  1. sentiments exactly, bro... i cannot guarantee how it will turn out even after paying more but at least we can click with the ID, else this process is gonna be even more tiring and painful. we did foresee clashes of ego with those IDs who are so half-hearted n not hearing us. however, i do admit that after scouring thru pages n pages of t-blog, there are fabulous IDs out there whom we have missed out in our shortlisting process we do not have time n talent so having the 3D drawings certainly helped us to make furniture n fittings purchases a lot easier decor will be a headache coz we wanted a low maintenance home. painting is the best option but it is ridiculously priced in sg n we're not traveling until our honeymoon in oct. may just hang our 3-pc wedding portrait... haha. $40 is dirt cheap! great buy there! btw, when did u start ur reno and expected date to complete?
  2. Hi Max383, I did go ID-shopping at Weiken, City Design, U Home and G-Plan. Very bad experience... G-Plan didn't get back at all, City Design lost our floor plan when we went back for 2nd meeting and claimed that it's with ID who is on leave , Weiken and U-Home didn't take note of our requirements properly but quotations were around $27k. We were impressed with Imposed Design coz he showed us 3D drawings at 2nd meeting and proposed ideas, unlike the rest who didn't even hear us properly. We felt its impt to get someone reliable for such a major project so disregarded the higher price and went ahead. We were also too lazy to scout around Wah... yours is so much cheaper when I didn't even have parquet. However, I have platform for mbr ($1.7k), false ceilings for living/dining, bedrooms and master bathroom ($2.3k), my study table and cabinet ($2.2k), wardrobe at BR 2 ($1.3k). But total only $7.5k here My furniture, fittings and aircon have easily set me back by another $18k so total damage is ard $60k. We told our ID we want to move by 9 March coz its super auspicious date for our zodiac so I think he is trying very hard. Do you have a T-Blog? I love to see home transformations
  3. Hi Max383, $38k was the preliminary quote. I have since added items and it now stands at $42k (including $2.2k for electrical works) I didn't choose any expensive materials (homo tiles only), but i have carpentry for all rooms. The workers started reno 31 Jan but stopped work on 4 Feb.. resuming next Tue. I didn't pay extra to speed up work but wont know if it is built in
  4. would u be able to provide contact numbers to the above? can PM if it is preferable by u? Tx
  5. my own personal experience last week, u shld consider purchasing lights at Jalan Besar instead, prices are better than balestair imo ... try Point One Lighting !!
  6. congrats on ur reno completion... time to celebrate! !!
  7. thanks sunzhi. your info is most timely. will discuss further details with him on sat. btw, u managed to find out if isolator is required for the aircon?
  8. does the price incl cost of installing the lights? i have similar no. of points too, except that i do not have ceiling fans.
  9. ya, exact same model... like the curve n i tink suction is higher than most hoods. i'm meeting the electrician on sat pm... hopefully he remembers. can pm me how much he charges u? i have so many points, including power sockets that my ID wants to charge me $2.7k! oh no, he sounds like a stubborn guy
  10. ya hor, dats a good way to look at it... 17% seems so much more substantial. just realised we have the same hood! really love the sleek design but so far have only seen it from catalogue. does it come with light? thinking of adding kitchen cabinet light if there isn't.
  11. 0.1mm is like no diff... mabbe i will just save my $$$
  12. really? but i bot mine only last sat.. will call n ask tml wat is the normal piping b4 upgrade called?
  13. not sure abt the piping leh... no mention of it during our discussion. tink the $200 is due to ur 22k unit?
  14. Hi Sunzhi, Thanks for the pm. Will check out the lights shop n call Eric. Forgot to ask if the $23/pc includes the downlight holder, not just bulb n ballast right? How big is your holder? Some shops tell me 2X18W bulbs cannot fit into 5.5" holder Ya, the sales guy Alvin says 1/2" insulation is better agst condensation so we upgraded. Saw the actual trunking in the shop but didnt think much of it. Now beginning to get worried it will look ugly !! Got my system 4 (1X18k, 3x10k) at $3,865 which includes upgrading to 1/2", 2nd trip, and 1+4 yrs warranty.
  15. hi sunzhi, i oso bought mitsubishi electric aircon from gain city n upgraded to 1/2'' insulations. is the trucking ugly n thick? thinking of changing back tp 3/8''. can i oso have eric chew's contact? urgently looking for electrician as my reno is starting next Thu. how was his works overall? working on tight timeline so cant afford screwups. do u still have the jalan besar shop's address? have to buy 26 downlights but ID wanted to charge me $34 per set! me looking for 2x18watt, 5.5" matt white downlight, osram bulb n atco ballast thanks in advance!
  16. the woodgrains are beautiful... doesn't look like DIY stuff
  17. hi jasch, thx for your compliments actually my home is much smaller but i'm not sure why it looks bigger in pix. just saw ur t-blog... really love the floral laminates! ur kitchen is will post more pix when reno starts in feb
  18. hi bobo_girl, welcome to reno talk! this forum is very useful for getting plenty of ideas and advice since most of us have experience looking for ID or started reno. for me, the most impt factor in confirming an ID is establishing reliability. it will be good if someone u know can recommend u an ID. i went to a few ID shops in IMM to get a few quotes, just to be very safe. sad to say, the IDs that i approached were not helpful in any way... they asked me what i wanted instead of suggesting ideas. during quotation, some of them didn't even include all the ideas and quote became unrealistic. quite a waste of time, i must say. the next best alternative is to look thru this forum since most of us have posted pix. see which designs and budget suits you and from there, you can shortlist a few IDs. when are you collecting your keys? i started sourcing in end Oct, even though i'm collecting keys end Jan. very kiasu, but i think its better to have more reaction time... all the best to you in your hunt!
  19. ya... really nice wardrobe. more pix!
  20. hi lavendery, u're too modest. saw ur blog and the decor is nice how much did ur reno cost u? the clipsal switch is cool... any feedback on the usage?
  21. u're so lucky! i won't mind low floor if its WIS (vs expensive mid floor resale unit). do u have any pix of ur house to share? blk 22 is beside 21 right? haven explore the area yet, only noe blk 20 is in front
  22. lavendery: thanks for ur warm welcome. how big is ur flat? mine is just a 85sqm and mid-floor unit. applefreak: yeah... can't wait to start reno and move into such a vibrant neighbourhood noticed a lot of young couples here yang guo: u wont believe it... the resale flat i bot didn't come with any built-in cabinets, not even in the kitchen. there wasn't any floor tiles in living room, and all bedrooms. only vinyl sheet for the floor so hacking was only for WC and basin, the study room and part of master br. ya, maybe u're right, it's the carpentery. my colleague was sharing wif me how her fren wanted to save $ on reno costs so did not have any built-in stuff. end up spend just as much when buying furniture. i hope my choice is right. happy: its for the washing machine
  23. thx wayne, sure hope the actual carpentery is as nice as the pix, considering the amt i've got to pay. can't wait for the keys collection!
