    Hack all the tiles. Overlay is more cost effective but your problems are inevitable.

    I bought my jade when I was on tour in China. It is the size of a $1 coin and cost 10RMB. Real jade but not the good quality type.

    If you do not need the fancy features of Philips Hue, you can consider remote control dimmable and colour changeable LED light. They are much cheaper and brighter than Philips Hue and are widely available in stores such as yafen.sg which sells these remote control downlights which are ~1cm thick at only $38.

    Fibreglass is much cheaper than good quality weatherproof wood so fibreglass gets my vote.

    Perhaps you would like to check out yafen.sg to view their range of LED lights, ceiling fans and electrical work at low prices (e.g. LED downlight @ $12) before you make your decision. I have been their customer for more than a year and recommended them to a lot of people and have not heard any complaints thus far.

    Taobao is a nono. A lot of fakes and poor quality products. Even JB has a lot of fakes such as Mobil 1 engine oil. Better to buy in Singapore.
