  1. Hi All! Renovation journey started on 2 January and had some delays in between due to CNY, and we are finally coming to an end. We signed up with a contractor however there were some items that we did not take up from him as we managed to get better pricing elsewhere. Pros: Cheap, direct communication with the subcons Cons: A lot of coordination to be done. Will be documenting down the different subcontractors that we have met during the past 5 months, there were many many nice people however there were also a handful of bad service / workmanship that we encountered. Will also be posting some photos on the next post! Quartz: St*ne Amper*r We came across their Facebook and they were running a 30% promotion for all their quartz, hence we decided to engage them as our contractor couldn't match the pricing. Their company brings in quartz from different companies, and gives truthful reviews of the different brands. We contacted them and their staffs are really friendly and helpful. We went down to their shop during eve of public holiday and they patiently went through the different quartz that they are offering. Installation was done in April 2018 as it can only be done after our kitchen and vanity cabinet carpentry. Their workers were on time, fast and really efficient! No complaints on workmanship as well, everything is pretty seamless. Aircon: J* Aircon They were recommended by a friend of mine as their pricing is pretty attractive as compared to places like Gain City / Courts. We went for our first appointment with them and met Mr K, he was really helpful and went through the models they have and the materials that they used for installation. Pretty good service and good pricing so we decided to take up the package from them. As our house was still in the midst of renovating so Mr K suggested to split installation into 2 sessions (1st session to run piping, 2nd session to install the units when reno is almost completed) and we agreed. Due to their packed schedule, they could only arrange installation 3 weeks later but a week later he called us and said that there was an appointment cancelled so he could allocate us an earlier installation date!!! We were really happy about that and was appreciative that he was kind enough to arrange that for us, however it was only during the installation day that we realised it was a mistake... 1st hiccup - They came on a Saturday and we did not know there will be drilling involved and we were still pretty noob on the hdb reno rulings, it was on that day that we realised that drilling is NOT allowed on a Saturday. In the end, we got complaints from neighbour & a call from the town council. As they told us that they will be completing soon and will minimise the volume (idk how they are able to do so??), so we did not question further. We were just glad by the time town council came by, they have already stopped the drilling. 2nd hiccup - After they left, we realised they did a very very very bad plastering job on the walls (photos will be provided on next post). Long story short, the plastering caused a "hump" on the wall which pops out thicker than our door frame. We highlighted this to Mr K and he arranged a worker to rectify this, but then the "hump" still remains. We gave up on engaging them and sand the "hump" away by ourselves. 2nd installation was done in April 2018 when the house renovation is almost complete. 3rd hiccup: 1 of the worker accidentally knocked the aircon unit on our wall causing a small hole. We understand that it's inevitable for such cases to happen however it was how they handled the situation that pissed us off badly. When highlighted on the hole, the worker helped to cover the hole with plaster and it obvious that there is a mark on our wall. We decided to highlight this to Mr K again and told him that to remove the mark we will have to repaint the whole wall and it might be cost incurred to us. Mr K attitude then changed. He said he can take responsibility if our painter decides to charge us for it but he would show this to everyone saying how unethical our painter is. In the midst of settling this with Mr K over the phone, one of the worker asked us for payment but we said to wait as we are still discussing with Mr K. The workers reply to us was: "Okay, then I guess we will have to uninstall the units." What kind of service is this?!?!?! We then contacted our painter and he said that out of goodwill, he will be repainting the wall for us even though it should be charged as it's quite a big area. All in all, their before and after service is very different and I will definitely not recommend them! Curtains: U Curtains They are highly recommended online by many BTO owners and I have to say, THEY ARE REALLY GOOD!!!! The business is run by 2 lovely and humble couple and their pricing is really good. As they can be really busy, their reply might be a little slow and we understand from them that due to that they got some bad reviews about it. During the 1st appointment they will take down the measurements and go through the extensive designs and materials that they have. After selection, we will provide a quotation within a week. Installation was done in April 2018, and as usual they were really chatty and friendly! The uncle does the installation and the auntie acts as an assistant getting him the tools and items he requires. At the end of the installation, they taught us how to fold the curtains so that it will look nicer and also gave some tips on keeping the curtains and blinds in good condition. As our living room blinds is temporarily OOS, they will have to make another trip to install it. Can't wait to see them again! Highly recommended!
