  1. morgulboy, what dimension is the carpet you brought in. $400 for shimmer type is nice leh.
  2. Hi Honeygal, for your tiles, you should ask the shop to come up and have a look, mine was from liansenghin, i went personally to talk to their manager and he arranged someone to come and look into the problem. i am pretty sure they can point fingers at any of my contractors as i found out from someone that tiles usually doesnt comes with much warranty as you are suppose to check it before accepting but still they readily agree to "try" help me with it so thumbs up for them. You know,by right the tilers are suppose to do the QA. really dunno why we are paying these ppl for nowdays. our money so easy to earn meh. Reach the point during my reno experience whereby i dont even find out who or why it happen. did that #*@&@ painter wash my place with chemical rendering the glossy layer null thus letting the paint seeped into the tile or was it a lousy batch from the factory. doesnt matters as such a big thing no one will admit anyway. only concern is whether it could be fixed. i'll suggest you get someone from hafary to come have a look if your main contractor can't help you. paint spots for window or anything metallic or rough, can use an old plastic card or your finger nails like some had suggested. for smooth floor i used a penknife blade and scrap it off. its taxing but i prefer to scarp it myself then let the cleaner's bangalas do. while doing the scraping, i usually curse and swear @ the painter. it makes the time easier to pass.
  3. went to the tile shop last week & they came to view my tiles. suprisingly....the guy readily admit the tiles had some problems. wow, he really got me concerned with his frankness & willingness to rectify the issue. arranged a buffing session or whatever. hopefully it will turn out fine if not dont think i can live with it. wish i can take some pics but tried from various angles but the 'patches' just doesnt show up on cameras. its like what happens to mirrors when you splash them with water, let them dry & look into it.haiz.
  4. wow, the greenery around your house is breathtaking! wish i can get a place like that one day. can i ask how does the polyurethane paint feels on touch please? is it kinda like those sqeeky coating on the floors of car workshops. wondering if can use on my blacony too. as the painted ledge always felt very 'powdery' whenever i rest my arms on them while taking-5. btw, your projector is below your aircon? quite hazardous leaving such gear under it. i ever had a choked aircon pipe without realising it till the aircon suddenly waterfall right ontop my tv while i was sleeping. after that incident i try to keep my electical stuffs away from them.cos we can know aircon spoil when it's not cool etc but piping we might only know when it starts to waterfall.
  5. nope, not yet checked with the tile shop.not sure if anyone used anything not recommended on the tiles. my worst thought is the paint splatter seeped into the tiles. but not point speculating unless concrete proof is available to cliam damage from the bugger. now that you mentioned it, realised the tile shop will have my record as i remember their invoicing is done with owner's address & billed to contractors/id. i basically have paint splatters all over my house sia. window planes, laminated skirtings, aircon unit etc etc, anything under or beside something painted by them is splattered with paint spots. Got lotsa splatter on my matt black tiles too. rough surface tile some more. cannot use the "blade" method. gotta use fingernail chip off 1 by 1...when i confronted the painter boss via the phone,he shouted at me sia..wah..wanna tell him nvm, i'll PAINT his house TOTALLY FREE back for making him angry. but he hang up before i can say anything else. haiz. LL make peace & walked it off.no point argue with scoundrel.
  6. My tiling was completed couple of months ago, had yet to move in and still tying up some loose ends for the reno. sigh..it seems the loose ends doesnt stop.recently after the final wash, i notice the floor wasnt as shiny as compared to the first 2 wash. scratches aside, there seem to small patches all over the tiles. so now the shine is very uneven and lacking alot, its like i have a matt and glossy hybrid tile. It's hardly able to reflact anything evenly even with the downlight shining directly above it. it used to be have this clean mirror like reflection like all glossy tiles. Wondering if anyone has the same problems or can help enlighten me. as we all know. the fingers starts pointing when crap arise. My id says it's the protective wax fading off. once it all fades off, the shine will be back. really sounded like his trying to smoke me as not all the tiles are affected. my cleaner says he can polish it up for me the get the shine back but my id says it's not needed and will render the tiles more prone to scratches when i start moving in all my furnitures and move in. my other concern is that the painter had washed my tile with chemical, as the whole flooring is actually splatter with tiny drops of paints so tiny i need to scrap them off with a penknife blade to remove them. is there a possibilty the paint seeked into the tile surface thus staining it?? as the portion most affect by the patches actually had the most paint splatter. sigh.
  7. well, gotta cut the sales guy some slack. he was merely doing his job & i bet his boss would be very satisfied to have such a 'talented' employee,as he managed to sway your decisions for a moment. i mean what can he do when he was approached by you, someone whom already had a product in mind. serving you in the purchase of the european brand ~ KENA COMPLAIN with boss. promoting his employer's brand by deflaming other brands ~ KENA COMPLAIN TOO. nowdays really hard to make a living sia.haha.poor thing.
  8. no choice sia, if its wall then ok would just DIY. but ceiling will be hard to do for me as my problem is the whole ceiling. not just patching up various places.went to see the job, they like screed the whole ceiling. i reckon its about $500 for labour, judging by the price. quite ex infact for a 1 day job. nvm la. cannot live with it so gotta spend and no confidence even if its really that easy like you said. btw, how serious your ceiling, is it better after you DIY? how long did it took you to fix it?
  9. id says wallpaper cannot find pure white type so i told him not doing wallpaper le. The $650 doesnt include sealant or painting. just plastering of the ceiling wor. too expensive already ah? what should be the rough cost? do they count by per feet run or something? saw they using those type of powder plaster which you gotta mix with water, used about 2 pack max only for my job. not sure good enough or not. thought it was a bucket of ready made ones. my living room is inverted Lbox for cove lighting, dont have false ceiling le. original HDB ceiling done at its "BEST". even my id said he hardly see hdb ceiling so "GOOD" de. which is why he didnt forsee the ceiling issue. once i switched on the lights,he also shake head.
  10. Was quoted $650 to plaster living room ceiling only. the area should be around 6x5m ba, ID told me to pay contractor directly so i guess its not marked up ba. anyone knows if the price quoted for the job is ok?
  11. congrats on new place. very good layout! btw, shifting the door back might cost quite abit wor. door frames are expensive. cost about 1k for frame and door i think,u gotta hack the area out for the door to fit in and plaster back where it was now. think the whole door shift cost 2k at least. but the door gotta go for sure, not sure if you "pangtang" or not. but 3 doors in a room + room-in-room usually not good de... not sure if u are into wiw bo. the area outside the toilet is like fated to be wiw area!!haha. maybe you can hack away the storeroom to enlarge the bedroom and use it as a relax corner or study/pc area lo.think will be quite nice.
  12. thx for suggestion but cant do fans to hide the ceiling as wifey has overhead fan phobia & dont think i am capable of diying the whole ceiling.afraid of making things worse. Haiz, really spoils the living rm.. once the lights are on, the whole ceiling became like an "inverted white desert", dunno how to express it. tml try take a pic to see if it can show.
  13. After my lightings are up. realised the ceilings uneveness very obvious after we switched on the covelights and its too late to construct a false ceiling as i gotta remove the Lboxes to do that. Totally mislooked the ceiling issue. ID suggested plastering or wallpapering the ceiling instead. but plastering will cost me about $1k & doesnt garantee smoothness, ontop of that, will need to repaint wallpaper will be slightly cheaper but was told not lasting. wondering too if there are full white wallpapers.looks pretty strange to wallpaper the ceilings imo. now kinda not sure if i should do the plastering due to budget... is there any other ways to lesser the uneveness shown when the lights are on? will changing the lights to a softer ones help?currently using warm white. very bright. or maybe painting a few more coats of paint? ceilings are white, maybe a colored paint choice will lessen it too? anyone can help with possible solutions please?
  14. true to a certain point ba, HDB ceiling all slanted de. the slant comes at different places more obvious, mine is very obvious at the tv wall side. my Lbox YY de. those contractors knows it but choose the follow the floor level. they'll tell you blame hdb for everything slanted and leave it as it is,tell you ITS LIKE THAT DE! hear liao sure boil de.keke..they never heard of the word~ IMPROVISE meh.pengz.. catch the level abit and adjust top & bottom lo. since its slanted no point making bottom level too ma. in the end still slanted.pengz.
  15. think tv console all like that de ba, i tried looking at some books on shop/retail design cos webby oso cant find much. found a couple very chio ones from those euro fashion retail outlets and suggest using it as the console. my id say not feasible as will see a hike in fabrication cost. workmanship not garanteed good too as the common carpenter only can do so much. curves and bends are hard to do well. so usually ppl invest in wallpapering the console rather then changing the 'common' square/rectangle shape he say. find the layout he give you quite strange leh. the sofa there means you'll be sitting backfacing the entrance. dunno you belive in fengsui bo. but as owner and you cannot directly see who enter your place sitting backfacing to the entrance, not very good to the mental well-being actually. tv console put on the painting wall is better ba, you can see ppl at door but ppl cannot see you cos their angle blocked by the shoe cabinet. haha. or maybe you can link the shoe cabinet together with the console as 1 whole thing.something like the sealy or serta showroom, forgot which le.saw at IMM. very chio.
  16. the chrome water pipe & basin bottom trap not ex la...$28 only. my invoice nvr show individual price leh. think usually ppl buy as a set ba.. i used it in the kitchen toilet, cos its small & compact..MBR toilet we hack away the 'orbit' vanity top by HDB to build our own lo. decided to not do the window grilles first so can use the $ on the vanity cabinet lo cos we dont have kids yet too and it'll prolly be like 5yrs down the road if we ever need a grille to guard a walking kid. by then. maybe good price can sell the unit liao.keke.dont need do at all maybe.
  17. Hehe, thx from pics really look quite big.but stand here become very small liao dunno why. keke. Reno Update: Took weeks choosing the colors. i only knew i wanted purple/black theme for the house cos i am a purple freak. my wife wanted lolipop too but seems very hard to couple it up with other colors as it was a very 'loud' color so she gave in to my purple fetish. But painting black wall confirm let the elders 'nag' de also too much purple will be overkill. thus requested my ID to paint the main purple first and lemme test out how it'll look with neutral colors like grey so i can extend the colors to my mostly black furnitures without too much of a contrast and still get the purple/black theme. The urban grey turned out really well but cannot see well from pic. highly encourage the color for ppl whom dont wanna leave things white. quite monotonous currently with all purple and grey. but once the carpentry/furnitures are in,it'll turn out well i guess. Colors used are: TV wall: Harmonious Purple(ICI,wash&wear) Living room/Balcony: Urban Grey(Nippon, odourless) Ceilings/Lboxes: Spring Blush(ICI,light&space) Rooms wall:Glacier Grey(ICI,dulux-all) Room Highlight wall: Mysterious(ICI,dulux-all) Door frames: Suede(ICI,gloss finish) Gate: Executive grey(ICI gloss finish) Pipes: kiv (weathershield) ID nearly fainted when he realised i used all the high grade colors say i really know how to "choose" hor. haha. he ownself asked me choose de,5 colors not inclusive of doors/pipes ma of course i choose the best lo.keke.. think he didnt know Light&space is same price like dulux-all ba. Total cost of painting is 1.1k. its really a steal.
  18. ya,that bracket is extra de. brought the whole set including mixer, pipes, bowl etc for about $300. quite flimsy.wobbles abit when u pushed it but quite sturdy ba,dont think will fall down so soon.keke.
  19. actually hor, end of the day he gave you a very good lesson also la. shown you how ugly can human being get. I once kena jialat from someone whom i thought was ok too when i first stepped into business...really out to play you to death while being your best frd. nearly feel out with my family cos he keep spinning tales with my dad. nvr had i imagine someone so elderly and nice looking like him can be so scheming. i tell you,he sure beat the contractor hands down.at least your contractor is delivering his blow upfront. i kena till blood nearly dry liao still dunno & smiling at him lo..back full of stabs still dunno.felt so bad to cost my landlord whom own the shophouse to lose a small plot of land beside it too.heng he too rich to even care and gave me lotsa advice in life and business. Looking back, must also thank the lame prick for making me 'grow' putting me through all the nightmare. priceless. so maybe can look on the brighter side too la. pretty sure the lesson with him will serve you well next time de. forget bout that prick and enjoy your AD/honeymoon le. got feeling your MIL will thicken the angbao abit after knowing your situation de.
  20. Actually hor, find it quite strange why need to spray paint the wrought iron. most of the wrought iron i saw comes raw and looks quite ok,did he suggest he can spray any color you wanted thus leading you on to spray it? bottomline is you guys paid 80%? before the work even start, he should had done a better job instead as you are recommended by others and so steady to pay upfront. you're so easy going & trusting and yet he took advantage providing such quality of works/material. if he still so gungho about his "quality",issue a no-condition warranty on all his items for 2yrs at least lo. industrial practice ma,black & white a must! if he dont want. suan him no standard lo,ppl can he cannot.how to belive his stuff are new+good and pay him!haha. consult a lawyer for sure to see what are your options, the money you spend there die die must get back de.Throw into drain oso dont let him earn! if lawyer says it ok to not pay him first and your chances are high. proceed with your AD/honeymoon. come back refreshed and ready to enjoy your turn of fun.spend $ get lawyer fight better then blood vessel brust talking to him. might get back a lump sum if win too. talk with your hubby first la.see if he wanna fight it out bo. you 2 must see eye2eye and combine power ma. first battle as husband and wife leh.quite bonding actually. win/lose nvm. bonding priceless.
  21. wah the close up of the wrought iron show alot of rust under the paint wor. it really looks like something he had dismantled long ago from his previous projects, owner prolly changed it due to rust and he respray and forcefully installed it for you. that would explain why you end up with a design you didnt choose and all the rust under the spray paint. might not last long wor. gotta really sand it to remove the rust, primer and spray multiple coats. wah, now my blood also boiling when i think of how he try to cheat his way through your project. omg..the ss pipe really priceless. cannot align also bend below ma. bend ontop so stange looking. dont need worry for his son la. just post the shop name to save other ppl from falling into the same nightmare like you. 'father debt, son pay' also correct de. since he say after paying 1-2 yrs he'll still take care, make it black and white he warranty everything condition to last 2yrs. from leaking pipes to rusty windows. pretty sure the wrought iron stuffs will have problems later de.
  22. i'll suggest the same thing like i suggested to another RT user whom is facing contractor problems too but with more drama~ Appear at contractors office in sweaty soccer attire+muddy boots and sloooooowy write the final check while 'nua-ing' and 'goo-ing' on their nicest chair full of sweat smell.dont forget to walk around too ah. they very likey to lose their patience judging by your conflicts with them now & lash out at you. make a commotion.call all the villagers nearby or the cops whatever. haha. all the ppl/shops there sure throw funny looks at them de,i belive that area has alot of there competitors shops on the same level . we paisey 1 time, they paisey forever there and become laughing stock for competitors, this they sure buay tahan one.lolx. remember to act as victimized as possible while they throw you out of the shop or lash out at you ah.cos ppl wouldnt know the story behind & nightmare you been through. cant say act also as you really are the victim ma,so conscience is clear. just a stupid idea la. but you should do it if u can.haha.sure be fun to see his face red & showing his true colors infront of everyone for all he put you through.
  23. no wonder he can so yaya with you all, really kudos to your 'ren' power. should really just list his face/company name out.he mentioned no discount too offset GST. go check if he got reg for GST bo. these rouge guys usually got alot of dirty linens to dig up one. check if he hdb reg,can complain too. they will review his liscense next time and gahmen will check all his accounts and taxes.. it depends on if you wanna play him back jialat jialat bo,alot of ways de. i see you keep posting nightmares heartpain for you also. he stained your whole project with his lousy work and attitude.first time see t-blog full of nightmares. since your MIL dont know him personally dont need give face la. must make him stress abit too.
  24. waha, like how you 'siam' the pipings for your rain shower. can also consider box it up wor, with those metal panels below then can add some lights in it.can dip in the nice tub under the warmth of the lightings bouncing of the walls. so smoothing. btw, u mentioned you paid 24k to the kuku guy? you mean you one shot full payment before his work started?
  25. went first day with cash and ready to self carry if can.haha, quoted $2499+agent gift+$300 voucher+dvd.delivery charge me $30 some more! lousy offer. i was quoted only $2380 @ KT,all same except $200 voucher, if $2499 but more voucher, same like u buy the voucher too. so went back to KT cos i really cannot deal with crowds sia, left sitex in 30mins but still already abit sian after being pushed and shooved around liao. my wife says i have tai-tai syndrome. these IT show ppl oso dunno doing so many stunt for what. rent the place 4 days. wait till last day drastically drop price might as well open 1 day enough.not fair to those that brought earlier too,end up they lose 3 days of customers the next time when ppl learn of their style over time. wanna attract crowd also make more sense to drop price on day 01 and get 3 days of customers ma.keke. btw. got one guy managed to get his A650 at only about $600 after offsetting the values of his freebies leh. so heng sia.
