  1. Hello, the design is clean and modern (Y) I have a question about the window lock, how much is it? Could you give the contact? I need to install in my home
  2. After more than 2 years we finally decided to upgrade our common room with built in furniture! So far we are pleased with the first reno as nothing major has fallen apart. We called up homesuccess branch in Bukit Timah and found that our previous ID Derrick has left, I think he set up own business. What a pity as we still like his designing, but got the original carpentry contact, Sunny. Name: Sunny Contact: 93837133 Project: Built in 7 feet study table with glass top and wall shelves Cost: $1700 (-$100 for glass dents) Verdict: 7.5/10 Due to previous carpentry quality, we went for the same again and did not disappoint. He managed to get the same starry laminate (last pieces!) and installation was done in half a day. The minus point is the glass top was badly done with some misfit and dents. Before After
  3. Hi Dean, We paid around $200k around five years back, in the East. Singapore is humid overall so I am not sure Batok is particularly humid though. Regards,
  4. Hi Dmon, Congrats on your reno! It has been a year now and my family and I are enjoying the new interior. I must say although money gone, it is worth every penny. Personally, I find their workmanship (usually contracted) is good on 1) Kitchen table top 2) Built in laminated woodwork (wardrobe, cabinet, etc.) 3) Ground work, water channeling 4) Overall design (this is more dependent on ID) But not so good on 1) Tile laying 2) Wall polishing (or what you call that?)
  5. Saw this sofa in show room, about 9 feet long, fabric material. Does anyone know where to get and the cost roughly? Really perfect for my home!
  6. Hi Nimzo, the 4 piece glass door is around 2k as in contract :-)
  7. Hi chergaby, Sorry for the late reply, from window wall to washing machine is 131cm and window wall to cabinet is 245cm. Let me know if u need more info
  8. I agree. Now that my reno is all done, I will recommend him to people. Let me elaborate why, 1) He got his guy to align my down lights promptly upon request. 2) I needed a baby rocker ceiling hook to be installed in common room. He went the extra mile to get me the hook FOC and installed it. 3) I requested one more double points in living room last minute, he got it done for me FOC. 4) His tone is patient and never pushy for payment. Do check thoroughly his guys work and rectify them. There may be imperfections but they will be attended to if you bring them up.
  9. Thanks bro, Derrick came up with this and we thought is not bad. Cause we didn't want any cables seen and false ceiling is not so suitable in the kitchen.
  10. I am in no position to rate him yet, this is only my first reno! I think he is okay, but different people different expectation I guess. Sure bro, I try to help if I know, wish yours a smooth one! I think for 3 room has very limited space so design is very important, for us we hack off the store room so lots of old things are forced to be thrown away
  11. Thanks! Yea the halogen bulbs are quite hot, I wonder how long they last. Only switch on when makan haha
  12. Thanks, how is your reno? Jackson was quoting you as a nice guy, hope his electrical work is good
  13. Ha.. I was waiting for someone to say that (we got ripped off)! Thanks. Actually we feel quite expensive too, like an impulsive deal. But this two-month renovation journey really opened up my eyes and taught me a lot, a lot of things. Let me summarize them in the following afterthoughts. 1. In Singapore context, ID is like more a middleman/coordinator and less a designer. I am quite surprised to see how an ID makes money here. Instead of charging a design fee, he will give FOC. Instead of quoting reasonably, he will mark up the contract item prices and earn the diff. You can bargain down but still his margin is super! IMHO, I hire an ID is to get his design first, I don't mind paying him design fee. This encourages ID to be more professional right? Earning through items mark up and commission of external contacts should not be the way ID makes a living. 2. Paying a lot upfront and on time can sweeten your relationship with ID, make him work harder, but that depends on your ID's conscience. Initially our budget was 25k, and towards the end it is close to double! Over the reno course, we certain heard this quote multiple times, "since you reno already, as well get this done too/as well get do a nice one". Money flows out like water but in the end, it is quite rewarding and you wake up smiling everyday. Do not forget to bargain even after signing the contract, like we got back some money due to delay. 3. If you have lousy design sense, get a good ID. Otherwise, don't bother. You can browse through thousands of catalogs, sample pictures from the Internet. But ultimately, if you are lacking design sense, it is better to engage an ID, browse through his work, be open and listen to his ideas. Over the reno course, there will be many instances where his advice and experience come in handy. I am very particular about the overall theme in design, by mixing and matching myself will be quite risky. 4. Do not expect a hassle-free reno if you get an ID. I spent considerable effort in managing him constantly. There will be hiccups, frequent phone calls, price bargaining, negotiations and last but not least, "give and takes". Whatever it is, try not let the relationship go sour as if that happens, he risks his reputation and you risk your house. You can also create an open blog and make known to him, give him the incentive to do a better job. Overall, is Derrick a good ID? IMHO, he is. But can be better, thanks!
  14. Thanks! It was a promo package together with the basin
