  1. Thanks JohnB! I love your moodboard (grey is my favorite color!) and cant wait to see how your place will look like.

So we went furniture browsing recently, why are furniture so expensive! Seriously tempted to get from Taobao hah, saw so many lovely pieces online at a fraction of the cost but a bit apprehensive of the quality

Here are some pieces that we are considering

    Dining Room Table

Both are from Journey East. We love everything from this place but soooo expensive! The second table is really unique but not sure if it would be hard to find chairs to go with? The bench + stools that go with this table are way too expensive.

More affordable version from Commune. I love the bench that goes with this table. So..table 1, 2 or 3?

Bed frame from ethnicraft. I like that the headboard can act as 'side tables'. Although we are also exploring the option of a custom-made frame as it may be cheaper

Sideboard from Mountain teak (the bigger one behind).

I love this piece, esp the sliding mesh doors! Thinking of getting a sideboard for the living room to display alcohol, glasses etc.

lastly, study desk from Journey east. Another gorgeous but expensive piece.

We are waiting to see if our ID can get us discounts before we make any big decisions; also browsing taobao/tmall fanatically :)

P.S. This is Charm, mostly blogging from the hubby's account

We were initially looking at some of your selected pieces as well! The burger bed, tv console from mountain teak and commune bench. Thought the bench is really unique too, as compared to the more reasonably priced ones in Sg. So will opt for table 3 too :good:

  2. This looks like a great dressing 'table'! :good:

Interesting you chose to use the common bathroom instead of the nearer MBR one. We are just going to use one bathroom as much as possible too :sport-smiley-018:

Have chatted with the tap seller you recommended, he really sells alot of other products! See until my eyes popped! Hahah..thanks for sharing!

  3. my fridge is actually the smaller of the 2 availabe as i dont have much space in the kitchen too. its just nice for 2 pax.. haha. the glass surface was what attracted us to it, but can attract fingerprints that we need to wipe off.

Oh yes the bigger one is the 550L..very nice...on sale now at rakuten.. :notti: too bad I think it will overwhelm most bto kitchen these days :(

  4. hi! i am nt sure if there is a brand but i bought this at Takashimaya level 2 (the pots and pans area)

its quite handy and will whistle when the water is boiled.

i think its not zebra brand. haha probably doesnt have any brand. i got it from taka level 2 and they have it in a few colors that are muted and looks matte.

for the fruit flies, they have somewhat disappeared.. at first it was kind of exasperating having to clean them out everyday but we found out from our neighbours that they have had the same issues. i had the hitachi service man come over and there was no issues with the fridge.. he said it was likely to be due to the fact that it was a new neighbourhood and naturally the env was dirty with all the rubbish and construction. he added that once more people moved in the problem would likely go away. and it appears to be so! so its probably not the fridge hehe.

Oh really? I have been eyeing the zebra whistling kettle one for the time and it really looks similar!

Glad to hear that the fruit flies probably not the fridge's issue. Loving this model's 450L capacity! But as it is quite deep, hubby has been persuading me to get a newer but smaller model at 395L so that it doesn't 'poke' out from the cabinet as much... :~

  5. Wah appreciate the reviews on lightings! Getting them from taobao too :good:

Btw care to share how much was the supreme laminates? I'm probably getting mine from woodculture - Berry Alloc since their riveria range appears to be more water resistant. But quite ex of coz..checking if there are other options.

  6. Ma5quer, looks matter to me as I need the space in the bs to act as my waredrobe. Hehe...

I thought ikea items are durable as the wall mounted shelves that I used for a couple of years

    Ahh I see..

If ikea works for you then would think their prices are hard to beat! I see some people in renotalk shipping furniture pieces from Taobao though..maybe you can try if you are willing to take some risk?

  7. Hoping to finalise my flat design by then so I can start getting lightings, chairs, taps, lots of (& some probably unnecessary) kitchen accessories and maybe even ceramic ware! I have a thing for buying containers & jars, not knowing what to put in them! Hahah.. end up I will buy more things to fill them! :bleah:

This will be my first purchase by sea freight. Most probably will try out Amcon as peeka rates seem quite high? Am abit concerned if things will start to go haywire since volume of transactions is expected to be really high that period. Oh well, worth a shot if there are good deals! :thumbs up:

  8. Thanks! Good to hear that they are ok! The one with the crack is indeed unfortunate..

Have been looking through TB for some time and those so called branded ones at lower prices are probably knock offs. A tell-tale sign is that the same looking taps/shower mixtures are all branded differently (kohler, grohe and even jomoo)!

I actually went to the extent of going to these brands' china website to match the models! Concluded that even some highly priced items by tmall sellers are questionable :fire:

In the end zoom in to Moen taps. Since it's a US brand, they have some reviews on amazon and the fittings are catered to chinese market, so probably won't need converter/adapter like those bought from amazon. Oh well, wish me luck! ;)

  9. The kettle looks like the Zebra one that I'm eyeing, just not sure if it comes in this colour.

Anyway, what a lovely looking home (all the accessories, shoes etc included :P )! Am going for similar theme, rustic-woody-industrial feel! Hope it turns out well!

Btw, wondering if you managed to solve/investigate the fruit fly issue? I'm getting the same model fridge from Hitachi! The thing abt Jap brands is that it's super thick and if that is not bad enough, they recommend a 10cm gap behind fridge for ventilation! Haiz but I really like this spacious model. Can already imagine storing all my what-nots in it!

  10. Wah you have been shopping! Hahah.. your comment on the pull-out larder cracks me up...the men better don't interfere with our kitchen area! :sport-smiley-003:

Looking forward to your reviews on the items! Am looking to get stuff too and I have got >60 potential items in my Taobao cart liao! :notti:

Will you be going for the 11 Nov Tmall sales to get more stuff? Saw the advisory on Peeka, sounds like a really major event!

  11. I am actually the one who demanded for the black WC as I wanted a classy black and red theme for the toilet. I don't think the tiles will make a big difference to the bathroom size cos our bathroom is already pathetically small. Haha! My MBR bathroom did not have the fugly window above the toilet bowl but it was exactly like how my ID had predicted the window to be. There was a big hooha about the designer of the project being stupiak for not doing it that way though.. as the showerhead is being placed in the opp side of the WC and we can't do a shower screen only as this will block the entrance. We will have to have a full swing glass door and this is how I could still have my big storage mirror there.

I am getting my keys in nov too! Just that it is early nov~ Hope to see you start up your t-blog soon so that we can all exchange reno tips. :D

You managed to get your black WC already? Doesn't seem to have many options in the market?

Hahaha.. maybe the designer did sliding shower screen for his own and expected everyone else to follow suit. I dunno who is more stupiak though..the one who design it or the one that approves it

Will start my blog when I firm up the design! Still making quite a no of changes :sport-smiley-004:

  12. No prob with sharing! We are eyeing suar table from arthur zaaro. They have a tiered pricing dependent on the length. They recently increased their prices in sep so -it cost ard $3K + for a 1.7-1.8m table with black metal legs (this is additional charge)? There appears to be lower cost options around but as we are not experts in sussing out wood quality, thought would be better to go with a more reputable firm.

Yah for bathrooms, already giving up the darker tiles option. It's just that sitting on the WC, turn right and the cabinet is in your face and you can't turn left coz will hit the shower screen...that feeling is....indescribable..

And sure, will start a blog when design is firmed up! I'm still at the fickle mind stage :sport-smiley-018:

  13. Hi ma5quer, these are originally from Crate and Barrel. I believe they still sell these two pieces. The reason why I custom made them is because I really like the designs but the dimension cannot work for me. The first table is of a study table size but I am planning to use it for dining. The coffee table is too short horizontally for my sofa/living room. My sofa is 3m and this is only around 1.5m if i am not wrong.

If what crate and barrel is selling works for you in terms of dimension, you should consider getting from them instead because it is slightly more expensive to custom order them.

I got a carpenter from Malaysia to do it for me. He owns a wood factory. If you are keen I can pass you the contact ^^

Honestly, if given a choice I would choose new flats. Nowadays, the btos are very pretty.. like condo in fact. Those with full length windows especially. Smaller area means less area to renovate. I am someone happy living in a studio so I guess spacious living isnt as tempting for me as for others ;)

Cleaning up is easier for a smaller area too!

Hey thanks for sharing! Will probably drop by C&B to take a look. Am looking for alternatives to a suar wood dining table which we are eyeing but still trying to convince ourselves to pay that amount!

As for the btos, think it's really dependent which project you go for. I wouldn't term mine as pretty for sure...more like a failed attempt at looking like premium..muahaha. I'm also an advocate of smaller spaces (less areas to clean!) but some tight spaces really get to you at times..especially now when I'm looking at my ID's proposed layout, with the WC flanked by vanity cabinet & half shower screen on the sides..leaving only 600-700mm space for WC area.. imagine feeling claustrophobic while doing business...

Loving your 3Ds btw! Looking forward to see the final product! Have a smooth reno journey! :good:

  14. Black WC!! My ID used black in his 3D too and I told him a black one will prob provide us with the excuse of not having to clean as often coz can't see

So long as you are prepared that darker tiles makes the area looks smaller, a dark bathroom looks cool & posh! Had initially considered dark tiles for master bathroom too but am reconsidering after seeing an actual application in a friend's place. Makes it look really tiny!

And since your layout is pretty similar to mine..not too sure if you have this big fugly window above toilet bowl in MBR toilet? Checked my floorplan again and yours shouldn't have this issue coz HDB should have included it in floorplan if there is one. It's to provide access to the aircon ledge. Mine has it...so big mirror is out :(

When are you getting your keys? I'm waiting for mine by end nov!

  15. I second looneygas's advice on ikea shelves.. not really durable even for normal usage (based on my family's and own unfortunate experiences  ).

Not sure if $2K shelves are worthwhile in bomb shelter since it's largely a hidden spot? Have planned to go for those metal racks offered by companies such as sim win liang. Seems more durable for heavy stuff too if looks isn't a major concern.
