  1. Some updates for the day... Nothing much done except for the common toilet flooring, kitchen tiles and some more tiles in the living area. Half of the living room is now completed... Hopefully by next week they can complete the living and dining room and start on the bedrooms. The common toilet flooring is done... Really like the result Kitchen walls also mostly done up. Even the grouting is done. The workmanship is good by my standard (which isnt much to begin with ) This is the PVC pipe that the electrician use to shift my SCV and socket to the other side of the room. The wires will be run under the tiles. Now for some shots taken for the fun of it: So thats all for now... Progressing slowly but steadily... After lots of consideration, we are having second thoughts on some of the laminates chosen before and will be meeting the ID to discuss them... Probably will get him to redraw the 3D again. Also I'm still having headache on how to settle the ventilation fan in the toilets... Should I tap them to an existing light point or run a brand new point with ugly trunking in my nice toilets
  2. Hi guys, On the advise of my FSM, I need to keep a light just behind my door turned on from 7pm to midnight everyday. I am looking to install a timer to make things easy for myself but I have no idea which kind of timers I can use. I've seen timers with clock setting but they are meant for 3 pin plugs. Are there any meant for light points that does the same thing? I'm not looking for esaver kind of timer but rather one that I can just leave there without me touching it much and it will switch the light on everyday.
  3. My 2 toilets + kichen reno are actually part of a package that cost 10.6k incl full hacking, tiling of flr and wall, installation of heaters, accesories, sinks, pipes, waterproofing, bi-fold door x 2 and 20ft of kitchen cabinet + some other freebies (which I cant reveal much till my reno is over ) I got an initial quote from my ID without the package and one MBR toilet roughly cost: Hacking tiles and WC - $480 Laying of wall tiles (incl tiles, cement & labour) - $1000 Laying of floor tiles (incl tiles, cement & labour) - $420 Shower kerb - $80 Waterproofing - $80 Bi-fold door - $180 Tempered glass shower screen with door - $480 Suspended vanity cabinet with doors - $600 Mirror with solid backing (1.5m x 0.9m) - $320 Solid surface top for vanity cabinet - $225 Labour to install accesories,WC, heater, basin - $150 So it cost about $4000 to do up the toilet incl vanity top and large hotel-like mirror. If without vanity top its avbout $3000. This still doesnt incl cost of the WC, tap, heater, mixer and accesories which can cost another $1000. So based on the price, I think I made a right move to take the package to do both bathrooms (which would have cost $3000-4000) and the kitchen as well.
  4. Yeah, I've been to furniture mall, IFC, courts and other furniture shops and most of the nice dining set cost about $1500-$2000++ Thats why when i saw the BB offer, I rushed down to make my purchase. If I got this set at the usual price it would have been about $1700+.
  5. Ordered a Crestar WindPac 54" today. Wanted to get a Fanco 56" but no stock everywhere Anyone knows if crestar has a website?
  6. Today is another typical renovation saturday driving all over singapore Firstly we went Jalan Besar searching for ceiling fans... Wanted to get a Fanco 56" model but many places sold out on the bronze colour we wanted. So we ended up ordering a 54" Crestar Windpac from Royal Fanco first with the option of changing back to the other model once stock comes in mid june. Next we went to searching for our dining chair... Barang Barang are having special 50% store-wide. It's supposed to be by invite only and past customers should have gotten an SMS or email. But if you go there and mention the promo they will still give you the discount I bought my dining chairs there today... 4 pieces usual price $139 each but got all 4 at $278... Very good bargain considering most of the similiar chairs I see elsewhere are selling at $150-200 each... So my BB dining set cost me $868 only We got the chairs shown in the picture below, 2 of each colour. Everything at BB is on 50% till tmr so if you're eyeing anything from there, better go down and see.
  7. I'm doing tiling for all the floors (living, dining, bedrooms, toilets, kitchen, balcony and service balcony) and walls for kitchen and 2 toilet. Guess thats why they sent 4 guys to my place to do But the workmanship seems ok... I haven tested for hollow tiles but the alignment look fine to me... You getting the kitchen baskets so early? Did u buy those to hang on the walls or in the cabinets itself? I also wanna change my room doors but no $$$ Which fanco model did u get and how much? I wanted a Fanco 56" one but Royal Fanco says out of stock so have to wait for it to come in prob in june... Ended up ordering a Crestar 54" WindPac first.
  8. Need some advise from you guys... I'm thinking of installing a ventilation fan in the bathroom but currently HDB provides concealed points for one light and one heater. So in order to minimise trunking, I'm thinking of tapping the fan to either of these. It will be a problem if i tap to the light point cos that means even in the day, I will have to on the light if I need the fan. So I am thinking more of tapping to the instant heater point. However, I need to confirm that instant heater dont consume power till you turn on your tap right? So I can on the heater switch to turn on the fan but the heater wont be draining additional power right? And electrically, the fan and heater should be able to share the same point rite? Anyway most of the time we will need the fan only while bathing so the heater should be on at the same time also (unless someone is making big business ) I would like to avoid the case of running another switch point just for the fan as that would mean more trunking in my bathroom
  9. Do you guys run a brand new switch for the fan or do you tap to either the existing light/heater point? I'm using instant heater so I wonder if it would be advisable to tap to the heater point? Instant heater doesnt consume power unless water is turned on right? I dont want too many ugly trunking running out to my bedroom as all my wires are currently concealed.

  11. Will surely post more pics as reno progresses... Hopefully when I go over this wk end the common bathoom floor will be up Anyway I heard from my ID someone in my block complain of the noise from my reno last weekend. The HDB branch office called him up and sort of scolded him So now he might not plan for any works on weekends...
  12. I'll be using those metal "dog-bowl" style lights. I bought the double tube version and will use white daylight bulbs. Think will be very bright You can still overlay your tiles now
  13. Why dont u start ur own t-blog instead of posting here?
  14. Today we went to the site and found that the living room tiling has started. About 20% of the living + dining area has been tiled. The tilers seem to have done a very neat job, covering the tiles with cardboard as they go along. This is the tile we chose for the living, dining and bedrooms: The kitchen walls are also 75% completed. We really like the rectangle tiles, it gives the kitchen a nice modern look The grouting have not been put in yet though but the effect can be seen already. Lastly, we were surprised to see that the MBR toilet floor has been completed. The shower kerb is up and the tiles all laid nicely. The walls have been cleaned up somewhat and the feature tiles flower pattern can be seen a little more. However we feel that the flower prints are not outstanding enough The place is pretty dark though so perhaps with lighting it will be better...
  15. Coffee Table Settled! We went to Ikea today under the impression that there will be massive sales since it's their 30th anniversary sale but we were disappointed. Only selected items were on sale and none were the ones we want. So we left empty handed Next we went to Furniture Mall to look for dining chairs. Couldn't find any that are nice yet fit our budget. Thought it will be another wasted trip but then we saw a nice glass coffee table which is of the right size we have been looking for everywhere! We want a small glass table for the living room and really like this *****. We put a deposit for it immediately... Thats another thing to mark off the list
  16. I think should be ok as long as within reasonable limits lor I've seen 2 versions so far. Initially I thought it was ok but as the reno starts, I asked the ID to redraw some of them as we start changing our minds. So I guess in the end we will be looking at about 3 or 4 versions ba... Good idea thanks! Thanks!! This really helps! Seems like it looks closer to the shade in the colour swatch only at night. In the day it looks brighter right? Ok, seeing your picture makes me more confident in going ahead with Mocha Delight.
  17. Mine is highest floor so quite bright... I think one panel is ok also but I cant help but keep thinking of alternative... haha... If this goes on then reno can never finish! Anyway I will ask Max to redo the 3D drawing and then we'll see how it goes...
  18. Yeah this colour is very nice. But my floor tiles are not pure white but slight beige in colour so might not match this... Maybe I might consider this for the study room... Still cant make up my mind... I'm worried that if I paint the whole wall behind the tv console with mocha delight, the whole living room will appear darker... sigh... Cant visualise how the colour will turn out...
  19. I have been so busy with the renovation that I have not had much time in recent weeks for my hobby - photography. Today was flipping thru the ICI colour swatch booklet which I "kop" from Barang Barang and it inspired me to whip out my DSLR and did a mini series on some of the nicer colours. Comments welcomed If anyone is interested, you can view my other photos at http://www.flickr.com/hobbes187 We want one outstanding wall in each room and we're still deciding on what colours to choose. So far the tentative list are all earth tones since we're doing resort theme. I love the lollipop and Fiesta Orange but they dont fit into my theme, maybe I should have done a pop art theme instead Anyway I will use lily white for the whole house and the oustanding wall in the living room will be Mocha Delight while that in the guest room will be Natural Linen. The outstanding wall in the study will be in Stone Cave. Have to double confirm with ID that they all look good together.
  20. Your group of tilers are efficient... When did ur tiling start? Mine started on last sat and till now done up kitchen and both toilet walls. I noticed your kitchen wall tiles are laid vertically... Did u request for that or is it the ID decision? My kitchen ones are laid horizontally to make the place look wider. Only my MBR ones are laid vertically.
  21. Prob wont be shifting the points after moving in but you brought up a good point on water seeping in. The points where the wires run under the tiles will be in the living room and study room. I guess the only water contact in those area should be when mopping the floor... So should be safe right? Water from mop shouldnt seep below the tiles right?
  22. Anyone can advise me on whether it is ok to lay wiring below the tiles? My ID is proposing shifting 2 power points from one wall to another wall and he says running wire under the tiles will minimise ugly trunking running up to the ceiling. Have you guys done this before?
  23. Dont forget to post your 3D once its done! I'm still waiting for a revision of the 3D drawing to include a TV wall feature and changes to the shelter feature and shoe cabinet design... Seems like Ideal House has so many jobs that the drafter cant keep up... Anyway my tiling is also ongoing now and you guys wont regret re-doing the toilets and kitchen cos new tiles really gives the place a different feel You can see my blog for the standard of tilers although we will all probably be getting different groups of ppl.
  24. We also went down to the site to meet my ID for some discussion on the wiring and placement of switches. Some of the tiles were up already. These are what have been done in 3 days from sat till today. MBR toilet The walls are up and this pic is actually supposed to show the feature wall with flower design. But the wall is still covered with lots of powery stuff (from the cement I assume) so I cant get a good shot of it. ID says after chemical washing and with lights the patterns can be clearly seen. Common toilet The walls are mostly up also and I really like this design! The feature wall really makes the toilet look posh. Too bad we cant use this design in the MBR toilet cos with the shower screen + vanity top + feature walls, the whole place will look like a cluttered mess Kitchen The kitchen wall is halfway done and the workers looks to be very meticulous in their work. Hopefully when I go down again on Thurs the kitchen will be done Anyway the guy in blue is the guy following Max ard as mentioned by some of the forummers. So everything is progressing and once the kitchen wall tiles are done (hopefully tmr), then the floor tiles in the kitchen can start. ID is proposing to run some of the wiring under the tiles to hide the ugly trunking in places where I dont have false ceiling. Is that advisable? Personally I think should be ok...
