  1. Helloo! Well, for a start, there are different types of Nyatoh doors based on the carpentry works: Nyatoh Solid Door Nyatoh Semi-Hollow Door (Finger joints, and overall frame plus additional parts are from Nyatoh Solid Timber but the remaining are empty, hence hollow) Nyatoh Hollow Door (Only the frame and essentials are made of the Nyatoh Solid Timber, the rest is hollow. Hence, a hollow knock sound can be heard when you knock on the door) Nyatoh is basically a type of timber wood (light and reddish wood imported from Malaysia). Hence, when you are comparing between Nyatoh and Solid Plywood, you would need to compare between the different types of timber wood to have a fairer gauge. Solid plywood may just be plywood from different types of timber wood to make up the door, not necessarily from Nyatoh Timber wood. I hope my answer is clear enough! I'm from U-Court Wood Products, the specialised wholesaler and supplier for Nyatoh Timber Wood, Reconstituted Veneer Plywood, Meranti Finger Joints, S4S Sawn Timber etc to businesses, merchants, retailers and carpenters. Hopefully some of the pointers are proven useful! You can also look us up at www.ucourtwood.com if you require any supply of timber wood.
  2. Hello! There are varying types of Nyatoh solid door products and the type of carpentry used. I believe that if you feel the door is pretty hollow, it may mean that the supplier or carpenter used recycled wood spare parts to do up the overall of the door and the component of Nyatoh solid wooden door may not have been of high quality. Your Nyatoh door is not solid, it should be Nyatoh hollow core door. Meaning to say, the main parts are made up of Nyatoh wood, but the other bulky parts of the door are hollow. The carpenter should have placed more timber finger joints to fill the door. I'm from U-Court Wood Products (www.ucourtwood.com), with overall 40+ years of experience in dealing with Nyatoh hard doors, there are varying types of Nyatoh doors and the type of carpentry and joinery quality works differ from carpenter to carpenter, some carpenter may try to save/cut cost by using cheaper/spare wood fillers for the remaining parts of the doors. So, for homeowners, do let your carpenter know to avoid this! I hope this helps! U-Court Wood Products is Singapore's leading supplier for Nyatoh Wood, Meranti Finger Joints, Timber Hard Wood, Reconstituted Veneer Plywood for merchants, enterprises and carpenters.
