt the result?

    has any1 tried b4?

please reccomend the type of paint, or what i should look out for b4 commiting myself to DIY and change the color of the TV console.

    TKS...

Hi I have done the same for a cabinet in my living room. It was a pine wood colour and I tried to change it by coloring it with a strong orange matt colour. In the beginning I tried to paint the new colour from inside just to make sure it looks good. You can do the same by painting it from the back so that it is not so obvious if you want to repaint a different colour. Also, DIY shop can give you advice the type of paint to use. It is not so expensive, around $10 for a can and it can be used for a long time. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

  14. It was in the list of things we wanted our contractor to do. He said the floors, especially near the windows were quite badly damaged and also our new built-in wardrobes were shorter than the existing ones (below the old wardrobe the parquet was not polished at all), so have to "re-grind"/re-sand, then revarnish/repolish. It cost us $250 for one bedroom.

I wasn't there when it was being done, just went to take pix the next day when it was dry.

Previously I called two other parquet companies from the Yellow Pages: The Quarternary and The Parquet House for quotes, about $450 - $500 for two rooms (re-grind & repolish) either matt or semi-gloss. Mr Ng from The Quarternary told me that it wasn't possible to lighten my existing parquet floors if it's already stained with melamine (I wanted them lighter in colour).

Or you may wish to get in touch with my contractor?

    Hope this helps.

Hi - thanks for the info.

  15. wahh ur room's flooring so shiny after polishing...look as gd as new!

Hi to the owners of "Our Home No.3" - Can you please tell me how you refurnish the parquet flooring? We have the same type of parquet flooring for our bedrooms and wanted to revanish it especially to a darker colour. The new colour of your floor is exactly what we are looking for? Can you please please share it? I have a headache as to make it right, the last contractor did not do a good job and painted over our kitchen cabinet and wardrobe a orangy colour which looks bad. We have since stopped the work and are still thinking what to do?

  16. Anyone knows LV & Gucci is cheaper in France or Italy? I heard that France's VAT rebate is 12% while Italy is 20%, but overall after VAT rebate, which country is cheaper?

It is never cheap to buy any branded goods in Europe. The VAT here is around 19% and you don´t get the complete refund back. Also, the Euro is much higher compared to other asian currency. You get good discount for older model during the summer sales here or from warehouse sales. For winter clothings, it is very cheap here and those travelling here should buy them here.

  17. That's unfortunate - only a handful of contractors can be trusted to do the job well without us owners checking on them all the time.

We're actually thinking of doing a TV feature wall with wallpaper, 2m (w) x 2.2m (h) and were quoted $150 for the wallpaper + $200 for labour. So still thinking about it.

I know the wall-paper is quite ex in sg and we brought ours from Germany. We attached the wall-paper in our current place and it looks great. If you like, you can go to my blog under MY WORLD - to see the quality of the wall-paper used. We intend to do the same for our new place. If you like, you can DIY the wall-paper. It is very easy and we can show you when we do ours.

  18. Hi rustgal17

Nope, installation not included. We've to pay our contractor for that.

We ordered the set on Sept 6, there was a promotion banner outside Lookz then.

If you've checked the WC and they're still in good working condition, no bad stains, etc - perhaps you needn't change? Can save some money.

Initially we wanted to keep the 2 WCs and just do the tiles overlay, remove vanity tops/wash basin etc. But cos of overlay, have to remove WC first then reinstall.

On that day of removal, the plumber called to say that previous silicon/cement badly done and when he removes WCs, they will break, one also had hairline crack. So no choice, got to get new ones.

We got the keys to our new place in mid-August and 2nd appt on 28 Oct, so have to get stuff done and move out in time.

If you don't need to move in quickly, then can source around more before buying ...

I think the WC brand is Cassanova or something like that - not branded, with pancollar.

Colour of the home subjective - important thing is when you step in and feel good ...

I like going to robinson's for kitchen stuff too, think it's better than taka.

Many shops now selling fabric drum type or chandeliers. I think Balestier still has the most lighting shops in one road, then Jalan Besar. Geylang now very light shops here and there.

Good luck shopping for your new lights.

Hi, nice owners of our-home - ya, most likely we keep everything intact and do a general cleaning with one of the specialised cleaning company so that they can really get all areas cleaned. After we received the keys from the first owner, I got a contractor to do the painting of all the ceiling walls and also to varnish the floor and cabinets, etc but the contractor did a rather bad job with the painting and the varnishing of all the wooden doors, they simply put the varnish over the wooden door without even sanding off some of the stain, etc. We were in Singapore only a week to receive the keys and with the 3 days painting job, it ends up rather sour. Anyway, we intend to attach wall-papers for all the walls in the apartment as we love wall-papers.
