  1. Interesting read below.. Not sure how many Renotalkers here have actually read this... ;)

I'm not sure how many Renotalkers here have actually read this #allsingaporestuff article that has been doing rounds on Facebook, allegedly about a renovation conman named Loy Chuang Yee, director of renovation company Decor Creative Construction Pte Ltd... And I say 'allegedly' although the person who shared his experience on #allsingaporestuff seems to be genuine.. He even has a police report to show for it! :jawdrop: Apparently this renovation conman cheated 2 families of a staggering SGD50,000... Really shocking and sad..

Anyway I'm sharing it here for all to read and to help spread awareness in our Renotalk community of such despicable scum... And hope by doing so that many new Renotalkers can avoid unnecessary heartache during what should be a happy renovation journey for them!! :) For more information you can access the actual news site by clicking here.

    @ALPHAEV7 RINNAI OVEN CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Just a while back on 24th Sep, 4.41PM, fellow Renotalker @alphaev7 issued an innocent challenge to me that I brought up to my dearest CFO... And that's where it all started... Actually the poor fella only posted 'hi leonjenna, What Oven are you using? Is it the Rinnai one? How is it?". Wahahahaha... :D

Ok you know what, I think for once I will really let the pictures speak for themselves... ;)

As I mentioned before, if the taste of the food is in any way an indicator of how good the oven is, I have to say this is one SUPER DELICIOUS OVEN!!! :dribble: Even the chicken breast meat was moist and wahhhhh.. I really wish I can eat it again soon. *SLURP* ;)

CLOSE UP OF #GRAFUNKT CIRCUS DISH USED AS PLANTERS

    Anyway that's all for today!!

The haze seems to be back with a vengence these few days, so reminder to wear your N95 mask once the 24-hr PSI reading hits 100 and above & hydrate yourself well! Take care everyone!

    Hi Leon!

Thanks for accepting the "challenge" and making delicious looking meal! All i asked for was the model number and how much you go it for. But i looked on Rinnai's page based on your picture and saw that it was the RBO-7MSO. Was wondering why didn't you choose the RBO-85ETIX?

Thanks for the effort! My place is 80% done up now and currently looking for home appliances.

  2. Hi guys,

I bought 2 units of WC (toilet bowl) with 150mm (6") S-Trap for my new resale place. It came together with my furniture shipment from Taobao. It is from TMall manufacturer's flagship store so it is extremely well made. I have opened up to inspect and both arrived in pristine condition.

But after putting up the tiles for the toilet, the distance from the wall to my drainage hole shrunk to 100mm (4"), therefore i was not able to use the WC for my house. I hope someone else could benefit from this two WC for their new home that has a 150mm (6") wall to drainage hole distance.

I opted for the UREA soft-close covers as well. Below are some pictures and dimensions.

They came packed in the packing as per below:

    MhJYfhl.png

Looking to just recoup my cost of item and freight. Reason i got from TMall is because a similar Baron W888or Arino Caprio WC is about S$350-$390 and both are also made in China. Some is equipped with PP cover which is not as durable.

Self collection at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

Selling for S$160/ea. If you take both i will let go at S$150/ea.

  4. Have been using the joven jh50 in my house to supply hot water to 3 bathrooms and 2 kitchen sinks since 2001. No problem with heating and water pressure, but it recently started tripping the mains. I figured since I've used it for 13 years it doesn't make sense for me to get it repaired, so I replaced it with a new set.

Bought the new model jh50he from Everjoin for $295, am happy with it so far.

So safe to say that if i have two bathrooms only, JH 35 HE should suffice?

  5. Hi StyloCool,

Your place looks fabulous. I applaud the daring and bold designs and kudos to your designer.

I guess seeing the end results would be extremely satisfying. Im embarking on my renovation now and some parts your place's design has been inspiring. My budget is smaller, so i'm making the best out of my boundaries.

For example, the living room i initially wanted to have beams going across the ceiling, but fengshui suggested that beams are not ideal. The decisions to go with design and/or fengshui :(

    More pics from you!

    Considerations/ Discoveries/ Rants/ Advice:

Ok I know the header says “QUARTZ” but do curb your enthusiasm… I know I had to. Haha… :P The actual product finish differed a bit from what you see in the photo.. The colour is not as white as what is depicted on the website, and the material feels more like some kind of cultured quartz.. :( Anyway still a reliable product for heavy duty use!! Moving on!

  7. For those interested to read through my entire renovation journey but don't wish to go through the full 19 pages with lots of requests for PMs, I'm finally almost done transferring my tips and posts to my personal blog, plus written a few additional posts about renovation there that is not in this t-blog.

Can understand everyone's pain coz I went through the "research" part too. Haha. Have read through so many t-blogs when I was researching that I became blurry eyed. So might be easier if you guys go directly to www.guojiawen.com and choose the tags - Dream Home / Renovation :) All the relevant posts will show up there.

Am almost done with the renovation part... and will be moving on to blog more about the furnishing and decoration, and also about my taobao purchases. All $2000+ worth of them. My hubby nearly fainted when I told him how much I spent!

    Thanks Jiawen!

Your blog has been quite useful. Thanks for the effort in sharing information.

How's the Sharp TV? For the size it's really worth the money, but i have not really seen the picture quality before.

  8. Hahaha my sister was telling me that nowadays she don’t even need to talk to me about my house renovation anymore because she can just read everything right off my blog here at Renotalk… Wahahaha… :notti:

Anyway, today’s update will be on my CEILING FAN PURCHASES FROM JOHOR BAHRU!!!

My buddies #MrPW and #MrMuscleDF recommended me to buy my ceiling fans from this store in JB… As I have mentioned before (I think I have), CFO & I have decided to install ceiling fans for our living/dining area & for all 3 bedrooms.. So we’re going to have 4 ceiling fans in total. :P

OK so here’s the deal: I heard from my buddies that the ceiling fans in JB are so much cheaper that they can be up to as much as 50% savings off the price you get in Singapore due to the favourable exchange rate & lower cost of living in JB. This was and still is too good a deal to miss. Till then, CFO & I hardly ever go into Malaysia for anything; because we are so “sua-ku”, gullible and scared. We were too frightened by all the robbery/bribery stories that we heard, and what’s more, you are talking about venturing into an unfamiliar territory compounded by the fact that we have next-to-no grasp of Behasa Melayu… :jawdrop: *eerie music in the background*

Oh well, I exaggerate. (But eh we really didn’t enter Malaysia that often one lei.)

#MrMuscleDF was nice enough to drive CFO & I in during a weekend (thank you to #MrsMuscleDF also for letting us have your hubby for the whole day HAHA. :P) to allay some of our fears and to give us an orientation somewhat… We spent about close to 1.5 hours at the shop choosing and conversing with #CalvinTan & #Edgar about suitable designs... :) We were assisted by a nice young man called #Yan.. Recommend readers to go and ask for him if you do decide to pop by and take a look... hehe.. :)

ADVICE FOR WOULD-BE JOHOR BAHRU VENTURISTS & BUYERS:

    - Bring enough ringgit; because they apparently don’t take credit cards,

    - SGD150 tax-free limit per person; if you are in JB for less than 24 hours. (e.g. if you have 4 people going in & out from JB to buy fans, you can purchase goods (no poultry hor) to a consolidated and maximum cost of SGD600 tax-free!!)

    - Find out your maximum-allowed fan diameter & preferred colour from your ID first before you go in, so as to avoid having to pay roaming charges.

    - Fan models sold in Malaysia are slightly different from those sold in Singapore. (e.g. You can get 48” KDK baby fans in Singapore, but the KDK Baby fans in JB only go up to 44”)

    - Bring trolleys, or lorries, or cars, or muscle-men… ANYTHING that will help you heave those heavy-donkey fans WILL BE MUCH NEEDED. Wahahaha..

In total, we bought a total of 6 ceiling fans (bought 2 for my parents’ house cause the old ones were spoiling :()… Exact ceiling fan models, pictures and price comparisons are duly stated below, ENJOY EVERYBODY!!! :yamseng:

TAMPOI LIGHTING CENTRE SHOP FRONT (despite the lack of the word 'fan' in their shop name, they. do. sell. fans.) :P

1x white ELMARK AERONAMICS 56" CEILING FAN & 3x white KDK K11Z1 44" BABY FANS – Can't wait for them to be installed!! Elmark fan for the living/dining area & the other 3 KDK baby fans for all the bedrooms...

    gallery_54206_413_369937.jpg

    - Elmark Aeronamics 56" Ceiling Fan bought for SGD480 in JB compared to Singapore retailing at SGD600

    - KDK 44" Baby Fan bought in JB for SGD140 each. This fan model is not available in Singapore, with the closest being the 48" KDK R48SP retailing in Singapore at SGD288. A little more than twice the price, for a meagre 4" more... I will take my 44" baby fan anytime... :PYeah Baby. (pun totally intended)

SHOP ELMARK FAN IN ACTION – I had to exercise my ninja-esque reflexes to capture this rare footage of this grey Elmark fan within the shop because they apparently don't allow photos in there. Kenna scolded by one of the more senior employees. Hahahahaha... :)

    gallery_54206_413_316858.jpg

GREY KDK V60WK 60” CEILING FAN FOR PARENTS – Installed in parents’ living room

    gallery_54206_413_9669.jpg

    - Costs SGD208 in JB compared to Singapore retailing at SGD563

SILVER KDK K11Z1 44” CEILING BABY FAN FOR PARENTS - Installed in parents’ study room

    gallery_54206_413_468765.jpg

    - Same model as what I got for my bedrooms... Bought in JB for SGD140 each, not retailing in Singapore.

CFO & I are indeed blessed to have friends like #MrMuscleDF and #MrPW to bring us into JB for this kind of lobang... I promised to share good lobangs here and in my opinion, this will help to reduce the tension on those purse strings of ours... CFO & I probably saved about SGD560 from ceiling fan purchases, which would go a long way... :thumbs up:

    OH WELL, IT'S LATE.

HAVE A GOOD & PRODUCTIVE MONDAY TOMORROW GUYS!!!

LET MY OPTIMISM FOR THE COMING WEEK INFECT YOU ALL!! CHEERIO! :dancingqueen:

    hey leon,

what is the min drop down length of the Elmark Aeronamics you bought? Did u happen to ask about the back fan behind it? Think it's a Aeratron E503.

  9. hijack ur post =p, for me i find that heating up of water will took about 10min or lesser (did not measure but quite long... i could have finish wetting my head and shampoo while waiting for it to become hot) You can leave the electrical power on as the heater will only start to heat up when it detect water running through (when you on the tap) similar to electrical heater....

    Hi DarkWingZ,

Thank for your feedback. That means after the first time someone turn on the tap (water running) the heater will start to heat up.

So if i got back from work with the gas heater on "standby", how long would i need to wait to have hot water when i start to shower?

  10. Hi there,

Decided to use gas heater for the savings it will bring.. And we bought the granite sink as the mister cannot stand metal / scrapping sound against stainless steel :)

    Hey babe,

I see. The savings are substantial compared to electrical water heaters? Just wondering if it takes long time to heat up water and if you have to switch it off all the time, like eletrical heaters.

Am considering this for my place as i have no experience with gas heaters at all. Thanks!

  11. Hi there, thanks for sharing your house renovation tips with us. Much appreciated Sharon.

Im interested to know how much are the wood tiles you used in your living room and also the HERF from Evorich in your bedrooms. Are you able to share the costs? Also any surface prep costings.

How does the wood tiles feel? Just like any tiles yes?

    Thanks!
