  1. It is nearly 10 weeks since I chose my ID and 7 weeks since we started the reno journey together.

I must say I am one of the lucky ones to have a very smooth, trouble-less renovation journey so far. Not that there were no trouble at all - there were challenges, design issues and sometimes work pace etc., But all these were resolved timely and in an acceptable fashion without any major hiccups.

I released the payments on-time and my ID delivered all the work on time & continues to deliver the work on time and more importantly on quality. He is such a friendly, young bloke you will feel extremely comfortable dealing with.

He surprised me quite a few times on :

    - his ingenuity in solving difficult issues,

    - flexibility: whenever I changed from the original design or asked for additions, he would think hard and give me a good solution

    - approachability: he would readily come down and discuss the issues in-person. not to speak of being in constant touch over whatspp.

    - honestness: he would also tell you in advance that he is going to be busy for a few days with other projects / client meetings. I really appreciated it; because I believe that I am not his only customer.

Well folks, I am in the last leg of my renovation journey. If you like to read my reno story, click on the t-blog below.

I am happy to recommend my ID, if any of you are interested.

  2. We have a nice space for Altar and Prayer.

:yeah: Notice the cute little triangle holes. These are to fit small bells. Because bell sound is auspicious and drive away evil.

I asked my ID to make the cute little triangle holes to fit small bells. Initially he was :bangwall:cannot make so small holes leh and I was :help:. Later when I explained he became :jawdrop:. Then reluctantly he agreed  . Now he is :yeah: .

  5. Recd 6 quotes from id and contractors. .. what a headache to compare them.

appreciate if you guys would help to ask e following qns:

    1) is the color of internal pvc of the cabinet important? The highest quote included the internal color pvc, while the rest is just internal white pvc.

    2) painting service is so expensive. . I thought of outsourced it to painting contractor. What do you guys think?

    3) I tried to ask for discount from ids... the percentage they give is not alot. What is your experience

    Hi,

Yes, it is a big chore to compare quotations. It gets even more complicated as the IDs have their own style of quotations. Some quote a standard package and then add-on the additional items. Others go by item by item as per your requirement. In any case, take time to review - mark the odd ones out and ask questions.

Feel free to mark up the whole quote in pencil and ask questions either in-person or in email. Ask them to respond for each of your quotation.

Internal color PVC - is a choice you can make. I went for internal colored PVC for my exposed areas like display cabinet, altar, glass shelf.Rest of the closed areas I went with white.

Some people prefer internal colored PVC for wardrobes whereas for kitchen most people go for whites.

Painting: Is a standard affair. The cost difference usually is the choice of colors. If you choose more number of colors, then the cost would go up. Can you share what's your quote for painting service. I paid roughly 2K for 5 Room including painting for door frames, doors and exposed Pipes.

Discounts: reserve for the last. First go item by item, negotiate and then ask for discount later. Just from my experience..

    Goo luck!

  6. Hi guys, I've already cleared my inbox, you may PM me if you require any information :)

Anyway last weekend Contractor J came down with his competent workers to touch up the final stuff. As mentioned previously, the tiler forgot to leave two holes in the brick wall box up when he was tiling it previously thus his worker suggested to do another box up when the TV is mounted.

So anyway last week when hubby's UHD 4K 55" SMART TV arrived, when LG's worker saw our brick wall, he refused to mount the TV for us even though it was included because he said that previously he tried mounting TVs on other customer's brick walls and they all cracked at the surrounding tiles so he doesn't want to take the risk. After hearing that, hubby and I was also very worried cause we didnt want to spoil the brick wall so we told him to just put the TV stand on the console. After informing Contractor J about this, he said that he is 100% confident he will not crack any brick or grouting so he told me to let him mount our TV. He mentioned that the only reason why the bricks will crack is because the driller is not skilled enough. On Sat when he came, Contractor J personally came down specially just to do the drilling for us and also showed his workers how it is done. He's a very patient and kind contractor after I saw him teaching his workers while he was doing it. Not only did he not crack my brick walls at all, the mounting of the TV bracket's drill hole is so sharp and clean I was so so pleased!

After he mounted the TV, he proceeded to take out a gold colour equipment and told us instead of boxing up the wires, he bought this gold drill equipment (couple hundreds of dollars he mentioned) just specially for us so that the brick wall will be neat without any wires pertruding out. After he started drilling the brick wall to conceal my wires, I was SO IMPRESSED.

Managed to snap afew shots how he did it (you can see the metal piece on top is the brackets for the TV)

Contractor J in action - I noticed throughout all the renovation, he would personally do some of the installation which is harder to do or complicated.

I CALL THIS THE SUPER GOLDEN DRILL!! SO CLEAN AND NEAT!!! SUCH SLEEK CUT!

Wide enough to put your hands through to take the wires too! So one hole on top is for the wires to go in from the TV and the other hole below is for the wires to come out and go into my TV console so that it is 100% concealed! So tidy!! :thumbs up: :thumbs up:

TADAH! Hubby's 100% concealed wall mounted TV. No unsightly wires at all - this is one of the happiest moments of hubby's life HAHAHA!!

Superb! What a beautiful color contract - black over white? Impeccable.

  7. Kitchen

Notice that area cut for stove is RIGHT UNDER the switch? When I highlight to my contractor, he say the switch can be relocate away, but will need additional cost as the tiles need to touchup ect. But I told him that it's not right as from the start we already agreed that the stove will not be in that position. It should only start after the switch. He agreed to shift stove more to the right.

Very interested in the digital lock. Saw this promotion online. Anyone using this or any digital lock? Is it good?
