Is it possible to install downlights without having to build a false ceiling? I like to maintain the ceiling height.

Are they any downlight that is enclosed in a casing without any ballast?

Yes, you can install downlights shape type of ceiling lights.

As for Ballast, u can always use E27 energy saving bulbs if u dun like the ballast.

yes, will see the base of the dowlight. i dont mind. giving an industrial look. it is like a can or tub hanging on the ceiling. hence no false ceiling is needed.

some people will think that is protruding and ugly...

i believe u call that a flush mount, flush with the ceiling n mount on it...no gap.
