  1. Should be simple, it's a matter of material used, ask your contractor this 1) If you just do a long rectangular one, how many feet is that? (his answer will be 10 feet) 2) Then ask him if you add in the two legs of the U, how much total material is used? If he still say 2 x 10 feet, tell him he has failed his maths. For example 30 ft x 2 ft = 60 ft square of material (if super long rectangular table) If he can come up with 60ft square for the U shape, asked him to show you where all the material fit into, on top of each other??
  2. For good eyesight maintenance, get one of those 3M distributed lights. Got the clamp version, cheapest I found was from mustafa or if you are not near M, get from popular bookshops (difference a few $ so no point take transport to M). Another good consideration (after I bought my 3M lamps) is the LED lamps. Because they are longer, the light can give you more coverage (vs 3M), these LEDs lamps are available at Challeger Funan, and I saw a version at those DIY shops at Novena. Note: the BRIGHTNESS of the lights are not as important as the 'quality' of the lights. That is why 3M lights gives a better eyesight protection as the lights frequency are regulated and distributed. It's a few $ but it really protects your eyesight.
  3. Thanks for the info. Good mean it must be protection like a tank, but moves like a ferrari, energy is FOC (ie daddy legs), best got solar power lol....
  4. It's the same problem....if it goes up by 2 fold (which will come as historical property prices shows)....then after selling where to stay? Or migrate out? By the time we finished paying our housing loan for 30 years, the interest plus principal would be equal 2 flat prices and that's only 2.6%...given that inflation is lets say 5%, its the same money 30 years later.
  5. Thinking of buying a good bicycle to ferry my boy to and fro from childcare, very taxing on the wallet to take 4 bus services each day. 1) Anyone know where is the bicycle shops in Bedok? If there is one 2) Any good recommendation of bicycle for the task? I saw those black horse with cargo bar at the back where most people strap a child seat on it. Already route out the travelling plan, minimal traffic so low chance of accidents Thanks
  6. oops....BO stay there hor Okay give face....which block don't have any LGers yet?
  7. is it a fat one with slightly bald head? He is the defacto fertilizer for all the plants, but there is none at the fitness corner leh.... Any other workers do that cut off their....**** But seriously, this is the 'standard' with our construction site. I did a 4 months stint during one of the attachment back in school days, building the Seagate woodlands factory that consisted of many clean rooms. The issue is that the ceiling is very high and many of the workers climb up there, bring along their packet drinks (lazy to climb down) and later use them to tie their urine and hang there. So you can see like hundreds of these hanging all over the ceiling structure. After that, the super expensive filters' were installed below them and these filters are what gives the clean room effect, ie 0.001 micron particles inside a class 10 room (for your harddisk wafer). I was like well one of these day one of these plastic chemical bomb will drop down and splatter all over the top of the filters and it will smell.......and I wonder how are they going to service the clean room then.. do highlight to the project office, Miss Jovi. I think if they provide latrine, or if the worker urinate on the glass still okay (lesser of 2 evils), but if on structures such as fitness corner, or pillars or those wash areas, next time we will suffer.
  8. Who say anything about below 220B?....ha ha, of course we bring them nearer to 219C or..... Anyway, already tons of wax stain by the offerings made by the contractors 30 August....especially at corners. Some areas also smell of urine..
  9. lol, my han yu pin yin scored F9.... Ordering from the states is okay, i used ebay for more than 10 to 15 years and shipping has now become so much cheaper with services like vpost and stuff. Electronics stuff are by luck one, no problem it works all the way, once got problem, 10 years warranty also no use as the time and $ incur is so much higher. If the roomba spoiled, get a RMA number, ship it back via ground (takes about 7 weeks), but least it will cheaper. I estimate $400 to $500 for one such robot, so $1 a day is okay to own one (1 years warranty so estimate 365 days lifespan), saves you time for cleaning. Throw in some $ for the electricity. Usefullness...well I guess its a vacuum and if it does go over the same room area 4 times, it would at least be 70 to 80% effective. I see how...if I win the bid, the earliest one will reach me is 10 days time which is just nice for my moving in. BTW. This coming 13 or 14 is the lantern festival or something? My wife organising a small lantern go around for kids, home base is my flat, play area should be go to ground floor walk around with the lantern. Anyone wants to particiate can consider....
  10. Because I'll be moving in this month, with all the renovation you guys are still doing, will have lots of dust that I won't have enough time to sweep So the plan is to let the robot loose during the day time, it will vaccuum all the rooms before I get home and will hide in the corner. My boy boy will be more interested in the doggies Big orange and doglover have
  11. Hey guys, am seriously considering irobots, roomba and scooba. The first one vacuums and the second one mop (lazy me )...should be getting and shipping them from the states as they are cheaper. Anyone has experience with any of these robots?
  12. Who says Singaporean not creative? ha ha, Acutually long long long long long time ago if I had the capital i would have set up food stalls with the name "Shou Pian" aka "Whatever....anything" (like that drinks can who stole my idea)....because since young everytime my mum asked me what to buy for lunch (for me), we will reply 'shou pian lar'.... 95% going to buy the Panasonic V80 or V8 42inch Plasma TV. Mega selling at $1499 for V80 (after deducting all freebies), and HN selling $1599 V8 (with $200 NTUC vouchers I believe). Heard they have a few more units left so after comex still can get at that price. I did a bit of research and plasma better than LCD in terms of motion based movies (0.001 m/sec plasma vs 4 ms LCD). HD ready is sufficient for now as there is limited signal source for Full HD unless you are buying 'chicken' as per Big Orange. I can't afford blue ray player so don't even want to talk about blue ray movies. 5 years later when the Full HD signals are here I'll upgrade or somehting.
  13. Choosing my TV...maybe at this comdex I read through the thread on LCD vs Plasma and got a few questions for those who know more B-) a) Do we really need Full HD? Given that I am not frequently going to watch blue ray, HDDVD or even most channels not Full HD yet...anybody using those HD Ready sets got any comments? b) Plasma I can see it's much better than LCD, in terms on contrast and response time. Anyone using LCD TV and has experience with bad stuff like bluring images during actions such as sports, can't see this or that? I got this "fact or fiction" between plasma and LCD from pioneer webby c) Anyone went to comdex and found a good deal? I Saw 1) JVC, the super slim LCD LT-42S90 for $2099 and one of my top choice is 2) Sharp Aquos LC-42A83M for $2599 d) Any truth to those 100Hz, 120Hz thing? Thanks
  14. I do hope you have taken photos as evidence?
  15. sounds like my ID ha ha, Nope, don't pay anything. The verbal contract and specification you gave they did not comply with the work. So no need to pay. Ask her to remove the item ASAP or else you will charge her for any delays in usuage AND also time/manpower cost to remove her obstructions. If she not happy, she can go small claims to claim you, it will cost her $50 to do so....and you can call case to claim back from her. Stand firm....
  16. how many years warranty? After having bad experience with my ID, I cancel my wardrobe with them and went to closetdesign. They having a promotion on, I think 8ft for $2.4K? Plus very customisable accessories and aluminium structures which allows me to change my config next time. TEN years warranty. Wardrobe is one of the item that we use EVERYDAY, so it is the most worthwhile item to spend on. I can recommend one guy at closetdesign. You can go to their showroom at Balestier to see the setup. Quite nice. If you buy from those in the furniture shops, defintely cheaper. If you going to get all the way up, plus customised items, then ID/carpenter/wardrobe specialist are the choice. Depends on your budget and also maintenance. With full height wardrobe, you get sealed enclosure that xiao qiang or mosquito can't hide behind or under the wardrobe, dust etc. (of course you must keep doors open lah).
  17. Wait...is the photo going to be with the same guy you married?
  18. Saw your signature your curtain is 'done'...hee hee, when can we see it?
  19. My 4 room they are the contractor, $1688 I think (check my previous post). They will come on 6 Sep to install. You want a possible contact? My grill installer today gave me a lift to site as they were installing my grills, he also do curtain, direct from korean source so no middle man fees, normal $30 per meter outside shop he will give about $23 per meter...comes to around $1.2 or $1.3K for the 'same' thing he says. Note: curtains has a lead time of around 3 weeks for them to sew the material together, so you have no hurry, he is also doing other work around LG, so if you want he can bring down some material to show you. But I think it's best you go around shops to look at the materials first, find what you need (ESPECIALLY how lasting are the materials in direct sunlight, washing, shrinking). Heard from him singapore only got 6 to 7 distributors, all selling china or korean stuff. Some specialized ones selling USA/Eurpean materiarl at $65 per meter. The composition of polyster and cotten will determine if your curtain will shrink when washed (100% cotten more shrink), while sunlight will degrade some cheap material. Note: I got no experience with this contact for curtain, he is however in the biz for 30 over years (so he says), he also does those window solar film..... Am yearning for durian again since last time those visitors 'forgot' to bring smelly fruits....
  20. Here is the update of the MBR door issue...I love it After the carpenter helped me to saw off the screw, I patch it up with some plaster... The door can now swing all the way nearly touching the wall! Wow, what a breath of fresh air (ha ha) If you looked closely, the door 'naturally' reached its max angle of swing and didn't hit anything, not even the furthest protruding item, the HDB tap as shown. So I am still considering if I want to put back a upper stopper or just let it naturally rest like that. Note: This option may be difficult for those who are installing shower screen. With my current setup, i can close the MBR door and whatever I do in the toilet is privacy liao. If I need to shower, then has to close the bathroom door...if not
  21. Why not try something like E-saver from standchart, or the equivalent from OCBC, or even Maybank. These accounts are saving account but there is no bankbooks, statements etc. All accounts are internet based, so if you need the monies, transfer to your regular savings account then withdraw out. The rates are okay and there is no lock in fixed period unlike fixed deposit. I got mine from signing up with NTUC member, got their NTUC/OCBC platinum card (called NTUC Linkplus or something), it comes with 'that' saving account which I can withdraw via ATM, if not using, the interest around 1%....oops, esaver just reduced their interest rate to pathetic....sigh
  22. Tangs maybe have them...if you don't mind 2nd hand, check out the expat forums for garade sales
