L-shaped Kitchen...my Door Will Knock To Another Door
Kari replied to bubblepearl's topic in Carpentry Works
this is a old post. but i oso face tis problem. Mine worse. I dun even have handles yet my doors are knocking agst each other cos of the L shape. Pls advise solutions and the appropriate allowance the doors sld be from each other. Thanks -
yeah i'm still holding on to more than 10%. She told me I can hold the 10% for as long as I want until I'm satisfied but not more than tat. She told me not to worry, that she'll rectify the problems. But God knows when cos none was done. One good example. I told her to repaint cos I dun like the white patches on my wall. SHe said the painters had already painted 3 coats, so ask me to wait until capentry is up, then the painters will touch up again. I told her i'm worried the paint will stain my capentry, she told me they will cover and protect. Then I told her I dun want touch up cos my paint is not pentalite, touch up is very ugly. must paint the whole wall. she said no prob. But i find it stuipd cos isn't painting a bare wall easier than painting a wall with capentry? The only plus point was the reno was done quite quickly. She takes initiative to do things (sometimes w/o informing me, which can be a plesant surprrise or shock at times lol) But I dun understand why she cannot do the rectifications at once. She always asks me to wait. macham must wait until everything's up and reno completed then she rectify the defects all at one time. tats how i feel la. But then I oso worry if i give her the $ and jus holiding the 10%, she may not do all the rectifications as onli 10% nia. headache

My instructions to my contractor was simple. I want 3 columns. First column to cover HHS door, 2nd column for shoe cabinet and the 3rd column with door tat open by the side for other storage purposes. So no exact measuremnts was given. I assume my contractor or the carpenter should know best how much space to give for each column. Of course I expect the measurements they do is based on the length of the wall, so I was shocked to see that the HHS feature wall is not flushed. Can I reject this kind of work even when the door is up and the HHS feature wall already done?
-
HHS Feature wall not flushed agst wall. Acceptable? The carpenter said he followed my given measurements but I felt he could have asked whether I can accept this protruding door not align with my wall! Or to tell me the problem so that I can tell him perhaps to reduce the measurments and not die die follow the given ones! I'm not the expert carptener. I cant possibly be calculating the thickness of the plankwood, deduct them from my desired measurements to get the exact measurements to give them right? If they die die want to follow my measurements, then how come for my kitchen cabinets, they din? They give excuses tat it's not possible cos they have to take into consideration of the plankwood thickness. [faint] I understand they may not have the sense of aesthetic, but who doesn't want their wardrobes and cabinets to flush agst the walls? who likes protruding doors?

Does anyone has such gaps btw the toilet floor and the laminate flooring ?
-
Hey thanks! but what did ur contractor do to cover up? looks like placing a metal strip over? but if you cover up the gap, is it difficult to open the casement window since its handle is at the bottom. Will it difficult to hold the handle to push or pull the window open/close?
-
Thanks. I go check it out. Really appreciate the help. Do you have photos on how you level up the gap?
-
yeah all the dust trapped. so ur gap oso tat big? when they cover the gap, is there additional charge? haven't spoken to my contractor on tis yet. so wanna check out first. thanks

hi ivy. No prob. I learnt alot here at RT too. oso need others to advise me. Now talking abt my stupid window grills. The orignal window ledges are sloped. How does the window installer install the grills if I din't level up the ledge? Just cos i level the ledge, he conveniently use my level up to nail his grills. So can i check how does other homeowners who did not do the levelling at Tanglin Halt install their grills ? Greatly appreciate the feedback!

My window grills : I don't like the gap. It's eatting into my pretty laminates! Cos it's casement window with handle at the bottom, the gap has to be bigger but must it be really so big! aiyo
-
well it's not really the metal series! those are very X! haha. this is the small piece. hope it helps. Actuali i realize you can insist your contractor to bring you to the laminate company to look at the big piece sample. can really make a more accurate judgment. It's too late for me. So hope you can do tat before the laminate's up!
-
It's EDL Laminate. Product code : EFP 2748G. The small piece looks like metallic grey (to me very nice) but the whole piece looks different. Effect disappointing (at least to me)

Hi Weii, sorry for the late response. My MBR Wardrobe doors are up! Love it. Taken at the MBR door entrance the other end of the wardrobetaken near the toilet door the whole wardrobe. Sorry din take the other side of the wardrobe tat opens from the side

Hey aubrey, applefreak is correct. my carpenter said it's 21" (53cm). so if ur depth for full length is less than that, then ur clothes will be crumpled. dun think you want tat. Advise is go home and measure the depth of ur exisitng wardrobe. (cos cannot 100% belleve contractor cos the longer ur wardrobe, the more they earn per ft unless ur contractor is honest guy) IMHO, a smaller wardrobe is better than a longer wardrobe with crumpled clothes. Unless ur parents are small in built, then maybe their clothes oso smaller size can put in shallow wardrobe? Or else maybe full length but increasing depth. Shallow at the door, then standard depth from the green line onwards? dunnoe ugly anot of course.

HHS Feature Wall, more or less completed: now covered up the last piece of mirror dunnoe when they will glue. Actuali need to check with you guys. When 2 pieces of wood is nailed together, there will also be 2 pieces of laminated glued to the wood surface. So when the carptenter use his tool to smooth the edges of the joint wood, the laminate may be polished off, hence exposing the wood underneath. Is tat acceptable? Havent take photos of close up yet to show. Then they use silicon to glue the exposed area, the white silicon oso smudged and colored the laminate white (very obvious agst black laminate) so can remove the silicon? I haven't ask my carpenter yet cos I see them so busy, dunnoe whether these are nitty gritty details or jus tat I'm overly fussy

i guess ur hub noes you best and what you want but dun dare to do, so he encourage u to take what you like. so sweet. well i guess no handles means less things to wipe lol so i din want any handles. plus dun want my kids to knock agst the handles when they run ard blindly.
-
wow mrspiglet i love ur white kitchen but i'm not so brave. ur open concept kitchen is so cool with the door plus ur toilets. really can understand why you so angry when they pollute it. Then ur contractor oso so nice gave u 3 glass panels. Seems tat few people go for kitchen handles now. oso a 45 degree slope in for the drawers and cabinets?
-
ur contractor sure power. PUt his bare hands in! [Faint] well thanks for the advice. sure will check whether any foreign objects floating ard. lol. headache right when tis kind of thing is mutual understanding, unspoken rule to keep one's house clean. haiz
