  1. It (a mortise type) can replace your existing mortise lock (hotlinked). It (a rim type - pic below) can also be installed in addition to your wooden door lock. You can leave your existing mortise wooden door lock as is and lock it when you are overseas for example. How many locks you want to lock depends on you :-) - but I would think you use a digital door lock because it is convenient. - so you only use the old door lock and gate lock (when going overseas for a long stretch, example) --- but the digital door lock does not lock the other old locks for you (of course) --- [i don't think I answered your question, but I hope you can infer the answer from my attempt ]
  2. I think most use the gate to let the air or wind come in (when you are at home). If you need double security - install another lock (the rim lock type). Register the RFID card to both locks - so tap and tap only to get in!
  3. It's $559. Includes installation, local warranty and lock. Please see links in 'instructions' on post #63.group buy closing post.
  4. Minimalis, there is no arrangement through my side - for any payment (partial or otherwise). As described in my group-buy closing posting (#63) in this thread earlier, the transaction is direct between interested party with the seller. PS. I wasn't aware you were expecting an email from me. I could have missed PM since this forums' PM box quota is small.
  5. Yeah - I saw that video too, you can install if you are a handyman with the relevant tool (especially the boring tool - that drills the hole through the door). I checked with the seller some time back: his 1-yr warranty does not cover the situation where we install our own. The reason given was that bad installation cases in the past (due to inexperience of house owners or traditional locksmith) has damaged the door lock- and buyers claimed warranty. He offers what is called "Pay only if it fits" assurance for his lock+warranty+installation - to ensure all parties are well-covered for the low price he offers. It's better you call him (same seller) - but please note "lock only" is not part of the group buy negotiated here - for reasons mentioned.
  6. Hi folks, I need to make sure I met my obligations of 10 units for the 8% discount. Installation beyond 2 weeks from Jan 19th , not backed by a deposit - I agree with seller is as good as not getting. I want to close out my obligations fast, if you have not contacted seller, please do it quickly - and let me know too. Thanks. To be updated (OK means i was notified in this thread or via PM that install date firm within 2 weeks, or future installation backed by deposit) 1x Gateman F100 atlantis2267---[ OK ] 1x Gateman F100 oogmsn 1x Gateman F100 Batman -------[ OK - and installed ] 1x Gateman F100 Velv 1x Gateman F100 yowetan ------[ not proceeding; door too thick ] 1x Gateman F100 firestarter ----[ OK ] 1x Gateman F100 minimalis -----[ OK ] 1x Gateman F10 freshzman------[ OK - and installed, changed to F100] 1x Samsung 5120 littleterror ----[ OK ] 1x Samsung 1320 littleterror ----[ OK ] 1x Samsung 1320 alamak -------[ OK ] Anyone else want to join the group buy and ready to install in two weeks or less, please join in.
  7. What about it? . I have a apartment in Malaysia that uses two of these (for front and back door). It's safer in the Malaysia context and cheapest solution for those who keep loosing their keys.
  8. I will let the seller decide how long he wants to offer discount; so just go ahead and try (I would also anticipate some will drop out from the group buy). In the meantime, how come no one looked at Gateman F10? This is a rim lock that I thought would be quite convenient for some. Just want to highlight so not all herding towards F100 - lol.
  9. It is listed on some of the ebay ads - but here it is: korealocks@gmail.com
  10. I am bumping this post of mine because whatever group buy negotiated better be closed fast because if txn is dragged unnecessarily long, and Korean Won currency continues to rise, I don't think you can hold it against the seller. I am not the expert on currency trends other than the graph in the link above. You make your own conclusion.
  11. One of the "benefits" for digital door lock is that it autolocks when the door closes. It makes sense then to have the door closer to close the door for you when you leave the house, so all you have to do is to walk out . For my place, in east , high story, facing seaside, it is very very windy this time of the year. It's not just the lock I worry about, but my whole HDB door hinge is slight dislocated from the various times the door slams. This is my real reason though the first one makes perfect sense to complement the functions of the digital door lock.
  12. This group buy is more complicated than I thought. We have 10 interested parties , but too much effort to wait for each to confirm confirm want to go or no-go. So, I am going to take a risk and assume all will go - or cross my finger some more will come in to fill the drop-outs. 1x Gateman F100 atlantis2267 1x Gateman F100 oogmsn 1x Gateman F100 Batman 1x Gateman F100 Velv 1x Gateman F100 yowetan (via PM) 1x Gateman F100 firestarter 1x Gateman F100 minimalis 1x Samsung 5120 littleterror 1x Samsung 1320 littleterror 1x Samsung 1320 alamak Expectation setting: 1) My responsibility stops here with the coordination of this group-buy pre-negotiated discount. 2) Interested party -- please follow the instructions below to complete the transaction with the seller. You are transacting with the seller (and not me!). 3) If you do not proceed, kindly let me know too - because I have an understanding with the seller this is a group buy based on 10 units for the agreed discount, and I need to get more to come in to patch the gap 4) If you do proceed, let me know too - so I can keep count of my 'obligations' Instructions: 1 - Please visit the links here to find information for the lock+install+warranty package: Gateman F10 - $499, F100 - $690, Samsung 5120 - $559, 1320 - $299 (as of Jan 18) 2 - Contact the seller per description on the links above (on install date, address and price listed above with this additional text : "Renotalk Group Buy 8% discount - <your forum nickname>" -- and don't forget to let me know if you do go ahead or drop-out. PS. I strongly encourage you to get a door closer - for auto-close but more importantly to avoid door slamming in strong winds (go buy somewhere and ask the installer if they can install it for an incremental fee) - or maybe another group buy/install Jan 22: Updated Gateman F10 link as well (no handle ie. RIM lock)
  13. The current seller's price for SHS-5120 is $559;I got mine in Oct last year with the old price (I think you did a google search directly instead of within eBAY, hence you see expired listing with the old price). The negotiated price is 8% off current listing (as of Jan 18 - within 2 weeks); I don't think it is fair to ask a seller to hold a price too far out into the future if Korean Won is rising.
  14. Will check with seller later this evening on the 5120. Value of a 'price' is relative to so many factors; so each of us can make a decision to go/no-go on the indicative price (and price when locked down). I was looking at how Korean won currency is performing relative to SGD -- and I just loved google (link below). You can use the zoom buttons to go back to history --- so supersmart people would have bought the lock (and probably a thousand other things) in early part of 2009 where it is so low - but then we can't be that supersmart . So we make do with the current situation. Google Finance Korean Won against SGD
  15. Last call for consolidated group buy: 1 - Target 5% off whatever price quoted (lock only) on eBAY.sg Update Jan 18: target 8% off whatever price quoted FULL package (lock + Sat/Sun installation + 1yr warranty) on eBAY.sg [Note: vendor offers "Pay only if it fits" assurance] 2 - Need 10 units to negotiate 3 - Wrap this up Jan 19th - go or no-go. Notes (w/o disc, to apply 8% on Full): 1) Full: F100 - 690, 5120 - 559, 1320 - 299 (as of Jan 18)
  16. Anyone interested to partake in a group buy for digital door lock (gateman or samsung), pls jot interest in the thread here: Samsung and Gateman Digital Door Lock group buy interest. Closing in 2 days' time to get going.
  17. Consolidated group buy: 1 - Target 5% off whatever price quoted (lock only) on eBAY.sg 2 - Need 10 units to negotiate 3 - Wrap this up Jan 19th - go or no-go. Interest: : 1x Gateman F100 atlantis2267 1x Gateman F100 oogmsn 1x Gateman F100 Batman 1x Gateman F100 Velv 1x Gateman F100 yo**tan (via PM) 1x Samsung 5120 littleterror 1x Samsung 1320 littleterror 3 more locks to go, 2 days to close this (go/no-go).
  18. Two things to consider (at least for my HDB door and metal gase): 1) Is the metal gate handle in the same location as the wooden door handle? For my case, my metal gate opens in the center; that is the metal gate handle is not in the same location as the wooden door handle. So I don't have the issue. 2) The clearance I need between my door and my gate is minimum 6.5cm for my Samsung SHS-5120. But if you clear above point, this should not be an issue, in my opinion.
  19. Bump. As mentioned 1 - Target 5% off whatever price quoted (lock only) on eBAY.sg 2 - Need 10 units to negotiate 3 - Wrap this up Jan 19th - go or no-go. Anyone else, can be other models GateMan F100 or F10, Samsung 1320, 5120 etc.
  20. I think all of us goes through that thinking before we buy; so let me share mine through the response below. Maybe it helps, maybe not. Actually, they are not lobang because it is quite visible through google. We are empowered with technology mah; empower our purse string to stretch too. I am not sure if you can call Yale or shop in the middle of night. Actually I called Yale during daytime to get a quote for a door closer and they can't even tell me the price. As for the shop, to be blunt, there are published working hours. The only way way for the shop to work till midnite is to increase the current price x times - which they can't do as the price is already out of this world for a door lock). I would like to think it is 'fair value' in a more informed and open market - for smarter vendors and smarter buyers. Smarter vendors who used information technology to reduce overhead cost, and likewise smarter buyers who can stretch the family budget for other important things. Yeah -- if you have a back or side door, then no need lah. If only one door, then consider mine Samsung SHS-5120 - with key (and more value too!). Sometimes, I think shops at shopping centres (with high rentals) close shop faster...... I think the eBAY vendor has quite a lot of customers (looking at his eBAY buyers and feedback which is quite transparent too). I can't tell about a shop in a shopping center - and whether they carry stocks for a replacement. At the end of the day, no right or wrong decision. eh, just an informed (or less informed) decision. So I made mine with information available to me at the point in time. A shop in a shopping center is a perceived 'safety net' though there is nothing to really back up that perception.
  21. Can get two for one, with some loose change left . Use the extra lock for storeroom or bedroom, or ... ........... put two locks on the main door --- wahhhhhhhh -- first doubly secured door in Singapore.
  22. I'm an IBM Thinkpad user (actually since 199x, since the first one ,and currently using also a model with the fingerprint swipe). Without disparaging other brands, I have no breakdowns since my first thinkpad, typically upgrading after 4 years in company - and no issue with fingerprint with the current x61. The association of a Fujitsu laptop fingerprint with a Korean door fingerprint , coupled with user's finger differences, comes with many assumptions.
  23. If they 'comfortable' with contactless cards (e.g kopi tiam cash cards or MRT), then they should be comfortable in using these to open the doors as well, they are same size and just white. You can consider the Samsun locks like the one I use. PS. Can be fun drawing things on the white cards, I wrote my 2010 goals. My daughter drew cartoons. . ........
  24. I thad thought it was a standard function (hold) .. but good point! I'm looking at Yale lite and Dorma TS 68, will check all three.
  25. Yeah, that was the earlier plan (but too few units to negotiate). It will be a lot of effort and the seller's price is already relatively quite low. Let's aim for 1o units (to get some nego power - target 5% off ) and we can wrap it up (go/no go) in one week (Jan 19 midnight). State whatever Gateman or Samsung door models you are looking at. 1x Gateman F100 atlantis2267 1x Gateman F100 oogmsn < need 8 more to decide go/no go >
