  1. Thanks pankponk! I can see you are very excited and rightly so. We are looking forward to catch your renovation down the road. hahah.. and I can guarantee that you will change your mind a dozen more times till you make the final decision of your renovation. I like the marbley whites and blacks too but also felt that the home is looking quite "flat" as in monotone etc and really just wanted to have a focal point that's all.

All white is little too safe

It will be at Bukit Panjang :D
I've been a silent reader since last year at renotalk even when I'm still in the search for the flat Lol.... reallyyy an advance planning hahahah

Now looking at the your counter top make me want to change my mind from white counter top...It's really match the kraus sink..

  2. Dear Owl, you forgot another important factor in the home renovation is the budget allocated to it. Indeed a contractor cant give as many ideas but we can try to create it if we have some creative juices (which don't have..haha) but budget allocated to the renovation also makes a huge difference.

To re-design a layout will already cost a few thousands more to shift the walls area, good quality products also comes with a hefty price and unique products comes even heftier.

Therefore the value of money spent can be quite different for individuals, Thats said, I also like Nextstep's home very much and I love that so much space to play around...

I checked the map and we're separated by the MRT track :D 409 is at Ave 10. If you're driving, just 5-10 minutes away :) It's famous mainly for the fish porridge (very fresh fish, and a long queue everyday!), Hokkien Mee, and fish head steamboat. Also, beside it is the 409 coffeeshop with very decent teochew porridge.

I still think it's a brilliant plan, really out-of-the-box thinking. It made me take a really good, hard look at my 娘家 and go 'WOW...!' Therein lies the difference between (good) IDs and contractors :good: For us, even with our contractor's advice, we still have to wreck our brains. But it's fun, lah.

  3. QUARTZ COUNTER-TOP

Couldn't resist not going to new flat although I have told myself not to go on a daily basis and let the workers do their job.

The counter-top from caesarstone has been installed.. I love it so much because it added some color to a otherwise plain white kitchen cabinets. My mum said even have ants on it also cant see.. LOL

The Teka cooker sitting on top of the Atlantic Salt of caesarstone

Looking at this photo, I was a little concern that the counter-top doesn't sit flat on the sink and was wondering about water seepage.
I remember reading from Kim76 and Khng discussion about the Kraus sink which comes with a stainless steel wire-rack where it will sit in the sink to protect scratches etc and that the counter-top's edge is not to be longer over the sink as then will have difficult remove it.

So I made a mental note to tell the caesarstone worker who did the measurements

  4. Thanks for information! I am sure I am not ready for this :0 That said, I am happy to have my own herb plant which is the basil and mnt which i used regularly for my cooking!

The vertical garden needs a water source (at the top) and discharge (at the bottom). It also needs sunlight. If there is insufficient sunlight, you need to install and turn artificial lights during the day. It needs maintenance (cut away dried leaves, replace plants that died, pruning, add fertiliser etc) every one or two weeks. I also spray pesticide to control creepy crawlies. I regard it as one of the best features in my house. However, it is probably not a good idea to do it unless you are ready.

Yes, all my DIY self-irrigation potted plants are still thriving. But you may want to start with a small pot, like the one on my TV console before moving to bigger pots.

  5. owlNbear, the Singapore Special mongrels have it much harder than cats as people are afraid of their size and looks so tends to call in to AVA with complains to have them trap and cull eventually if no dog shelters step forward to help. I work with 1 shelter who is dedicated to saving only mongrels but on some days I feel demoralized that for 1 dog saved, so many more have died. But nowadays we see many dog lovers adopting the strays and the puppy mill old dogs so that is a positive sign :sport-smiley-018:

Now the situation is worse because even pedigrees are being abandoned. People should just stop buying puppies looking so cute because it is easily a 10- 18 years responsibility.

DON'T BUY, ADOPT that's all I have to say.

Art, sorry for hijacking the thread!

I would really love to see what your original plans would have turned out to be! I have many ideas of my own that were never fulfilled as well..I keep telling myself nevermind, next house, next house :) RE the colours: It reminds me of one of those art galleries at the duxton hill / keong saik area. Or like the interior of a boutique marketing agency :) To be honest I had my doubts initially about how everything was going to come together. But wow, your last few shots totally cleared all of them. Good job :jammin: And your 'tenants' are so cute!! Dies of all that cuteness. But I'm curious too, wouldn't they get into fights? Or you have to let them out at separate times?

And lastly, thanks for your support! I initially planned to blog real time but I sorely underestimated the amount of work and planning needed from me behind the scenes...NO TIME TO BLOG :~

Very interesting backgrounds they have, and all the more meaningful it becomes :) Glad to see them all in good hands :thumbs up: But then, it's very sad to hear about their plight also. It seems like dogs have it so much tougher than cats, huh :( There aren't any dogs around my area (and I rarely see them outside anymore!), but the kitties here are very well taken care of by our kind-hearted neighbors. I hear from the cat feeders that someone even brings them to the vet every once in awhile!

  6. Looprevil, you have done a great job creating a cozy home. I have always like darker floor colors but your vinyl color choice is very warming and it matches well with the entire concept. The other item I like very much is your full TV console, classic and practical.

no roller blinds for the hall?

  7. Hey owlNbear, Let me intro you to my canine family. :thumbs up:
That big girl is our Singapore Special mongrel and was rescue from the restaurant Otto located at the red dot building. That's why after we rescue here, she is named otto.. haha.. so not creative right?

The white one, Brownie ( don't know why brownie when he is white) is a recent rescue as abandoned by previous owner and was send to AVA. You know the fate that looms over their heads if they are not adopted right so I thought will rescue and re-home later but turned out he is very insecure and bite like crazy and we have been trying to re-train him but seems like he is going to be adopted by us.

And the oldest is Milo, the Kings Charles cavalier, also an adopted case when given up at 6 years old. Pedigree with birth cert from Australia and feel sad for them when they get given up by their families.

Art, they were not looking for noms noms.. they were all waiting to wake me up! LOL

Before getting side-track, I really like the colors combi about your place. Has a "je na sais quoi" feel. and your tenants are super cute especially the last one - a guinea pig? But dunno why I am really afraid of their tails.

Lovely babies you have there  Is that handsome boy (or girl) on the right a german shephard?

  8. Hey ! Looks like almost done and yet still a lot not done :) The kitchen countertop, vanity solid top, box up of piping in toilet, feature wall, then plumber , then tiler, then aircon, and my 2 glass doors, the wall touch up,...then CLEANING!!!!

Kaki! Ur unit so bright... n Samsung can smile ah?? So cute!! Like mostly done alr right? Yay!!!

Thanks sapphire89! Lots of sweat and brain cells kill in the process of renovation. I like the AJ wall light so much that I bought already then "gian" where to put them. But before reno starts, I have always visualized my flat to be bigger till all my items arrived and i discovered too big or order too many:)
No problem in Korean at all as Mr Lim knows the lock inside out and he will teach you how to use it.

My lock getting delivered tomorrow!! Haha! Any issues using considering it's all in Korean?

Looking good your place. Nearly wanted to buy the black lamp you have extra of from TB too.. but realised don't need~

  9. Yo.. I chose to pay for TV rather than somone to hold my hands... different la.. you have tender loving care!

My Samsung is rosegold and domestic model.. maybe thats why so "gwi-yeo-wo-yo'

wow my dream TV, how much you pay for it?

U go for the 4K model ah?? RICH leh you hehehe!!!

Happy for you, uncle finally come to fix your lock for you.

Yours lock looks a bit different from mine, don't think mine got smiley face.

  10. Thanks for sharing this because I was also about to post on my blog asking for pillows reference. I bought the Westin hotel "heavenly Bed " series pillows a few years ago which is filled with goose feathers. The current goose feathers has been flatten by me and now cant get here anymore because no more Westin so have to trouble friend to buy from KL.. too much work la.

I need a firm one as being a side sleeper I am having neck ache when dont have sufficient support

As for your hob and hood, the hole is usually cut by the carpenter so fault could have lie there unless your ID gave instructions to cut otherwise..

I dunno what is Robinsons' house brand leh.. I bought this cos the feeling is right.

  11. Hi Angryhomeowner,

Photo 3,4 and the last looks like the tiles have chipped off and this is not acceptable because it is part of their job to ensure the new tiles remains new at handover. I believe the tiles can be replaced so you can speak to your contractor about this.

The other areas although not perfect but relatively acceptable to me even though the tiler could have done a better job knowing that a 40 years old flat will need more attention especially since the walls are crooked and uneven etc. Photo 1 and 2 probably can ask them to re-grout to have more evenness?

  12. LIGHTING PROGRESS:-

My T&J matt switches are up! This 2 switches have no casing because I have asked the contractor to embed the wires into the wall. Not just aesthetically pleasing but it is also behind my swing glass ktichen door so feel it is better that it doesnt knock into the switches too often.
You can get the switches at Poh Khoon Electrica at 21 Hamilton Road. Xiao Di is very helpful and pricing is good. They even have the copper colour and good for those who want a different look.

Downlights in the dining area (original living hall) / Entryway -
All lit up and the brightness is more than enough

My Samsung door lock is finally back up to the door. Now my contractor can sleep at night and not worry that my new applicances wll be cart off while using the temporary door.
I am facing a lot of issues with my door frame and door due to the old hollow walls.. after fixing it and re-pumping in the cement, the door frame got "pregnant again" for the 2nd time and having difficulty closing. What a nightmare!
This door has been badly traumatised even before I move in. :dunno: i am surprise the Samsung lock still can managed smiley face after what it has gone through... LOL

    nvr6vm.jpg

My contractor's worker is really good because if he sees that my light has white casing and I have black conduits, he will just sprayed them for me (even though I was suppose to DIY)... heheh
Tomorrow they will continue with the bedroom lights installation and also the feature wall and a partiion behind the walk in wardrobe.

  13. One of our more expensive item bought for the home. the LG OLED 55"

We bought it from Gain City @ Marina Square as recommended by Nextstep because the pricing is really good! We also found the sales person Mohammed Herwin to be super enthusiastic. We asked a lot of silly questions about soundbars and he was still equally happy to answer our questions. *Thumbs up for service.

We chose the OLED because the curved screen is not made up of plastic and offers little distortion compared to the others when viewing from side angles.
