Second this advice. Try to maintain a good relationship with your contractor. A lot of these contractors are lowly educated and will not hesitate to sabo you.

I had the same problem. The contract removed the screws and wall plugs from the brackets and installed new ones.

I bought my LED lights and ceiling fans from yafen.sg. I don't think they have KDK though. Got them to install as well. Highly recommended by a lot of folks. Cheap and good.

China made product - sorry, I am really doubtful of their quality. Even Tao Bao can sell and US blacklist them.

I bought my jade when I was on tour in China. It is the size of a $1 coin and cost 10RMB. Real jade but not the good quality type.

If you do not need the fancy features of Philips Hue, you can consider remote control dimmable and colour changeable LED light. They are much cheaper and brighter than Philips Hue and are widely available in stores such as yafen.sg which sells these remote control downlights which are ~1cm thick at only $38.

Fibreglass is much cheaper than good quality weatherproof wood so fibreglass gets my vote.

Perhaps you would like to check out yafen.sg to view their range of LED lights, ceiling fans and electrical work at low prices (e.g. LED downlight @ $12) before you make your decision. I have been their customer for more than a year and recommended them to a lot of people and have not heard any complaints thus far.

Taobao is a nono. A lot of fakes and poor quality products. Even JB has a lot of fakes such as Mobil 1 engine oil. Better to buy in Singapore.

Check yafen.sg for pricing. I have been using their products and services for several years. Very good value for money and good quality. No complaints thus far.
