  1. MORE LOOTS! SINKS:

    MONIC-SQM-680-510x510.jpg

Went with low-maintenance instead. Undermounted stainless steel single bowl. Wanted a double bowl but really didn't want to compromise any more of my kitchen space (since it is very very tiny).

This is recommended by Vincent from Hong Liang, I trust him so I took it. It's a Monic SQM680 sink, apparently used in many condos in Singapore but unfortunately seems to be made in Korea. :bleah: Only found out when I got home, I just assumed it was MIC. Yes, I really don't want any Korean things in my home.

Erm. Can I ask whats wrong w made in Korea? Is it a personal preference thing or isit quality not good?

I also bought a monic sink. But its w tempered glass rim.

  2. Amazing we 3 brought the same washing machine lol :)

Haha. Since we are talking abt washing machine. I got some questions actually.

I was told that front load washer and dryee usually easier to spoil. But because of space and cost constraint, we got 2in1. How true is it anyone know?

I have always been using top load washing machine. They got this tumble dry feature. Lol. Does front load washing machine also got same feature? Or is this dryer feature? Lol.

Sorry. I nv use dryer before so im not sure what it does. My wife insisted.

  3. One thing to note if you keep the door but change the gate and the gate to be install with digital lock.

Take into consideration the position of main door knob/handle and where your gate digital lock will be.

In some cases, there is not enough space in between to mount the digital lock, one solution is to reverse the opening of the gate.

ie. Change from opening "left to right" to "right to left" or vice versa.

Lol. Bro. U are really very thoughtful leh.

My contractor also asked me whether I intend to install electronic lock. Thn explain to me the same thing u said. Lol

  4. My hubby is a gross Chelsea fan hahaha!!!

Anyway, we always buy lunch and drinks for him... But I might bao too.

He was very ok with us wanting to change the kerb when my husband talked to him this morning. Think he also think quite ugly LOL. Maybe he didn't think the inside of the HDB tile so ugly one.

Ok la show you all pic: (I've taken it as a personal failure wtf haha)

    2wp2s9c.jpg

Hahaha. I think matter of personal preference. I quite like ur kerb esp the corner. Lol.

  5. Came across this reply from someone else,

(My Silgranite sink has been in two years now and I would do it again. I have the black.

Still, I don't think you can go wrong with a good heavy-gauge stainless steel sink. it comes down to what do you associate with a nice sink? When you envision a half hour peeling potatoes and carrots for a big pot of soup, where do you see yourself standing?

I had negative associations with stainless between my first job in fast food and it's what you see in hospitals and travel trailers (my grandparents would take us camping). So, stainless just didn't fit into my vision of a home kitchen. But again, that's my vision. What's yours?)

Somehow i felt the same way.

I was also very inclined to get granite kitchen sink and did some reading when I was looking for a kitchen sink. Some users mentioned white glaze or hazing after use which is difficult to/cannot be wash off. But hoe kee salesman all say wont.

End up we got stainless steel sink with black tempered glass rimming. Gave up looking for granite sink as we couldnt find one that fits our dimensions with a suitable design.

  6. lol. Thanks, cause it fits into my design colour and theme :) And I really like Samsung washing machine, been using that since like more than 15 years and its never fail me although its the top load type.. First time trying out the front load type.. haha frontload type washing machine like so cool :)

Haha. I also got the same model of washing machine. Wonder if mrbytes got any review on this washing machine.

Got a noob qn to ask abt washing machine. Isit at installation must do balancing? I heard must do balancing otherwise washing machine will jump around. Haha

  7. Thank for the advice, will find time this weekend to go check it out.

Plan to replace my house mind door and gate, anyone got lobang?

Just to top up what oceaneleven mentioned.

Fire rated door min quote I got was 1.2+k. Non fire rated main door is around 600+.

End up my contractor just scrapped away the design on the present nyatoh door, touch up with wood plaster and paint single colour. But thats also because our door will hit afternoon sun so not so advisable to get veneer door per what he mention. Total damage only 150.

I was quoted wrought iron gate 2 leaf at only 400+. Hope this helps

  8. just a little history: this place is rather old and needs to redo everything.. basically put in a bomb and redo the house... hope the ID i am going to get can give me a good price as well as a wow factor!

a few things i need tips from the experience people here.. hope can get a few tips along the way as this is my first reno experience.. hope to use this blog to learn from everyone here..

1.balcony to extend into living area (make into indoor balcony with shelter) - other than build a roof on top , what are some of the options i can explore?

    2. pipes in the toilets - is it necessary to box up? seen a few blogs they did not box up and leave it open (i heard from some reno company it is illegal to box up true?)

    3. changing of WC position- anyone has any experience?care to share?

    thank u very much

    my 1st reno journey

Let me share what I understand about no.2.

From hdb website it has been stated that it is ok to box up the pipes. But rightfully need to leave an opening (if not wrong 60x60) for access like inspection or maintenance. Should you choose to box up the whole pipe, u just have to allow their contractor to hack the box up away if there is a need and u have to bear the additional cost.

  9. Some pre-renovation photos

    View from the main door:

I will be keeping the concept of a platform as I find the living abit too big and I didn't want to waste the space.

    The v long wall:

    Dining and balcony area:

The balcony has been leveled up previously so it makes the dining area even more spacious

    Kitchen:

I will be keeping the tiles as they are still quite. Carpentry to redo but still maintaining L shape

Your pictures remind me of the flat I used to live in when I was a kid. I'm guessing this is amk 500+?

  10. This is how the repositioning of the toilet bowl will be like when completed, this is the drawing and also the type of connector used.

The drawing for the finished layout

This is the pipe which extend out from the orginal wc hole.

    IMG-20150923-WA0006_zpsdxdwvssl.jpg

This is where the new wc position and the water tank is located on the back.

Wow! A picture really speaks a thousand words. But wonder why those ids and contractors I spoke to told me cannot be done. Hmm.

  11. Lol me too, anyway i shifted the toilet bowl position, instead of having it right at the end, to be at the front for a better layout. My id also design a siting area since need to build a structure low wall to hide the piping.

It will be like when i am bathing, if i lazy to stand, i can sit and bath... lol super lazy...

Hi. Can check w you how did u change ur toilet bowl position? I was told that toilet bowl position cannot be shifted. I can only rotate the facing of the bowl.

    Edit:

Saw ur pictures. Does this mean u will increase floor height to cover the piping or u have to buy specific toilet bowl only?

  12. My Purchase 1

Decided to get this compact water heater as it is long and slim rather then usual fat and short design. This long and slim would fit nicely into the space allocated by HDB. First time buying this brand, hopefully it is good. They seems to be a premium water heater manufacturer. AOSmith EWSH-25.

Can I know how much u bought ur AOsmith water heater? And does it come w the control panel?

  13. hmm.. just to update, there is this brand called schock. but not available in singapore but available on amazon sells at 487.

there is another option to purchase from their local seller called "wayfair" at 287 but no international shipping. i wonder why.

But is there any way to buy from wayfair and ship it to singapore? can any bros here dish out some advice?

  14. As for network this is still my headache for now but I guess most suggestions will be the new Starhub cable + fibre package where you can then have a cable modem and router on 1 level and fibre modem and router on another level to attain the best effect.

Would be good with any other experts here can share a better way out! I'm all ears...:)

I'm not expert. But what we did was to have cat6 cables pulled to second story and connect a router or modem (im not sure. Not so smart with this) so that 2nd story will also remain connected. At the end u only need to get the fibre plan.
