  1. @rainbow1979 You can consider this type of door I chanced upon when I was out looking and researching doors - only 1 lock required. http://www.doctordoors.com.sg/combi-door.html But the price is in the 2k range for this cuz it's still relatively new, I think. With a digital lock added on, likely to hit 3... The one with the cat grilles is currently on my wishlist haha. But having gone over budget for my reno, I'm holding off the door and grilles change for the time being...
  2. They also chipped my kitchen backsplash tile while they were at it... (See white dot near the corner of the 2nd tile from the bottom) Headache lah, his subcons... Haha.

  4. Big window is a good thing - that means you have proper ventilation in the bathroom - no strange smells will linger lol... Folks, your opinions please! Just came back from my place and I found this (small chip in my laminate) under the kitchen countertop which wasn't there previously. (They removed the countertop this week to replace a cracked tile on the side wall, think the workers broke it in the process) Should I mark it out as a defect for the ID? (And risk my ID's wrath)

  6. Is that a shot of your actual bathroom, mmoh!? Not bad leh! I like the grey tiles that they used. Simple and clean. Still got a ledge for you to put stuff, so handy! Nice! Oh wait... Cannot choose OCS means no tiles then? Sorry, a bit of a hick when it comes to bto. Just ignore my initial question please lol.
  7. @BunniBoi Not my personal opinion but a friend of mine put forth a valid point previously when we were chatting - optional components helps you lessen cash outlay for renovations cuz you can pay with CPF. Apparently, cost is also lower than having it done by external contractors? (That's just hearsay though) @rainbow1979 Thanks for the photos! Aww man. Wish you guys were around when my reno started... Reiterating 2Roomer's point on HDB having strict rules about bathtubs, I do actually recall reading somewhere that you'll need to apply for a permit to install a bathtub and also something about HDB having restrictions on the weight per m2, to ensure the integrity of the floor etc. Found the link! http://www.homeanddecor.com.sg/blogs/bathroom-reno-installing-bathtub-your-hdb-flat
  8. Wow, that's nice of HDB then! You'll get a ready made cabinet, albeit a little lacking in depth, but at least there's no need to fork out extra... @mmoh You are an absolute fount of information! Complete with pictures to boot! You've done so much homework already. Very well-prepared for your soon-to-come flat I have to say!
  9. Oh! You mean it comes in an entire cabinet in the newer flats nowadays? Not just a small box on the wall somewhere?
  10. Yes, it is! I had such grand plans for the Ikea Stolmen pole system....
  11. Folks, I'm curious - what's in this electrical cabinet? Izzit that circuit box thingie with all the main switches for electricity? The one you check out if the electricity at home trips?
  12. Lol it's frosted glass! You'll only see vague shapes... Besides, most of us will be living alone, I presume? Nobody around to see haha.
  13. On the Taobao front, I've actually just made my first big purchase (Japanese shoji doors) on there lol. Now waiting for it to arrive at the 65daigou warehouse... Had a bit of a hiccup on delivery cuz I chose to order and communicate with the seller myself. On hindsight, it might be worth it to pay the 8% buyer commission after all!
  14. @rainbow1979 Here you go - http://pinterest.com/pin/A2MiNgAQgIoHoawiJpQAAAA I've done a fair amount of research on wardrobe planning cuz I've a lot of clothes myself lol.
  15. I believe there's a 3-year no-hacking rule for new bto flats - can overlay tho!
  16. Wow, hello everyone! This thread is brimming with activity all of a sudden! All the 2-roomers reporting in one by one, haha. @rainbow1979 Your WIW dreams are not entirely lost! Can consider something like this I spotted on Pinterest: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-azVIgLyYYV0/UHWPfHVvmLI/AAAAAAAAIi0/Xx-MPDmr-B4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2012-10-09+at+10.31.56+PM.png There was another one where they build a partition wall right behind where your bed is placed so your bed is leaning against a wall (if you've fengshui concerns like what mmoh mentioned) but yet still have a nice division of space. Will update again when I dig it out from all my pins lol.
  17. Folks, a Murphy bed post from Spaceman came as a sponsored link on my FB news feed haha. Not sure if yall have seen it but can check it out for those who are interested. https://m.facebook.com/spacemanstore
  18. Here's some reference sites that contributed to my decision-making for sanitary ware and electrical appliances! https://app.pub.gov.sg/WELSSP/ListOfProducts.aspx https://e-services.nea.gov.sg/els/Pages/Search/PublicSearchProduct.aspx Any bit of cost-saving is always a good thing, haha. Hope it helps!
  19. Ohhh! Was it the delivery guys' fault!? If you can get a new one, then even better! Haha. That's great news.
  20. I got a 9" one so I should (hopefully) be able to flip it up sideways to lean against the wall etc. I only intend to put stuff that I'll hardly get to anyways... Like my winter wear and maybe spare towels/pillows/sheets etc. Things that I'll only look thru on a yearly basis lol. (I have a lot of winter wear for someone living in a country with tropical weather, surprisingly!) @varying Luckily it's at the back... As long as it works then I guess still as good as new.
  21. @mmoh The platform is 3.35k... My original quote was 2.9k for all top-open storage but the price went up when my hands (+ brain) got itchy and came up with this design (2 rows of top-open and 1 row of front-open). It's quite big though - it's about the size of 2 queen sized mattresses side by side. I'm actually more worried about household pests hiding within the finger grooves so I'll be vacuuming it weekly for sure lol. GEH! Any damage to the floor or the fridge!? I've a new hiccup to 'report' too lol. One of the kitchen wall tiles next to my kitchen cabinet just cracked (no idea why). ID is going to remove the counter top and then get the tilers to replace that 1 cracked piece. Btw, what brand of TV dya get? I'm researching TVs at the moment hahaha.
  22. For mine, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...almost! Lol. Carpentry has finally been completed. (Not entirely up to expectations and still pending some fixes tho) Next up (in order): - Plumber (3rd round) - Electrician (3rd round) - Flooring (parquet revarnish) - Glassworks (2nd round) - Painting (touch-ups) And then it'll be done. Estimating completion to be around end of July thereabouts.
  23. Haha, to be fair - I don't dislike my ID enough to be a detractor lah... Even when we have disagreements, the final outcome usually falls in my favour (as in he will agree to fix the issues for me in the end). So I have complaints here and there but I think it could be just me. His tilers had excellent workmanship but the carpenters' leave much to be desired. If you asked me, I would still recommend him... Just not his carpenter lol.
  24. Totally feel you, varying! (>_<) If it's my house, I can still take the left-it-hanging part, but having it running overnight is a big no-no. Ask your ID to pay for your utilities bills this month! I have a lot of minor (and some major) complaints about my ID's subcons as well. If I started, I'm not sure when I'll be able to stop. The glass door guys once left my door completely unlocked, only closing the wooden door. It was a good thing I went up that night to check on their work and chanced upon it! Everytime I meet my friends, I have a new 'situation' to report lol. My mum says it could be cuz I'm 'yim chim'.
  25. Or speak to the CS on live chat before placing the order which was what I did. I acted blur and asked... "Why doesn't my order reflect free shipping? It's within the weight limit..." (but not within the dimensions limit lol) The CSO gave me the go ahead to order and then he edited my order for me to 'waive' shipping by splitting the cost of the sink between the price + shipping. So I got an early Christmas present from Amazon last year!
