  1. 2. They just installed a new light right on top of the table, so sometimes 11.30pm ppl still playing :furious: I can hear the 'tok tok tok' from my house.

For those interested in some table tennis, there are 2 tables around here, 1 at 356A and the other at 360A. One karenfaith can peep and the other I can peep at the people playing :sport-smiley-004:

  2. thanks for the info...can advised which block so can check it out, i stay in 35X as well.

Keltong, since u are familiar in this area, maybe we go lim kopi, and u tell... :notti:

I remember 35X but cannot recall which block exactly, think the block is near MRT one, either 356 side or the HDB branch office side...kopi can, PM you my number. :D

  3. ur balcony garden so niceee ;)

    Heehee...thanks to winkplay.com :notti:

Wah! lucky you hor! Some parent can't get a place in the school they want they cry leh. My son P1 & P2 that time chinese is gd but P3 start to drop bcoz of the teacher. Then I get tutor to help him but no instant result lah, he managed to score A for his PSLE after 3 years of tutoring. You worry also no point coz nowadays their chinese very difficult unlike last time ours. Don't know why MOE must empathized so much on chinese!

Your son now in P2 right? Chong Fu's chinese teacher should be gd right? so I think you dun have to worry lah.

Last time my son in canberra , there the chinese teachers very lax one.

Yah...it was quite a scare especially we are the last few to be picked out. For me I not so worry about his results, as long as he puts in effort I am ok lah. Let him 'develop' loh...esp P1/P2 don't stress him too much first wait he lost interest.

    Hi TONG

    Can you close the door?

For me, I am unable to close if I hang the hanger at the top of the wooden door!!!

    HAPPY

Can leh, I use it for 3 rooms and all 3 room door can close leh. My doors are original HDB ones.

  4. Well yes, planing to enrol my kids at Canberra Pri, just opp my unit :notti:

Need after school care, as both working.

Maybe need to recce more to this area.

One day maybe u see an ah pek cycling looking for after school care, that will be me :)

Sembawang road too far liao, hehe, i don't drive.

I know there is a childcare at my sector (35X) but not sure they have after school care boh. My son's school in Yishun, so put him in the Yishun before school care, easier for us.

No problem you can come and take picture. I often have pple outside my hse snapping pictures. I also have old British soldiers coming into my hse and request to take pictures coz they lived in my unit when they were station here more than 30 years ago.

It used to be a nice place to live in but not anymore coz everyday lots of china and bangala will cycle pass, and they are very inconsiderate. Make noise, spit and throw rubbish and the maids here also terrible. Not an good place for local family with maid ( they will get influence easily).

Also everyday this group of abt 7-8 sometimes more old folks will pass by as early as 6am ( morning exercise) they will talk very loudly. They are dam terrible, old but no brain. And now the adventure camp operator Focus is just behind my hse. They conduct courses for children and can be very noisy sometimes.

Not more the old world charm that we longed for. Now that my children are older, they goes to school by themselves and it can be quite inconvenient for them as the MRT and buses are a distance away.

And recently they changed the estate management, this new idiots come in only want to increase rental by more than double. Not worth it anymore!

Wow...sounds bad sia...no wonder you want to move.

  5. Chong Fu also very good I heard many parents try very hard to get the kids in. Wow u very lucky leh, so your small one will also gets in automatically. My boy used to be in Canberra, their chinese very teruk one.

Haha...we balloted and thank God we got it...an unbearable experience sitting in the hall waiting. My younger one will also get it...my older one graduate than the younger one P1 so no chance of seeing each other in school. Hahaha....

My son chinese also half past six, P1 still ok, P2 jialat liao...now so worried. Hope he buck up...sigh....

  6. Hi guys!

Thank u for de wishes spongebobmama!

Anyway, i wrote to the CC and claimed ive "just moved in" to the area. Asked a few qns about the neighbourhood. Apparently heres what I found out:

    1. There is a BBQ pit at Admiralty Drive for residents' usage. Booking at STC required.

    2. There is a Table-Tennis table at Blk 360A.

    3. Nearest Swimming Pool, Indoor courts & Stadium - Yishun

    4. Nearest Squash & Tennis Courts - YCK

    5. Nearest Basketball & Badminton courts - Area surrounding Blk 357

    6. Nearest Gym - Yishun. I have expressed my disappointment on this to the CC. They have set up a committee to discuss on this issue. I sure hope they will have one soon!

Any news on the Sembawang Shopping Centre? The NTUC Mart @ MRT has closed down. Our Sun Plaza has such limited shops but surprisingly has Yamaha, Library, M1, Singtel, Starhub. Basically just not enough well known clothes retail shops like Esprit or Gio. Eateries are sufficient but a Pizza Hut wld be nice yeah? ROFL!

More than 1/2 year liao leh...still just moved in? Kekeke...

    1. The bbq pit is behind blk 469, just renovated and near the canel, sometimes got smell.

    2. They just installed a new light right on top of the table, so sometimes 11.30pm ppl still playing :furious: I can hear the 'tok tok tok' from my house.

    3. If your kids learn swimming at Admiralty Hill Club, can take a dip there too, got a normal pool and deep pool :notti:

    4. Squash? Tennis? Wow...it's been a long time. Alternative got tennis court at SAFRA Yishun.

    5. Always got 'imported hunks' playing there

    6. Wow...they set up a committee for this!?!?!? :jawdrop:

Sembawang Shopping Centre suppose to open in Dec/Jan period. hope no delay. Northpoint extension should be opening this or next month.

SunPlaza have improved much liao...it was worst last year. Sakae used to be a forsaken chinese restaurant (kah hiang) and Popular used to be a huge hardware shop (like the mrt ntuc mart). Pizza Hut can call 62353535...heeeheee...MOS burger there is good. :dribble: I do hope some shops will make way soon (better dun mention which) for some more well know brands. Got SingPost at B1. Got bengawang, mr bean, fu hua, old chiang kee, angie, all I like :dribble:

will be moving in soon to sembawang.

anyone know if there is any after school care as i would like to put my kids there.

perhaps if there is any Montessori there as well.

    Thanks in advanced

Will your children be moving to schools near sembawang?

Not sure about sembawang new town area but along sembawang road near the 4 petrol stations (2 opp each other) there got a lot of landed houses, lots of childcare centre (Montessori included, think for at least 1 or 2) in the area. And I mean a lot, at least 6-10.

  7. You know the club opp sembawang shipyard is the CDAN club hse, the restaurant serve chinese food but don't think they got tim sum leh.

Very quite and nice place and if you are member also can swim there.

Sure can take picture of my hse but must wait for my boy to help me upload so that you can see coz I dunno how 2 do it. I do enjoy the space when I first shifted in but now sian liao after so many years. Too much maintenance, garden very big so must cut grass often and also the hse very old liao got alot of termites, ants, snakes, centipedes, cockroaches, rats and so on...... Most importantly the rental is going up to double of what I'm paying now so I'm moving out when my lease expires end of the year. You know, stay this kind of hse is nice to see but alot of work to do. Also old liao lah want to climb up and down very difficult, leg pain.

Ya...one big prob is the maintenance loh...big hse = huge maintenance work :D And termites is a huge problem.

I try to check out CDAN when I can :good:

I just took up photography so looking for nice place to take pictures, and these old house interest me...maybe I will just take up the courage and cheong to any of them and just take...kekeke...

colonial house? where? at the admiralty hills? huh? they have chalets up there also leh. now open for membership application.

don't talk about public pool in sembawang lar. i thought supposed to have some stadium near the CC. but until now i only see green green green green grass.

anyone tried the food at the "food court" @ sembawang mrt huh? is the food nice?

if i can have a wish list for sembawang...

    1. more buses to civilization aka town areas

    2. upgrade sun plaza

    3. swimming pool

    4. shoot down all the bicycles

    5. sheltered walkways everywhere. it's very very very sunny and hot in 38wang...

If you go to Montreal Drive blk 506A there, i think there is a gate that leads to all those old colonial type house. I at first thought no one stays there, but is surprise to see most of it occupied and a great community there.

As for amenities, Sembawang is simply too small liao, I think it's must be the smallest (or one of the smallest) town in Singapore, so amenities will be reeeeeeaaaaaaallllllllllllllll slooooooooooooooooow.

    1. Don't expect more buses anytime soon, stick to MRT.

    2. Sunplaza upgrade unlikely to come soon, look out for Sembawang Shopping Centre

    3. Swimming pool - I doubt

    4. Bicycles, just hope they don't build bicycle parking at the MRT which they are doing for Yishun MRT.

    5. Sheltered walkways - let's send emails to STC/MPs....this one more likely to happen.

    :notti:

  8. Keltong,

I like yr fan ceiling very much. Transparent blade issit? I want to get one for myself. Where to buy? Palace of Lights. How much? S$150+S$35. Sure not? Thot price like >S$200.00. Anyway what is the model/brand & size? Give details pls.

Sorry for taking the longest time to reply :P

It's wooden blade, not transparent and the brand is Amasco. Not too bad, so far so good. It's 52" if i remember correctly.

Hi keltong, i didn't select these units here 8-9 years ago bcoz the floor area very small. Many units were empty till now. Your unit opposite canberra pri sch? is your kids studying there? The sch got quite good review ( future sch).

Ya....it was left empty for sooooooo long and suddenly all taken up. The floor area in today's circumstances consider quite big liao...nowadays the new flats are even smaller. Faintz....

My unit if opp Canberra pri sch but "garden view"...wahahahaha.....but my boy not there, at Chong Fu in Yishun (where i used to stay), and younger one will not be in school till much later :)

Canberra is using IT to teach...but me and my wife prefer Chong Fu, with deep Chinese Culture. Heehee...

  9. Hey where have u bin? long time no hear! spammed your reno blog but so long u din reply.

The dragon pheonix restaurant's food is no big deal and quite ex! We went on a weekday to try the food, felt that they are too eager to serve. The moment we sat down, the captain starts to promote their 'signature dishes' even b4 i look at the menu. There's only 3 of us and we ordered abt 5 dishes and lots of tim sum and yet the push cart woman kept asking us if we wanted more. We haven't even started eating and during the meal, both the steamed and fried tim sum cart women kept pushing the carts to our table and ask us if we wanted more. Wah! so pissed off by them, can't even have a peaceful meal.

The food nothing to shout about and the tim sum so so. We felt that the har kau and woo kok not bad and the pineapple rice also quite nice.

Not a place to have a relax meal even though the surrounding seems to be so peaceful. Too many waiters and waitresses trying hard to please but for me it didn't worked.

I prefer the restaurant in cdan clubhouse opp the shipyard anytime.

And ya, I'm staying in the black and white colonial house but I not ang mo.

Heehee...paisei...have been bz with many other things...so sorry....

Think they are new so very eager loh...and not sure if the place can attract crowd boh...

Where is cdan clubhouse? Hmm...also got nice dim sum?

You staying at the colonial house ah...wow...how is it? Enjoy the space? Can go take picture? :P Not the inside lah...just the structure outside...heehee....

  10. Last year i went up that road but i tink it is still under construction so the security chase me out. :P So is the swimming pool open to public? standard olympic size? Cos now the nearest pool i go to is at Yishun there. If this one is open to public then can save me some time. jogging to and fro quite time consuming.

Nope...not open to public leh...don't think Sembawang will ever get a public pool. Hahaha...

  11. Hi! Heehee....long time never log in liao.

How's everyone? F1 just over, any1 catches it?

How's the price for the dragon pheonix restaurant huh? Wanna go try the dim sum. The place is call Admiralty Hill Club, the road leading up to it I think is call Old Nelson Road. Got 2 restaurant. The swimming pool is run by a swimming club call LifeStyle. My son is having his lessons there every Sat.

From Wellington side got a side gate can go into those colonial type housing, lots of ang mos staying there. A very nice environment. Nice big houses, but heard rental is in the range of 20K-30K per month. :bangwall:

But most people there very friendly and they can really do garden party!

  12. hey angelwrath, no i am working lah. hahah! i am teaching in a school. :)

Wow, you are a teacher! So is my wife. What school are you teaching?

hmmm wonder when sembawang shopping centre wil be done... the capitaland web says last quarter of 2008... which is soon right? quite exciting to see the building forming... can see them doing the main structure.... does anyone knw what shops there will be? will giant be back? hmmm

No idea, but by the looks of it, confirm better than previous 2 version of SSC. Heehee...coz Capital Land got the capital ($$$) so sure will be nice nice. And Northpoint Extension looks like going to be ready soon too. At least something to look forward to.

  13. final shipping charges is S$49 value exceeds S$400 so hv to pay gst. wat did govt do to deserve tat gst leh?? no service no goods from sg wat. :dunno:

oh realize gotppl are selling at ebay too :bangwall:

$49 is reasonable. Hmm....I'll try search around ebay too.

Anyway, ebay is selling at much cheaper price, try those accept "best offer" one. I got my Roomba 550 for USD250.

US$250 sounds tempting. How much did they charge for shipping? Did you ship direct or use one of those shipping agent?

  14. I used Bordexlinx. Shipping Amazon to Borderlinx Free. Shipping borderlinx to SG based on 15lbs, est S$48.49.

Ordered on Sat but bordexlinx expected to receive today. Will give the actual value then.

Hi Javabeans, any update on arrival and final shipping charges? If less than S$50 sound reasonable leh. Thanks!

  15. Finally fixing your pipe. Think the previous HDB contractor have some toxic **** in your pipe so no amount of chemical can help to clear. Just make sure when they are changing the pipe downstairs you dun **** at your master toilet, else I cannot imagine what will happen...hahaha....

Only 'wives' go for tea? What world are we living in?

    :bleah:

  16. buahahaha... that's funny... "abandoned wives" chamber... i hope i dun get abandoned for long periods... haha...

anyway... out of curiosity... have everyone staying ard here met up before or something? the only person i have met so far is karen... =P

wahpiang... if the door fell on me i think i wld have a heart attack!

abandoned wives chamber sounds like torture chamber leh.. *lolx*

actually after having my frn & her 2 kids over yesterday night, i kinda embrace the home alone & the quietness... hehehehehe... imagine 4 yr old boy & 5 mth old baby girl... the boy so hyper & noisy.. the baby cries 3 hrly for its milk & to be cuddled... zzz... noise pollution... so after such an experience, i really love being alone at times... *LOL*

ive seen... softballer & his wife, they came back few mths back during my reno to check things out... hehe... also met albertcs... sel have nt seen her personally but seen her pics.. hahaha... the rest... nt yet... supposed to have gathering with the "older" members but all MIA liao... haha

Yeah, I've only met 1 person, almost 2. Haha...maybe we should have a gathering sometime. I've try to organise one when I can, this few weekends quite bz, what with school re-opening and all. Maybe just a pot luck session or something, will see how. At least we know who to turn to in times of emergency :D

  17. I have build-on wardrobe only for my master bedroom. Kinda figured I won't change it since there is only 1 place I can put the wardrobe. I used the pole system for flexibility and to ensure the door reaches all the way to the top so that less place to clean.

My sons' room is the same ikea furnishing we bought many many years back and shifted twice. All color co-ordinated and we know likely we will change when they get older. Same for the guest rooms which we just use the normal wardrobe to save cost.

Our study are the same 5 ikea shelves we used for the past 10 years and is still going strong, again save cost for use and can change when we really want to (but we've been using it for 10 years, so unlikely we will change it anyway).

When it comes to odd corners, build in is the way to go, when you want to save cost, but those off the shelf is the way to go. Of coz, build in will look nicer compare to those normal wardrobes and easier (ok this depends) to maintain.

We do not like to many build-ins so that we can 'reconfigure' when we get bored but certain build-ins we feel are essentials.

    The choice is yours. :)

  18. dun tell me u diy this as well..

    then i really must

btw where did you get the clothes hanger thingy.. thinking of getting one if the door can close nicely..

borrow from u.. at the same time go over ur house to peep at all the diy stuff u do..

    learn some tips from u

If I DIY this I will be king of DIY. Hahaha....no no, don't think I can ever DIY my storeroom door.

The clothes hanger got from HomeFix, so far can close properly no problem. If you wanna borrow from me just let me know. Cheers.

does the bin come with a lid? i dun like lidless bins leh... later got smell... i got some "butterfly" bins from ikea... but hor... irritating... not good for kitchen...

hmm... u think the kitchen cabinet door will spoil easily if need to open the door to use the bin often?

    :dunno::dunno::dunno:

This one no lid, but I think they got 1 type with lid, but dun think can mount to the door. Kitchen door spoil easier, hmm, dun think will be tat bad. We like to mount in the door coz can save space under the sink to put other things, else put the bin liao will waste one space. So we took this, not too big, so once full will throw. If throw smelly stuff just maybe gonna bring it out to throw early. No choice, got to compromise a bit. Also, mount inside looks nicer, no bins in the kitchen :P

  19. Thanks so much for ur detailed advice keltong.. :good: sorry long time nv check this thread.. since everyone (mostly) is discouraging me from getting a resale now, guess i'll wait for the Oct balloting.. must pray hard hard n save more more more $$$ hee :yamseng:

Important is buy within your means. And if possible, try not to dump every last dollar of your monthly CPF contribution into repayment of housing loan. Save for a rainy day....and it's raining quite heavily now (literally at my workplace). :D

Spot on and sound advise. Our first falt at Sin Ming Ave was re-sale but we didn't take grant. When a walk-in unit at AMK (brand new unit, altho blk already abt 5yr + old), we were able to off load first falt quickly as our obligation to stay was only 2.5 yrs.

Lost abt 10K on the 1st flat but nebbermind. Bought AMK 5RM for 317K (inc legal+stamp duty). Current mkt value now abt 450K.

The grant will lock you in for 5 yrs and you will not be able to seize an opportunity of one became available.

Cool, how I wish 10 years ago someone tell me this. I have to learn the hard way, and now I am against grant (ok against it in most situation and not all situation). Haha...maybe I should start a campaign against it or something :P
