Aircon - Daikin V Mitsubishi Heavy Industries V Mitsubishi Electric

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am changing all the aircons in my house, and I have the same problem as many of you. Which air-con to choose? I googled and found conflicting experiences for different people. Did some research and came to the following conclusions based on my own checklist. If you have any views, please share.

Based on my past experiences with Daikin, Carrier, Toshiba, Mitsubishi and Panasonic, I have narrowed down to Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Electric (ME).

COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE: I am told they are all made in Thailand. So no difference. All win.

FOCUS: Daikin specialises in air-conditioning equipment. ME manufactures lots of electrical stuff while MHI makes just about everything from aerospace products to ships. Winner here should be Daikin.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION: Was told that MHI compressor most energy efficient. Brochure claims "industry leading energy efficiency". ME, "No. 1 specialist in energy saving", should be a close second while Daikin technology is apparently a few years behind. Winner is MHI.

NOISE: ME is quiet, as low as 19dB. Brochure claims quieter than sound recording studio (25dB) and empty concert hall (30dB). Noisiest is apparently Daikin. ME wins here.

USER CLEANING: We have all watched the TV advertisement where Jack Neo demonstrated how easy it is to clean the ME StarMex. The others don't have this ability. One vendor claims after many times cleaning, the parts may become loose and make some noise, but this is disputed by others. I will give Jack Neo the benefit of the doubt and declare ME the winner here.

FEATURES: The winner here should me MHI with all kinds of features including 24 hour ION, 3D auto airflow, self clean operation, allergen clear filter, natural enzyme filter and photcatalytic washable deodorizing filter etc etc. ME also has many features but not so many.

SERVICE SUPPORT: This probably depends very much on your air-con installer and servicing contractor. Nevertheless, in the event of a failure which requires the attention of the manufacturer, I guess you can call upon either Daikin Singapore or Mitsubishi Electric Singapore. As for MHI, I guess you have to call upon Wo Kee Hong Marketing Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor here. I would put both Daikin and ME as winners here.

PRICE: By all accounts, MHI is cheaper than ME, while Daikin is more expensive by a few hundred dollars. So, MHI wins here.

Final score is Daikin 3, MHI 4 and ME 4. Alamak, now still have to choose between MHI and ME.
