  5. Talking about the placement of sofa.... my mother in law is a believer of fengshui but I am not.... She keeps telling me that my sofa must be against the wall..... But my living area is a rectangular shape... I dun like to have my TV in the centre of nowhere... no wall behind.... so she suggest putting the TV against my windows... My hubby current home is this way.... so she keep saying thats its good... I find it totally weird if I open my windows and see people walking behind my TV all the time.....(They closed their windows...) I even dreamt of her keep telling me that in the end, my husband relent and place it according to her wishes....
  6. My hubby tells me that its best that we just hack the floor and wall tiles and change.... He dun want any troubles in the future... Anyway, I am tired of visiting IDs already... Think I will start chasing for quotes and meet for revised quotes soon.... We visited quite some number to get ideas... so well, time to push for quotes....
  7. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13577 My new home has.... but I converting it... so its not condo style of rest and relax de....
  8. I am also sourcing for ID now for my flat.... Haiz... at first, one tell me all overlay can le... Then a uncle contractor says, not safe to relay wall tiles... especially the shape is rectangular de... cos got gravity......best is to hack and replace it. But floor tiles, its okay to relay.... dun hack, waste efforts only.... Then went to another ID, tell me that the usual sequence is to lay floor tiles first then do wall tiles in all flats... so after hacking off wall tiles, and replace it, if dun replace floor tiles, then only relay, will have a small small edge which will not be noticable but water may seep through and cause leaking.... Now totally confused... who is correct?

  10. wow... great idea... will do just that... Actually, the reason is that the person doing painting for us will be my hubby's relative.... so its abit difficult to tell him that I want two coats
  11. ane, sorry... i still trying to find out if what he said is true... hmm... well, have to ask more I havent engaged him too.... I am still in the process of searching only....
  12. Hmm... the one attended to me was abit new.... haha.... When I showed floor plan, he looked at me, then my hubby say, you have a printer? then he went to make a copy Then when he came back, he didnt bring a pen... haha... then I asked him if he need a pencil? Then he go off to take... haha... but he was sincere lar.... After we finished talking, he offered to show us around the showroom even though it is off his working hours le..... We went off after he said he will send us a quote.... still pending though.... My hubby feels comfortable lar.... cos this guy was brutally honest with us... Told us not to change toiletbowl positioning and not to hack the wall cos will be costly.... Told me not to take stainless steel and tempered glass for my kitchen... told me that there are cases that customers complain cos stainless steel need to wipe often... and tempered glass broke before... so better not take.... Told us not to build bar counter cos if fixed, difficult to change.... But he advised something that cost more..... He advised not to overlay... if I hack my kitchen and toilets wall tiles, then better that I hack my floor tiles and not re lay... If re lay, it is difficult and there is a risk that water will seep through from side separating the wall and floor and may cause leaking next time.... unless of course, can find a really good contractor... but he say difficult so better not... Just hack off the floor and wall tiles and re do.....
  13. So I c.... must install aircon first before the renovation.... I didnt know that at all.... BTW, just asking, what if the contractors decide to enjoy the aircon? since its there.... I dun mind them using lar... but 24/7 then my electricity bills will kill me.... Also, I went to an ID, he says painting is only done after all renovation is done... no two times de... normal?
  14. thanks for the experiences shared.... I went into their main showroom and the person who attended to me was quite okay... In fact, he gave me some new insights on how to keep budget low.... Anyway, I am waiting to see if he really give me a quote back..... My personal take is that maybe he is a new bird and so more sincere in wanting to help....
  15. 10k for a kitchen.... the mind something wrong ar??? haha the ID told me 100% arcylic is the same or more expensive than granite... Then 60% arcylic is only $80 pf.... so should i just go for the 60%..... my friend one broke... even though hers is life time warranty... supposed to be 100% arcylic de and she dun cook very often.....
  16. Hi, Anybody has any comments on them? saw that they have a big showroom and seems to be quite big.....
  17. okay... i went to an ID today... He told me, hack kitchen wall tiles then surely must hack floor tiles too... overlay, risky cos the angle and the water will seep on the edge and cause easy leaking... Unless dun touch the wall tiles... hope this helps
  18. today went to an ID... he told me that red looks nice but not lasting to the owners of the house after some time... best to go for light cool colours... better for eyes... and alot of things, he advised not to do.... haha... Save money lor... haha
  19. I went to a ID today. He told me that if everyday use, the best solid top to use is still granite..... Around 120 to 130 pf....
  20. I intending to change the position of my WC and basin so the contractors say that will affect the floor and wall....
  21. haha.... now got better idea on what to do for renovation le..... hope that it wont be too expensive
  22. hihi bun bun, I am such a blur queen..... actually my tiles are white with grey... haha... so blur sia.... I at first thought it was green... only when i went to take a 2nd look yesterday then realised it is white with grey.... Wondering if i do bright red kitchen cabinets, look good?
  23. Junkay, Hopefully that contractor is the honest type... haiz... now looking at my exam notes and thinking of renovation at the same time... haha.... Decide not to do L Box because my own sister did hers and told me that she regretted... she has no ceiling lights and so the L Box lights are her only lights and she hates it cos it is so hot after it is on..... Therefore, think we are keeping to the original.... ceiling lights.... haha.... I am so funny... I always thought that my floor tiles is abit greenish... I went up yesterday night and found that it is white lar... with just a bit of grey.... haha.... My hubby was saying... white with abit of grey match with all colours le lar.... so anything goes... just dun like disco like that can le... keep it simple... haha.... We are actually very attracted by the recent trend of building chilli red kitchen cabinets... glossy and bright... but thinking if it is practical... haha.... Thanks diva, haha... just realised that colours can really make or kill a place... haha....
  24. We discussed and discussed and in the end, we decide that no more L Box.... Met up with a contractor that my friend used the last time yesterday night. We described to him what we wanted to be done. He discourages epoxy painting... says that it looks clean and nice but not lasting de.... He tells us to hack off the wall tiles and relay...... haiz.... Then he commented that if I move my bathroom positioning here and there, may affect the floor tiles but he encourage me to over lay instead of hack..... Even kitchen, he says over lay better for floor since I want to knock off the existing concrete support so may affect the tiles.... However, when we ask him for a rough guide, he told us that all the renovation is achieveable under 20k.... Hopefully he is right.... He even tell us that he will bring us to buy our own toilet bowls, basin and choose tiles....He says that toilet bowls, usually he recommend to buy $180 de.... no need too pretty de... practical can le....??? anyway, want to ask for advice..... since overlay, then it means that I dun need to fit to the blue flooring of my kitchen already.... my living room floor tiles are ceramics... white with hints of light green... what are the best colours to match? My husband hates green so I cannot decorate my home in green.... haiz... I am super terrible with colour combination... I thought of choosing all white for everything, including wall colour but find it difficult to maintain and also boring..... But want to brighten up my home... haiz...... think about the colour till my head big sia....
  25. HiHi, I am terrible with colours and so if tiles are ceramics, white with faint green as design, what colours go well with it?
